Whatever happened to staff training?Just went into M&S in Covent Garden, the payment terminals now have an Apple Pay logo on the screen. You still have to press pay by card, i went to put my phone to the reader and an employee came over and said "I don't think we do that here" my fingerprint was read, he said "oh ok it does".
Proceeded to pret outside my office, bought a diet coke, double press the button on my watch, placed it on the reader and it went through instantly. Couldn't be more impressed.
Also, looks like i left HSBC at just the right time.
Got through to Natwest after ~40 mins of being on hold, after some rather obscure security questions I'm done! Went straight down to the canteen and bought a bacon butty with my watch. Great stuff!
I switched my region and used my Nationwide card on a London Bus at about 2:30 this morning. It seemed a bit slow to register but that might have been me.
In recent transactions its showing up with just the location and time- no cost? Is that because TfL don't charge me until tomorrow?
Indeed, I don't mind it was just a bit unexpected! There were things like "how old is Nigel [my surname]?" and a list of options - I don't know anyone in my family called Nigel so the correct answer was none of the above! Same happened with a list of counties I have never lived in.If you don't have the card reader security enabled on your account, they ask you multiple choice questions based from history via your experion credit report. I was asked about family members, previous address and bank accounts i had opened.
I don't mind going through that if it means i don't have to put my card in that reader if i want to log into online banking.

May I ask what's special about £19.92?My Apple Pay experience this morning!
Conveniently needed fuel! Lucky I have a BP Garage nearby with an attached Subway. Two birds in one stone! Took my Mac with me as the plan was to get some work done with my Subway breakfast.
BP - Clueless! Worked a charm but the expressions I got from the two members of staff at the counter when I wanted to pay using Apple Pay were just priceless! Obviously they didn't get the memo.. Never had so much fun paying for fuel though. Also worth noting that I filled up £19.92 haha (see screenshot)!
Subway - Different story here. Most Subways have contactless already, and this particular member of staff was pretty clued up on Apple Pay (bravo Subway) but we quickly realised that this Subway has not had its contactless readers installed yet! Had to pay by cash which was far less exciting.
Word of mouth I think will spread the word very quickly!
Those quite often crash with normal contactless cards (no idea why), don't worry!Mixed success this morning. Worked great in Starbucks and Co-Op, but managed to crash a self service card reader in Boots. No one around so sheepishly paid by cash
It actually took me 36 minutes and 30 seconds to get through!Damn, I gave up after 35 because I arrived at work - will try again in a bit.
TfL said it would be a couple of weeks before Apple Pay is available in their online accounts I think.Added my Amex and tried it on the Tube. Worked a charm. There WAS a noticeable delay compared to Oyster when tapping out at the destination ticket gates, 2 or 3 extra seconds.
There doesn't seem to be a way to associate your DAN with TFL online accounts at present to deal with refund applications, journey history, etc.
Strangely I got a push notification from Passbook telling me that my Barclaycard is now ready to be added to Apple Pay? Haven't tried to add it yet though, assume it was just an erroneous push notification as others have said Barclays are not working.
They had loads of the standard questions; birthday, card numbers, customer reference number, then loads of incredibly random questions that I can honestly say have never come up in a security check before. They said they had asked Experian for a check of my other accounts, and they gave me dates I opened accounts at other banks, and asked which banks they were with, then they gave me people's names, and I had to say whether I'd ever shared a house with them!?Out of interest, what information do they need from you to verify?
Many of those are only having it enabled when the £30 contactless update is applied to the card terminals this September.Found this in the Metro, a list of places you can go over the £20 cap apparently:
Under £20!May I ask what's special about £19.92?
Oh, nothing in particular about that specific price. Just needed to ensure that I didn't go over the £20.00 limit so I could use Apple Pay!May I ask what's special about £19.92?
Indeed I finally got through and had some similarly obscure questions, see my post above! Those quite often crash with normal contactless cards (no idea why), don't worry!

Under £20!
How do you know this? It's annoying that there's no clear information going around about the limits. I think Boots is the only one 100% confirmed today. Many of those are only having it enabled when the £30 contactless update is applied to the card terminals this September.
From The Guardian comments section:
'I'm looking forward to this. Soon after it was launched a woman in the queue at my local tax avoiding coffee shop cracked the screen of her Apple Watch when she ill advisedly ****ted it against a payment terminal. Hopefully we'll get to see more silly behaviour with this!'
That's what the banks have said. The higher limit will launch in one go in September / October I believe. How do you know this? It's annoying that there's no clear information going around about the limits. I think Boots is the only one 100% confirmed today.
Is there a limit to how much I can spend using Apple Pay in store?
There will initially be a £20 spend limit using Apple Pay at Boots. However, this will increase in the coming months.
That is fantastic. From The Guardian comments section:

I was led to believe that the £30 increase is separate from places updating their terminals to remove the cap entirely. That's what the banks have said. The higher limit will launch in one go in September / October I believe.
Even Boots doesn't support the higher limit today. http://www.boots.com/en/_1729469
