Must be an issue with the way some readers / till systems work? I know that the self service Tesco tills near me, which support Contactless, require you to EITHER choose Card or Contactless as your payment method, which I find bizarre.
Yeah I noticed that and the stupid thing is if you select Card Payment, the contactless symbol still appears on the reader but if you try and use it then it won't work as you didn't select contactless. They could have at least got it to not show the contactless symbol if you select card payment.

Just bought a coffee at Greggs this morning. Managed to get my Santander card on this morning with the US region trick.
All went through fine though the guy behind the counter was really confused. He thought I was trying to pay with a loyalty card app and was surprised that it went through. I think he thought I had defrauded them... It'll get better though as more people use it.
I had same problem at greggs. They tried to get me to scan my phone lol

Guys, with using Apple Pay on the Tube (London Underground), do you need to do some kind of online registration on the tfl website? i logged in with my oyster and could see the option to add a contactless card but nothing about Apple Pay?

No need, just go ahead and use it.

......surely it can't be as simple as swiping your iPhone instead of your Oyster, at the barrier? Or can it?!
Yes it is that easy! Contact less cards have 'just worked' with Oyster for a while now, you don't have to add it to your account unless you want journey history info with it. By extension, Apple Pay also 'just works' :D

I work for the Co-op so know how their contactless payments work. There's no separate button for the cashier to press, cashier presses either "Cash" or "EFT" - when you press EFT the customer either inserts their card for chip and pin or use contactless

How does it work? Does it "clock you in" at one station and then when you "clock out" at the other station it charges you the appropriate amount?

If so I wonder how you could know how much up front you would be paying?

Works exactly as you described. They charge you 10p initially and then calculate the cost and charge you at the end of the day for all your travel.

Unfortunately you don't know up front how much you pay, and you don't even know until the end of the day. The expectation is that the customer would know the daily / weekly travel caps. Unlike Oyster, which shows you on the ticket barrier the cost of the trip, Contactless and Apple Pay does not show this information.

Best reaction from the girl on the till at Aldi. Didn't need anything but had to go try my watch.

She scanned everything and asked "cash or card" , I said card then just put my watch on the reader. She was all "what the hell! How did you do that?" She then shouted across all the tills "he's just paid with his watch!"

Love it

So guys I just did the nerdiest thing of all:
I bought an Apple Watch using Apple Pay on my phone in the Apple Store. Yes, over £200 on Apple Pay (I had a gift card).

'Wow, look at that' was the specialist's reaction.
With the app I'm guessing?

I'm pretty sure that contactless payments work just fine already in the UK. The only advantage to having Apple pay is that you don't have to bring your wallet, but then you do just in case the specific terminal you're headed towards isn't 'just working' etc.

I have used it twice now. Once in morrisons to test it out and to unleash my inner geek. Worked great

Then again in Spar after I forgot something in morrisons.

In Spar I had the awkwardness of "er card payment please" that a few other have had while she looked at me like I was some crazy man with my phone at the card reader.

I used Apple pay today at nandos and on the bus. But the bus still hasn't come up, does TFL not show the payment or something?

Arrrrggghhh! The only reason I switched to First Direct recently is because they were listed as a launch bank!!

Because there is a weekly cap on the transactions they don't tell your card provider how much they want to take until the end of the week. So Apple Pay doesn't know how much the transaction was for.
Oh I see! Thanks for telling me, does that mean they'll take the money out at the end of the week?
