I took the reciept given to me in co-op earlier (usually I don't when paying with cash) but this time I wanted it to read. On it gives the device account number, its ID, so people saying you can't be tracked are wrong. You can.

I also want to say to shops please stop giving paper receipts, we don't need them, they are in our iPhones. Please stop wasting earths resources. You do not need to print anything. Thanks. ps...if you need more motivation, this will save you money.

My Costa receipt says "unknown verification (reserved for payment system)". No idea what that means or whether it is an Apple Pay thing.

mine says visa, then gives a load of ***** with account number which is 4 numbers. I checked all the numbers on the reciept against the one in my apple pay passbook cards in settings. Its the device account number. Not the card number. Its the ID the iPhone uses to mask your payment card. If you shop at places that are owned by the same company they can trace you (in a way)

Many stores won't give a receipt when you pay with contactless now. In fact, one of my local pubs won't use it automatically as people were getting cross not being given receipts.

Yes this is so you can get refunds.

co-op needs to stop then. Are you reading co-op? yes of course you are. All the banks are reading this at the moment :)

(device account number) ah yes that makes sense.

Well I was hoping I wouldn't need a paper receipt, buy it turns out I do. I don't get a receipt when using Apple Watch in either my watch or iPhone 5s.

What's the issue about being tracked? They can if you use your card normally...

I've never really got this 'being tracked/watched/big brother' issue

If the government want to check my bank transactions and see I got a steak bake from Greggs and a muffin from Starbucks then so be it......

I honestly think they will have more on their plates than my dinner

Pre-Authenticate apple pay, by going into the passbook/wallet app and then holding your thumb. You're then given 1 minute to tap onto the terminal. It's just as fast if not milliseconds slower than Oyster in that way. Did it this way 5 times today with no delay to anyone behind me.

Didn't know you could do that - thanks.

Starts to defeat the purpose a little at that stage I guess, but hey-ho.

It's a dangerous view to have guys. It's not solely about tracking you in terms of knowing where you are. It's building a profile.

There's a reason companies pay so much for ad data - it's valuable. There's a reason companies pay much for users (e.g. Facebook for Instagram and Whatsapp) - it's valuable.

What happens when they know everything about you. And that information on you is being sold to the highest bidder? You're a little overweight. You get some chest pains. The doctor says you must eat clean. Now that steak bake and muffin you didn't care about sharing... Insurance company finds out - ping, up goes the premium. Holiday companies already play a fun game and ramp up prices on hotels and flights when they're being viewed heavily - just imagine they knew what you liked and where you went each year, they'd have you price wise.

Sounds far fetched, and it's just a couple of crappy examples off the top of my head. But that can easily be the future if everyone just said "I have nothing to hide" and gave all their privacy away.

This is one of the reasons I stay out of Google's suite of apps and OSes. I'd rather pay Apple and know they're not particularly interested in making money off me and my habits/data rather than get similar and in some cases superior offerings from Google for "free".

does anyone know if it works in asda as i shop a lot in there?

Nope and it won't do anytime soon as their parent company, Walmart in the U.S., are dead set against it.

I also believe Asda is one of the companies supporting Zapp payments which is the UK equivalent of CurrentC.

I can't believe it's taking HSBC a full two weeks longer to get their act together than the other banks. Part of me hopes it will come online sooner than that, but they're giving a long date so they don't have to reply to thousands of tweets again.

It's not 2 weeks. It's since September 2014 when it was announced. Don't let them get away with incompetence that easily. They knew it was coming.

Friend of mine cannot get his Apple pay to work in Greggs! Do you think this is because they have their own payment solution with Paypal?

So I've been using the Watch on the Tube for a few days now, and I do love the convenience - but it definitely, absolutely, takes far too long.

This is even with double-tapping a good 10 seconds before actually going through the barrier.

There IS a very noticeable 3 - 4 second delay in opening the barrier. At rush hour, at Bank station, that is unacceptable - not necessarily for myself, but for the people behind me. Several times now I've had tutting and sighing as people who are used to the speediness of Oyster wait a few seconds behind me while the Watch opens the barrier.

I think the issue is that Contactless takes longer than Oyster in TFL's implementation - and Apple Pay takes slightly longer than Contactless. Knock on effect of delays.
