Guys, with using Apple Pay on the Tube (London Underground), do you need to do some kind of online registration on the tfl website? i logged in with my oyster and could see the option to add a contactless card but nothing about Apple Pay?

No need, just go ahead and use it.

So if I travelled to London all I would need to do is walk into the tube and any time I get to a gate point I place my iPhone on the scanner part and the gate will open and I'll be charged?

no asking for tickets, no faffing around with anything?

Is there a way to clear the last transaction message showing beneath the card? I'm sure I managed it earlier but now I can't seem to do it

So just to avoid potential awkwardness at my corner shop, does Apple Pay work anywhere that accepts contactless payments?

just ask them if they accept it, tell them it came out today, say you'd like to try. There will be no embarrassment if you're upfront about it.

Yes however, sometimes the payments fail still. Happened to me earlier on the bus. The first bus i took failed. (I then just used a contactless card), whereas the next two times i used apple pay which were in a restaurant and then another bus went through without a problem.

used it twice today, once in boots and once in costa. Worked perfect on both occasions and the man in costa seemed very excited and amazed by it all. you do get a funny look when you say pay by card/contactless and you only have your phone out

The exact words i got this morning at M&S while the Apple pay logo was staring directly at him!
I used my watch M&S at Kingsway, Derby this morning. The girl on the till was fascinated, I even had to show her my watch. Luckily I had made sure I got a till were nobody else was queueing, just in case it did not work, however it worked like a dream.

If she was from Derby she was probably amazed at the fact you had 2 shoes on that matched!!!

(I joke... I'm a Chad lad myself)

whats everyone doing with the privacy setting/location services in passbook/apple pay? are you allowing apple to know your location everytime you use apple pay and does it work fine with location switched off? (attached file/screen shot)

Also what about the terms and conditions of using apple pay in apps, did you know when you pay its decrypted at apples end, then re encrypted and sent on to the recipient. Whats wrong with that? nothing much, just interception and I wondered if it were a spy agency requirement. Maybe someone can answer :)

So guys I just did the nerdiest thing of all:
I bought an Apple Watch using Apple Pay on my phone in the Apple Store. Yes, over £200 on Apple Pay (I had a gift card).

'Wow, look at that' was the specialist's reaction.
there was someone doing exactly that next to me earlier while I bought a new strap for my watch, using my watch! we and the staff were all so impressed it was rather sad.

It immediately appeared to work, and showed the amount in the 'Last Transaction' section, with the time 'Just Now'. However, the checkout lady said it hadn't worked - she was very pleasant and patient about it, and asked a senior to come over.

This is worrying because a few people have mentioned having to do this and there doesn't seem to be a recent transactions list for watch transactions.

Anyone tried getting cashback (notes from the till / not discount paid back later) with Apple pay yet?

It gets very complicated as its all based on the method of travel - peak and off peak. The idea is you shouldn't end up paying more than a daily or weekly travel ticket when using Oyster pay as you go: https://tfl.gov.uk/fares-and-payments/oyster/using-oyster/price-capping

Weekly capping only applies to contactless payments and Apple Pay at the moment, not Oyster cards.

So £8.80 is the most I'd be charged for a day messing around in London if I used my iPhone with apple pay?

Zones 1-4 Zones 1-6

Adult rate Half adult rate*

£8.00 £8.80
£4.00 £4.40

National Railcard holders
£5.30 £5.90

* 16+ Oyster photocard and JobCentre Plus Discount

Nothing fishy. It's explained in your screenshot.

Initially encrypted and sent to Apple. Then unencrypted and re-encrypted using a key that the merchant can read.

I imagine the initial transfer to Apple is encrypted with a private key that only Apple can read.

But why not just encrypted end to end with the seller?

Only speaking from card contactless experience waitrose's system doesn't allow it, if I ask for cashback then tap my contactless card on the reader it goes through with just the shopping amount...

Sad to say work was manic I haven't used mine at all today!

Thanks. Fingers crossed Apple pay works a bit different. Maybe the ones with upgraded software that support any amount on the transaction also support cashback.
