Slightly o/t but contactless wasn’t working in the Arndale Luton Tesco today. I had to pay for my lunch stuff by entering a PIN number... Genuinely nearly didn’t insert my card correctly...!

Was this a manned checkout or self service? The store I’m in has one self service machine that randomly loses contactless payments every so often.

Self service, the whole bank of them failed (I’m in there so regularly I chat to the lady who supervises the area).

Must admit I’ve started to use Pay+ more often as it scans my Colleague Clubcard at the same time; just hope Tesco enable Apple Pay for Clubcard and raise the limit so I can use that instead.

I have a feeling they may be hesitant to do so since it removes a lot of the use from that app.

This is a classic case of ‘we’ll make our own payment service’ that never goes well - didn’t think Tesco would have made the mistake!

I think with more and more places accepting mobile payments over £30 they'll have to implement it eventually. I was in a restaurant in Leeds the other day and used Apple Pay for £35.
The only thing that may take a while (or may not even happen) is the loyalty cards in wallet.

I had trouble paying for an iPhone 7 the other day in the Apple store app with Apple Pay. Tried it several times but it would not have it. I ended up using the same card to pay by the ’ other ‘ method in the app. It was a Lloyds MasterCard, I read some where that Lloyds have a £100 limit on Apple Pay. Any body else heard this. I had used the same card with Apple Pay in the morning to buy a wireless charger through the app for £50 with no problems.

From the Lloyds Bank website:

To protect you from fraud, we may restrict the value or number of payments you can make using Apple Pay, so please make sure you carry your debit and credit cards with you just in case. Some retailers will also limit individual payments to £30.

So no mention of a £100 limit but *may* be why you were unable to use Apple Pay (weird you could use your MasterCard via another method, though).

I personally think this sort of move from the banks should be against Apple Pay terms.

If people aren’t confident to ditch their wallets fully then AP cannot be as successful as it should be!

Anyone got an iPhone X and used it with Apple Pay? How does FaceID compare to TouchID for it?

Yes I tried it on Friday.

Double press the side button, quick look to confirm Face ID is happy, then move it over to the terminal.

It feels better as you hold the phone in a much more natural position vs Touch ID.

Further to my earlier post about using Apple Pay on the on line Apple store, every time I try it comes up incorrect billing address. I now cannot use either my CC or debit card. I can use both cards in the shops ( Sainsbury’s or Tesco ) on Apple Pay just not in the online Apple store. Any body else having this trouble?

Heads up for anyone that was making use of Santander’s 5% Apple Pay cashback, mine has been paid today.
Nice £76 cashback. I’ll be adding that to the iPhone X pot, if I ever manage to get a hold of one (or two, my wife would not be happy if I got mine first).

Speaking of iPhone X, I was speaking to an Apple Store rep who had one and was asking how Apple Pay worked. As well as the standard double press of the side button he said it will also still pop up when held near a reader just like with Touch ID. He said it was still quick to register his face at a slight angle.

I've had this trouble in the past when my iPhone 7 Plus refused to save my billing address (despite selecting it in the relevant settings) but seems to have rectified itself in iOS 11 on my 8 Plus.

In terms of transaction limits and Apple Pay one bank who would appear not to have such problems may well be Santander; when I purchased my Series 0 Apple Watch a couple of years ago I had no issues in-store so hopefully the same applies to any apps/websites which make use of the service.

True! I had a transaction of over £2000 in the Apple Store one time and Apple Pay worked a charm with my Santander card. I've never had any issues. The one time I use a Halifax card for an iPhone purchase last year and it was declined. Apple rep said it happens a lot with Lloyds and Halifax cards, had to use Chip and PIN like a caveman. Like @LewisChapman said earlier, it defeats the point of Apple Pay when banks start imposing limits.

I bought an MacBook Pro last year with Apple Pay. It worked a treat. Now the online Apple store will not accept any of my cards. I have tried removing the and putting them back, still no go. I tried deleting the billing address and reentering it but it still says wrong address. Not sure what to try now.

Apply pay worked fine on my 6splus. But will not work on my 8 plus

Sorry if you've already mentioned this but are the cards all with the same bank? If so and you've tried re-adding and everything I'd maybe suggest getting in touch with them? Or the only other things I can think of is to sign out of iCloud and sign back in, or even... resetting the phone.

The cards are from the same bank. I am not inclined to re-install the soft ware, it is not that much of a problem. Like I say it only happens on the Apple store, I can live with that. Just bloody annoyed that I can not work it out.

Oh right, that's really odd. Have you tried reinstalling the app?
I've had issues with the address field on Apple Pay before, I had to edit the address to match exactly what my address is with my bank and then it worked. It can be quite fiddly but it eventually worked. Hope that helps.

Quick update, I just tried an old NatWest debit card that I do not use much, it worked. So it must be something to do with Lloyds, I will give them a bell. Thanks for your help though.

Out of interest if you attempt to use Apple Pay in Safari for iOS do you have the same problem?

Given that it’s just over two years since the HBOS group enabled Apple Pay on their qualifying cards you’d think they’d be slightly more lax in limits!

No it will not work in Safari in the Apple store either.
But I just payed £50 into my Starling account with Apple Pay using the same card that was rejected by the Apple store

Been to a couple of Sainsbury’s petrol stations recently and both now have contactless enabled. Hopefully it’s the same everywhere.

On a side note I’m liking Apple Pay implementation on the X. The improved speakers also make the transaction completion sound a lot more satisfying than it was on 6s plus.
