I'm not sure how the Lloyds Bank Amex's work - do you call Lloyds or Amex for customer service?

I can tap away endlessly it seems using the physical contactless in most places but Amex via Apple Pay is a bit more picky!

Shell is a winner with Apple Pay, never have any issues. Now if only we could have a digital Shell Card!

If only!

Interesting bit of information, the receipt said 'no card holder verification'. The reader was a Verifone which seems to work well with Amex Apple Pay.

To add my AmEx issued card by Lloyds the 0345 directs me to call Lloyds rather than AmEx.

But no I find it very hit and miss in store with the physical card so use my Tesco Bank credit card instead for Apple Pay.

Tried contactless on my AmEx this morning despite my last few transactions being Chip & PIN and had to insert my card to pay.

I shall share one of my latest Apple Pay stories then to cut the silence!

I was in Superdry the other day, bought something for £9 (via Apple Pay). Then realised the price was wrong and should have been £5. The assistant was going to refund the difference so I asked if I could do this via Apple Pay (I knew it could be done but I've never personally done it since I've been told to present my actual card every other time I've done a refund somewhere else). They said the same thing that I'd need to put my actual card in but the contactless symbol still showed up so I tried Apple Pay anyway and it worked (and the assistant was surprised/confused)! Got the difference refunded back to my account. So that was my first refund Apple Pay experience.

I'm not sure what I'm more surprised over-the fact your refund worked via Apple Pay or you managed to find something cheap in Super Dry

It is a shame that Apple Pay is still such a mess after all this time. There are still just a few shops that accept it for transactions over £30, even ones that used (Yes I mean you Waitrose) have then stopped. And there is no way of telling before you try to pay. Staff education on Apple Pay in shops is shocking, as shown in previous posts where refunds are not given in the correct way (via Apple Pay) and at M&S I have to tell the cashiers a lot of the time that Apple Pay works for higher amounts.

I thought Waitrose had now got their "sh*t" together?! Speaking with them back in August they confirmed that they are now accepting over £30 in all of their stores - I raised with them originally because their receipts we're still saying 'Card holder not verified'.

If this is not the case I'll get back on at them lol..

They also confirmed that John Lewis are aiming to rollout contactless by the end of this year.

Agree with staff training however; I personally find it great when I have to educate staff on this. I'm finding in fast food restaurants & other places staff are getting quite good; automatically turning on the card terminal when getting my phone out or watch. Also agree on the refunds front however, not experienced myself - but if I did I would refuse to present my card & educate them on how to refund via Apple Pay lol.

Anyway; in other news - I've managed to get a local Bakery chain to rollout contactless, remove the silly minimum card spend limit, enable high value transactions & implement Apple/Android Pay signage! Think they have about 6/7 stores.

The guys so happy that I fed back info; especially about high value transactions (so he could sort with epos company) that he's sending me vouchers as a thank you.

Sorting out Apple Pay one step at a time :) haha

I had asked Waitrose (November last year) via Twitter and got the following reply: Waitrose have limited Apple Pay to £30 in line with contactless card payments. This will be reviewed again, thanks.

Isn't it about time Apple kicked their arses and told them that they can only promote that they support apple pay if they are properly setup to accept it £30+?

Yep sent them another tweet; they have now confirmed that I was previously advised wrong information.

I have sent an email to Mike Sackman (IT Director) at Waitrose; sounds like he is in charge of EPOS - would recommend anyone that cares about the rollout of Apple Pay to also do the same - email format is firstname.surname@waitrose.co.uk

Why would they revert something like that anyway? It makes no sense.

What I can't understand is the reluctance to accept Apple Pay >£30 in many places still.

Okay so nothing is 100% secure but surely by using TouchID to authorise the payment is 'safer' i.e. less chance of a chargeback for a fraudulent purchase?

Not sure what it's like for your areas but I've been to two local Sainsbury's stores and both now accept "contactless and mobile payments". Haven't tried >£30 though but it sounds promising.

Ah, thanks for the heads up.
Good to know it is being rolled out. Though the large Sainsbury's here in Bath most certainly isn't yet contactless (as of a week ago).

Edit: Just did a Google search, and it seems as if the Sainsbury's Local shops are first to get the "new" tech. Larger shops will roll out later. Heh, ho.

Both stores I went to were quite large stores. Not local as in small. Sorry for the confusion.

I've not visited the Sainsbury's in Chaddesden, Derby since last month but on my recent trip there they still hadn't got contactless payments.

Hopefully they'll roll out >£30. I've used PayQwiq for whenever my food shopping has been greater than £30 in Tesco; would be nice to see support for Apple Pay for higher amounts-however at least I know I can leave my wallet at home now.

Has anyone who has AmEx set up on Apple Pay had trouble using it in Tesco recently?

Tried my physical card Friday morning via contactless and had to enter my PIN; tried it earlier in the week (despite the purchase before that being C&P) and it failed then too.

How did you get them to remove the minimum card spend? By complaining to the bakery or complaining to Visa/MasterCard? I usually just refuse to shop at places with them.

It's never worked for me at Asda and Tesco.

Went into the Sainsbury's at Kingsway, Derby this morning. Not a local one, a full sized supermarket and they now take contactless payment. Did not try it because the bill was more than £30.
I will try it next week.
