Can I just clarify something : When paying with something via Apple Pay, do we actually have to open the Passbook app and select the card (I'm with Santander) or do we just hold our phones over the reader, and the correct card shows up?!?!

About to go to London today to test this but as far as I am aware, you only need to hover the phone over the reader with your finger on the scanner and it will auto-activate the display and make the payment. That's if you want to pay with the default card.
Hold the phone near the reader/machine and your passbook will automatically open. All you then need to do is put your finger on the touch-id on your phone.
Completed my first succesful transaction this morning at a BP petrol station
Well, I had my doubts but I am currently sitting on a London bus I paid for with Apple Pay.
The ticket inspector also came onboard (what are my chances) and it passed the check. Just ask to use his NFC reader. He had no idea what Apple Pay was. He was also not impressed.
Seemed to take a little while to wake up on the reader, but it worked well.
Added my Amex and tried it on the Tube. Worked a charm. There WAS a noticeable delay compared to Oyster when tapping out at the destination ticket gates, 2 or 3 extra seconds.
There doesn't seem to be a way to associate your DAN with TFL online accounts at present to deal with refund applications, journey history, etc.
Strangely I got a push notification from Passbook telling me that my Barclaycard is now ready to be added to Apple Pay? Haven't tried to add it yet though, assume it was just an erroneous push notification as others have said Barclays are not working.
You don't - you've been able to pay for TFL services with a contactless card for a couple of years now, so Apple Pay is an extension of the card. This unfortunately means any discounts loaded on your Oyster card won't work as they're separate.....thanks for confirming guys
How did you guys add your Oyster cards?
iPhone over reader then it will ask for fingerprint, but you it will only use the default card you have selected. Can I just clarify something : When paying with something via Apple Pay, do we actually have to open the Passbook app and select the card (I'm with Santander) or do we just hold our phones over the reader, and the correct card shows up?!?!
What's bad about this is that HSBC are now saying that they never planned to launch with Apple Pay, contradicting all their earlier published material & tweets (which have now been deleted).BBC, Telegraph etc reporting HSBC cock up.
Wish they'd give us a reason/tighter timescale. No hard feelings if they held their hands up and said they were working to sort it ASAP. Bit of a shame though if they're just quietly delaying it until month's end for no reason.

I've just spoken to someone at Apple and she tried the same trick "HSBC have never been listed as supporting Apple Pay" - showed her the screenshots to which she said "I'm sorry for any confusion"What's bad about this is that HSBC are now saying that they never planned to launch with Apple Pay, contradicting all their earlier published material & tweets (which have now been deleted).
This "deny we ever said it" attitude is basically lying to their customers, which is the reason I will be moving my accounts away from them today.
@HSBC_UK: @mac_evangelist We don't have a specific date to share. However we are working hard to make it available asap. ^SD"ASAP" makes you look like a fool. You are working hard to do as soon as possible what others have already done. You cannot even give a timescale, presumably because you were unable to adhere to the last one.
HSBC have arsed this whole thing up right from the start. If you accidentally leaked the date you think you'd to your best not to be left in the dust when that date comes around. Embarrassing.
I think this about the last straw with HSBC for me, never been impressed with them particularly. Not sure if I can be bothered to change all my accounts over though. Very disappointed
HSBC & First direct were confirmed as participating banks thoughI assume the reason FirstDirect and M&S Bank are not ready yet is because its all run by HSBC behind the scenes? It's a shame, and if it wasn't for my Amex working I would prob look at switching
