On a similar note, I’m still really really upset that Apple killed the floppy disk. No, seriously. Why would they have done away with something so forward thinking and necessary for a true computing experience? It’s almost like they did it accidentally on purpose in 1998 just to tick me off so I would post this today.

Its Called advances in technology. Do you expect a company to not move forward with something that’s more efficient and continually use antiquated technology that is slow and doesn’t meet technological standards anymore. There is no way I would ever go back to a floppy disk given the current speed’s and its having less hardware for other advancements for battery improvements, ect. Its Not just Apple that removes features, other companies have as well. You can’t expect a company to stay stagnant and not advance in technological changes to make the product better.

I can't leave iOS because I value privacy, but I will not buy new phone until there's one with a jack.

1. there is no advantage to not having a headphone jack - only a loss of choice. Don't tell me there's no room - make the phone marginally bigger.

2. it's anti-consumer - they're attempting to shift headphones from an item which could potentially last a life-time to a subscription model ('disposable' bluetooth headphones). It's all about the $$$$, **** the user. Very few cross platform/cross device open source standards exist, and 3.5mm is about the most useful in existence.

3. "why not leave the dongle on the headphones?!? you're attention seeking!!" - You cannot use a single set of headphones, with multiples macs and an iPhone - this workflow is not compatible with leaving the adapter on the headphones.

4. "AirPods solve everything" - I'm glad you like them, I know they're great. I'm glad apple sell them. But give me back my ****ing jack - I don't want to subscribe to my headphones (lithium ion batteries dies after a few years making them a disposable item meaning I have to re-buy/resubscribe to continue my experience).

5. I don't want to charge my headphones, and I don't want my headphones to die.

6. I don't want to use Siri to change the ****ing volume. Inline remote works perfect.

7. Wires. Never. Bothered. Me.

Bluetooth audio can and will co-exist.

But there is no good reason aside from making more $$$ to remove the jack.

I understand you want to complain, but I don’t understand why you’re half expecting the jack to return some day. Literally no amount of threats (“I will not buy a new phone until...”) will make that happen.

The removal of the Jack would have been a more difficult move if Airpods, Beats X and other bluetooth headphones weren't so good for 98% of people. Audiophiles will always moan and gripe but they always have, they complained at each iPod release, comparing DAC chips and such, meanwhile everyone else just listens to MP3's and carries on living. Oh and there's also an adapter, so who cares about the jack!!!

Soooooooooooo, I just read about some Android app that had malware in it on the official Google Play Store, malware activated 6hrs after install so nobody noticed. Cool stuff!

Guess I'll just keep using my AirPods and be happy. Wish I wanted a 3.5mm jack so I could switch to android and get those other nice features like malware...

I dont have to be audiophile to hear that apple headphones are average at best, there are many much better headphones than apple headphones, but with jack:(

I am tired of making sure I got my headphone adapter with me. That is not good user experience and it just doesn’t work straight out of the box which Apple products used to do.

And no, wireless headphones sounds terrible, I have tried them all. I only have a pair of wireless headphones for when I am flying due to the noise cancellation feature it has.

Looks like I will go to Android if the next generations $1500 iPhone’s have no headphone output.

I honestly think people should grow up and embrace new tech. The try and trusted 3.5mm jack is older than my grandma (well not quite)...

I will suggest like all others do but with something new you might actually want to try, remember Pixel 2 also removed the jack - like it or not less and less manufacturers will support it. Wireless is the way to go!

Anyway, give Airpod a go, really great product. Or a cheaper alternative.

OR - if you care about sound quality so much, you should need a portal DAC anyway, same as me, which I use A&K's XB10! It's way better than most of phones' build in output and it pairs with your phone via BT nicely with both 3.5 & 2.5 balanced jacks. This thing can pretty much drive any headphones/IEMs.

Hopefully see you come back with a happier take of new tech!!!

ps, I wish Apple introduce a high-end IME version of AirPod!!

Exactly. I haven't missed the headphone jack since I replaced my 6s Plus. Earbuds snagged on my bag and ended up yanking the phone of my hand and onto the floor of the train. Two years, two iPhones later (7 Plus / X) with the AirPods and life has been pretty damn good.

Thats a good point, I only dropped my phone 4 times in 10 years, 3 of those times where because of the stupid cable on the headphones!

This is sarcasm right?

Exactly! It’s like they made a conscious decision over time to be like, hey, anything that spins wastes energy and has terrible IO performance so we’re going to kill those spinning things. I mean, who do they think they are? Innovators? Pffft. Please. Take me back to the days of hard drive platters and 8x CDROMS when FaceBook wasn’t a wholly owned government outreach tool to make us hate freedom and give up voting.

Oh yes, you are pulling our legs. Well played sir :)

Might as well leave now. Just like when Apple took out the CD disk drive from their computers, they moved on. The headphone jack isn’t coming back.

My apology. I thought the sarcasm was self evident!

I don't think you understand how market forces work.

Imagine if no-one bough the next gen of iPhones because they lacked a feature.

You can bet that feature would be back the gen after. Simple as.

You do realise you get an adapter so you can use any headphones you like lol

Yes, I'd bet everyone visiting this forum probably knows that.

Do you know that using an adapter is not at simple as leaving it attached to the headphones if you want to use a single pair of headphones with multiple different devices (ALL using the universal 3.5mm jack, except an iPhone with its proprietary port. Perhaps I should leave the dongle hanging from the $1000 phone? That'll look good. And then, when I come to charge, I'll lose it.

Apologies for being patronising, but I must assume you are quite young. You're suggesting its age makes it inherently bad!??!

Its the pinnacle of analog connectors. It is as close to a perfect design as exists. Shall we scrap the wheel too? Speaker tech is kind of old too - bin the cone!

What advance took place when Apple stopped offering both wired/wireless audio, and started just offering wireless. What advance just occurred here?

The phone was the same form factor even! Or are you talking about the buttonless home-button? We were all crying out for that advance...!

They removed the jack to make more money off you.

Yes, if everyone stopped buying iPhone they’ll have no other choice. Do you honestly think this is ever going to happen? iPhone 7/8/X already sold by the millions. The headphone jack lovers will never be able to make even a small dent in sales.

You can complain all you want but please stop thinking the threats are going to make an impact and change Apple’s mind!

We shall see in 2 years when my iPhone X gets too slow.

It is definetly one which you can use headphones without the need of using dongles.

Using dongles for a mobile device is simply not good user experience.

wired headphones what is that? I went wireless with the airpods and have not looked back. I actually forgot my airpods one day at home when i went to the gym but had the wired earphones in my bag collecting dust. The wire was always in way, i guess is because i got used to the wireless earphones.

slow? idk about that im still using my iphone 6s and is still running as fast as the day i got it. The battery last a little less though but i can easily replace that

Switch now because they won't ever put it back. The reason they won't is because it will make them look bad, like if they are admitting that one of their major moves didn't work out. That's not how Apple goes around.
