I'm starting to think I'm not destined to use apple pay! Stayed in a hotel overnight for business (not something I do often). They didn't take an imprint of my card at checkin so had to pay for dinner at the table. Assumed it would be the normal chip & pin wireless and she promptly tapped my card on the reader - bah! No matter had to pay for the car park next morning at checkout. Receptionists computer crashed so they have me an exit ticket for free... I despair!

Had issue at McDonald's earlier... Watch wouldn't work. Had to get my phone out and use that instead..

When I tried the watch a day earlier it worked after about 7 - 8 long seconds. Doesn't seem reliable.

I have used it twice now. Once with my watch in Morrisons and once with my iPhone in the Co-op. Both times worked flawlessly and instantly. I have used in-app using Just Eat too and that also worked as advertised

Just need contactless in more stores and the limit removed for Apple Pay and it will be perfect!

I used mine in McDonald's and it was the quickest experience I had. Definitely differs place to place though. However it been fortunate to not have an experience like yours so far. Although all mine is through the phone as I don't have the watch.

McDonalds was the only place that I had seen the apple pay logo on as well.

I've struggled to use it at some places on the Watch as it's not obvious / hard to put it in the right place on some card readers. Angling the phone at 90º and placing that at the top of the reader's screen is much easier.

The technology has worked seamlessly for me so far... I can't get over how convenient it is. My only problem has been the checkout people...

Whereas before when paying for things, pulling out a card would be a visual cue for the till operator to initiate a card payment through the till. With Apple Pay that cue is gone and so I find myself having to tell the operator instead which on a few occasion has got me a few bemused 'but where is your card looks'. It's no biggy but it makes the process a bit less slick.

Obviously with self checkout systems there isn't that problem but I think it's going to take staff a while to get used to what an Apple Watch looks like and to use that as a cue for payment.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

Yeah have got a few weird looks - My first time in McDonalds the woman said she didnt think that worked here - obviously it did. Used again in McDonalds this morning and when I said apple pay the guy knew exactly what it was and was fine.

Used it in Esso on my Watch - the man seemed pretty surprised and was quite interested in what it was.

Have used it 5/6 times now using both my phone and watch and so far have 100% success rate (Touch wood!)

Just used the watch for some stuff in superdrug. Can get behind the poster above for saying that the card is the visual cue to set up the reader..

I had to ask to use my watch, which was met with a little bemusement and 'err you can try!', inevitably though that led to some amazement that this dude just paid for stuff with his watch!

In my field trials of using Apple Pay on my iphone i've noticed that some retailers need to activate their terminals to enable the 'contactless' functionality.

Starbucks being an example today - I could tell the terminal wasn't setup, if I had followed her guidance it would not have worked - once I told her she then did something and the terminal came to life

So.. this may be what is happening for some people on here who have had problems - it's not your fault its the till / terminal not actually being in the correct state for your to present your iphone.

Failed repeatedly today. Tesco contactless - twice the reader said "Payment not processed" and I had to use my card, and then again in Benugo coffee shop (which displayed Amex logo on the contactless reader).

I do suspsect a lot of my problems are Amex related, and will be solved when HSBC pull their finger out so I can use a Visa card.

Mine repeatedly failed today, NatWest visa debit. It's so hit and miss I'm considering not using it anymore

It's worth troubleshooting first, make sure you're not stuck with a faulty NFC chip, etc.

It's always frustrating seeing people post things like this and not bother to check.

First time pre authorising a transaction today (morrisons)

Loads quicker,

Am I right in reading that when iOS 9 hits then a double press of the home button will display our default card as this will speed the process up even more

Correct. IOS 9 will allow you to double click the home button to open Wallet ( new name for Passbook )

As we know from the T&Cs the 20 GBP limit is only down to terminal software. Are there any shops that have the limit removed yet?

Handy post earlier (don't know if they've all been confirmed):

Found this in the Metro, a list of places you can go over the £20 cap apparently:

I think Apple made a great job with Apple Pay, it all works in quite a clever way, but the introduction to the UK market was not great at all. Launch partners didn't make it (HSBC, Ocado...). Nobody knows about the spending limits, it is a terrible mess. I did use it a few times, and it is a great feature. Unfortunately using it is awkward, because nobody likes looking like an idiot at the checkout, because one doesn't know about the spending limit.

Ah that's crap. I knew there would've been a few wrong, Boots has a cap from what the cashier lady told me.
It's potentially a list of retailers that would like to abolish the cap by the end of the year. I'm not sure.

At the moment, I would assume, unless it is specifically printed otherwise, that the limit at the shop you're in is £20.

There's only a few times you take looking a total tit at a checkout with the checkout operator saying you haven't got enough money in your account. Its embarrassing!

NatWest say everything is fine their end. The declined transactions hadn't registered on their systems so it wasn't NatWest declining them so the problem might reside with the retailer/terminal.

Tried it again in Morrisons with success but I'll keep my wallet handy!

Just tried using natwest on watch in Costa - first time using it - only gets as far as authorising on the till and failed twice. Had to resort to card.. The watch buzzed and the first time I left it next to the reader the second time I moved it away and no joy... Not a good start - lady said they'd had a few use apple pay in the week... :(
