Can I just clarify something : When paying with something via Apple Pay, do we actually have to open the Passbook app and select the card (I'm with Santander) or do we just hold our phones over the reader, and the correct card shows up?!?!

BBC, Telegraph etc reporting HSBC cock up.

Wish they'd give us a reason/tighter timescale. No hard feelings if they held their hands up and said they were working to sort it ASAP. Bit of a shame though if they're just quietly delaying it until month's end for no reason.

Hello again fellow Croydonian (well I go to Uni in Norwich but yeah).

About to go to London today to test this but as far as I am aware, you only need to hover the phone over the reader with your finger on the scanner and it will auto-activate the display and make the payment. That's if you want to pay with the default card.

Hold the phone near the reader/machine and your passbook will automatically open. All you then need to do is put your finger on the touch-id on your phone.

Completed my first succesful transaction this morning at a BP petrol station

....thanks for confirming guys ;)

Well, I had my doubts but I am currently sitting on a London bus I paid for with Apple Pay.

The ticket inspector also came onboard (what are my chances) and it passed the check. Just ask to use his NFC reader. He had no idea what Apple Pay was. He was also not impressed.

Seemed to take a little while to wake up on the reader, but it worked well.

Added my Amex and tried it on the Tube. Worked a charm. There WAS a noticeable delay compared to Oyster when tapping out at the destination ticket gates, 2 or 3 extra seconds.

There doesn't seem to be a way to associate your DAN with TFL online accounts at present to deal with refund applications, journey history, etc.

Strangely I got a push notification from Passbook telling me that my Barclaycard is now ready to be added to Apple Pay? Haven't tried to add it yet though, assume it was just an erroneous push notification as others have said Barclays are not working.

How did you guys add your Oyster cards?

Found this in the Metro, a list of places you can go over the £20 cap apparently:

You don't - you've been able to pay for TFL services with a contactless card for a couple of years now, so Apple Pay is an extension of the card. This unfortunately means any discounts loaded on your Oyster card won't work as they're separate.

iPhone over reader then it will ask for fingerprint, but you it will only use the default card you have selected.

What's bad about this is that HSBC are now saying that they never planned to launch with Apple Pay, contradicting all their earlier published material & tweets (which have now been deleted).

This "deny we ever said it" attitude is basically lying to their customers, which is the reason I will be moving my accounts away from them today.

Thought I'd share my experience, got off tram a few stops earlier just to try in McDonalds, Apple Pay decal in the window, when it came to payment the lady asked how I was paying, I told her Apple Pay, she said "oh, we haven't got that yet, I think we need new machines" I said "oh, I thought it worked with the existing machine" she said well we can try it, popped phone over reader and up pops my natwest card, touch to pay (I did also notice a pay with passcode option that I didn't know about), received an instant notification of my transaction.... She was amazed, calling other staff members to tell them that Apple pay did work.....

Then I nipped into Starbucks, no window decal but still worked fine....

...oh yea, good point! I guess I will have to use up my credit on my Oyster FIRST, before I start using my contactless bank card!!

I nipped in to Morrisons to grab some Milk and coffee for the office this morning and Apple Pay worked like a charm using the self service check outs!

I'm impressed how smooth and seamless it all was.

I've just spoken to someone at Apple and she tried the same trick "HSBC have never been listed as supporting Apple Pay" - showed her the screenshots to which she said "I'm sorry for any confusion"

Continued to deny any withdrawals/anything happening last minute and agreed with me that it would likely be a "long delay" and not something that could be "fixed" in the coming days.

Very odd. Very unlike Apple! Usually they're very helpful and informative.

@HSBC_UK: @mac_evangelist We don't have a specific date to share. However we are working hard to make it available asap. ^SD
"ASAP" makes you look like a fool. You are working hard to do as soon as possible what others have already done. You cannot even give a timescale, presumably because you were unable to adhere to the last one.

HSBC have arsed this whole thing up right from the start. If you accidentally leaked the date you think you'd to your best not to be left in the dust when that date comes around. Embarrassing.

I think this about the last straw with HSBC for me, never been impressed with them particularly. Not sure if I can be bothered to change all my accounts over though. Very disappointed

I assume the reason FirstDirect and M&S Bank are not ready yet is because its all run by HSBC behind the scenes? It's a shame, and if it wasn't for my Amex working I would prob look at switching

Changing bank accounts is very straight forward these days. Your new bank does all the work for you.

Changed from Barclays to Nationwide and all I did was complete a form and nationwide did all the hard work for me.
