I think all went pretty well today using Apple Pay on my Watch. I used it in:

Caffe Nero
Costa
Tesco
Le Pain Quotidien

The only places I didn't use it were Waterstones (because they said they wouldn't have contactless until tomorrow) and on TfL (because I stuck with Oyster as I have a railcard discount).

The only thing I don't like is that I don't get a list of recent transactions.

Open passbook , click on the required card, the press the i button down in the bottom right corner, this will bring up the card information including transactions

Anyone else noticed in iOS 9 maps app, Apple pay locations have not been added yet for the U.K. ? When I move the map over to Manhattan I see Apple pay locations so the feature exists.

My Amex didn't work in Tesco last night after two tries. My Natwest card was flawless all day though.

Will go M&S later this morning to try it out there.

I am little bit disappointed. Twice in 2 days Apple pay has not worked for me. It works fine at McDonald's but would not work at kfc or a petrol station that has contactless. Can a case on the phone affect Apple pay? Or is it just that these terminals are not up to date enough?

They'll probably add it when users share their location data when using apple pay. Its in the terms and conditions where you use will feed back to apple.

...so am I correct in saying that you don't even need to wake the iPhone up and open the Passbook app in order to pay via Apple Pay? Can you just hold your finger on the home button and touch the top part of the phone on the terminal and the default card will show up and pay?!

Correct - when the iPhone is near an NFC terminal it will automatically activate the display and prompt you to do a fingerprint scan to pay.

You can, if you want, open the passbook app and pre-scan your finger, and for a limited time it will ask you to hold to the NFC terminal to pay. Avoids embarrassment if you go to pay and your fingerprint isn't read properly. Also recommended for tube travel to prevent annoying other users.

...perfect - thanks for that ;)

This. This. This.

Everyone should know about this. I've been telling my London based friends about it to speed up the tube barrier process, a few were telling me last night there were some issues with lines due to Apple Pay.

I'm surprised there isn't more guidance that this can be done - I accidentally figured it out by having Passbook open and having my finger on TouchID. If you pre-load as the person in front of you is scanning, you'll go through instantly.

Personally it's not a big issue for me, the tube is one of the reasons I couldn't stand living in London. Regular visits to the capital are enough for me.

Hopefully as people learn about the technology things will get better. But I imagine there will be a few bumps in the road in the coming weeks.

what about the double click home button from lock screen to show passbook?

is that working for people or is it just an ios9 feature or only works in areas where the iPhone knows nfc terminals are? (it uses location services)

Doubt it would use location services. There doesn't seem to be a use for double-clicking the home button on the lockscreen at the moment so it is possible. But it is not working for me in iOS 8.

apple pay uses location services via passbook, check your settings privacy passbook. thats why I asked about the double click home button bringing up passbook maybe only in an area it knows has apple pay , a bit like when a suggested app is shown on lock screen.

maybe its just an iOS 9 thing

I've got a 5s and a Watch, so no recent transactions on either.

I had the same experience today. Didn't work in either Costa or Waitrose despite the shop assist letting me try several times. Passbook automatically opened i put my thumb to the touch id and the iphone kept displaying 'Hold Near Reader To Pay' - I did try but eventually had to use my contactless bank card ( lucky I had it on me )

Surely a simple Apple case wouldn't affect this?

Slightly different outcome earlier with Amex at at Post Office location... tried 3 times, each time the display on the phone activated, accepted my fingerprint, and then reported 'Done' but the reader in the post office acted as if it didn't detect payment. I eventually gave up and used a contactless card. Let's hope the next time is more successful. Maybe it was just the post office... has anyone else had success there?

Considering that this is a new service (In the UK) it will definitely have teething problems and will get better with time. But so far i have been impressed. Hopefully this should be running a lot smoother in a months time along with more companies removing the £20-£30(September) limit.

Hmm, maybe there is a fault with your NFC chip.

I had the same issue at Morrisons and Waitrose. Waitrose worked the second time I tried.

Ok so tried again and this time I had the same experience as you. Starbucks.

My phone said 'done' but Starbucks guys said their till didn't register payment. Tried again and worked on, this time I didn't put my phone as close to the contactless machine, that seem to make a difference.
