Been reading through this thread a bit and tried to do some research, couldn't find anything though. Does anyone know if any UK banks already support Apple Pay for cash withdrawals? I saw some Apple Pay cash machines in the US and thought it was quite a good idea!

I currently mostly live in Germany and I'm not in the UK all too often at the moment so I'm not up to date on what the banks offer and what they don't.

As far as I am aware; not at the moment... Barclays UK are maybe the closest to supporting, they have started to roll out Android NFC cash withdrawals. However this is limited; ie requires a separate Barclays app (possible working as a cash account not sure), only works in certain branch ATM’s etc.

I would presume the ATM’s would need to be able to link the unique device account number to that person’s bank account in order to work fluidly; ie. be able to verify user, pull account balance etc.

Not sure how the US ones work; however 100% for it and have emailed main U.K. banks in the past about this.

Lots of banks in China support contactless (Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, etc) ATM withdrawals. There's got to be a reason it hasn't gained traction outside of China. I'm going to hazard a guess that not just the banks, but Visa/Mastercard systems will need a big upgrade to make this work.

So the downside of using Apple Pay is that I’ve actually lost one of my cards but haven’t realised for almost 2 weeks because I’ve been using Apple Pay all the time and haven’t had to use my card.

Fair point, but I have lost or had to recover a debit or credit card from a shop on 2 occasions due to leaving it in a card machine (Tesco) or dropping it after using it on the bus in London. ApplePay reduces that risk as I go into my wallet far less.

When I left my card at Tesco a few months ago, I was pretty sure it was still safe as I knew where I’d last had it & there had been no transaction notifications since. That meant I could risk not reporting it lost/stolen

I think I left it in Aldi last week Monday as that’s the last time I used it. However I cancelled it as it’s been almost two weeks now and I was panicky about someone using it although I’ve not seen any transactions on my account that I don’t recognise. I’ve never lost a card before, had my purse stolen about 15 years ago but never lost a card. I think because I’m not really using it in the shops regularly I’ve gotten absent minded about making sure I put it back in my purse.

Same has happened to me this week! Absolutely no idea what's happened to my card, it could well turn up in my house somewhere but I've cancelled it anyway - when I rang up I also asked for the replacement to be non-contactless as I never use it, and if I manage to lose that one too then my money will be a bit more secure.

Just waiting on Monzo to finally support apple pay now, I'd like it to be my primary card but AP is just too convenient.

Non contactless cards can cause issues with Apple Pay so you could find that it won't work.

We have a non contactless Amex and it often doesn't work. Using the actual card with chip and pin will work fine though.

That’s more likely because it’s Amex.

I’ve had no problems using non-contactless cards with ApplePay.

Aye I may be wrong but IIRC my previous card (same account) wasn't contactless and was the first one I used AP with, no problems. We'll see though.

Misplacing a card is easily done!

Don't some banks allow you to carry on using Apple Pay whilst you're waiting for a replacement?
I can anecdotally confirm that Lloyds is not such a bank :(

I gave up adding Lloyds to my iPhone a long time ago.

Despite my AmEx (with them) being used on my iTunes account I still have to call to get it added.

I thought the card had to be contactless to work with Apple Pay?

I thought the same at first but I’ve been using my non-contactless M&S credit card with ApplePay for a year or two now. Problem is I can only use it online and in ApplePay because I use the PIN so little, I keep forgetting it!

All my cards have the same pin, makes it much easier ;)
