They’re useless when the battery is drained though... I’m really disappointed in Apple’s decision here. Everyone seems content to just go with the flow I guess...

I would say most consumers are not willing to abandon the iPhone just because the deleted 3.5 mm Jack. As others have alluded to, Bluetooth has grown exponentially with wireless headphones, and a 3.5 mm Jack being deleted isn’t necessarily that big of a problem when we have the convenience without wires.

I can't leave iOS because I value privacy, but I will not buy new phone until there's one with a jack.

1. there is no advantage to not having a headphone jack - only a loss of choice. Don't tell me there's no room - make the phone marginally bigger.

2. it's anti-consumer - they're attempting to shift headphones from an item which could potentially last a life-time to a subscription model ('disposable' bluetooth headphones). It's all about the $$$$, **** the user. Very few cross platform/cross device open source standards exist, and 3.5mm is about the most useful in existence.

3. "why not leave the dongle on the headphones?!? you're attention seeking!!" - You cannot use a single set of headphones, with multiples macs and an iPhone - this workflow is not compatible with leaving the adapter on the headphones.

4. "AirPods solve everything" - I'm glad you like them, I know they're great. I'm glad apple sell them. But give me back my ****ing jack - I don't want to subscribe to my headphones (lithium ion batteries dies after a few years making them a disposable item meaning I have to re-buy/resubscribe to continue my experience).

5. I don't want to charge my headphones, and I don't want my headphones to die.

6. I don't want to use Siri to change the ****ing volume. Inline remote works perfect.

7. Wires. Never. Bothered. Me.

Bluetooth audio can and will co-exist.

But there is no good reason aside from making more $$$ to remove the jack.
I agree 100%
I is just stupid to get rid of the headphone jack!
If the phone needs to be a little thicker to accommodate the jack then make it a little bigger! It would make it stronger and less fragile also probably.

I think creating a water resistant phone attributed to the decision to lose the headphone jack.
People need to move with technology not against it otherwise we'll get nowhere.
I agree with this to a point. But sometimes a company makes a change for the betterment of the company and has nothing to do with the consumer. I have no issues with apple removing the HP jack, but I can see how it can affect others. The more apple removes wires, the more dongles we need :)

I am tired of making sure I got my headphone adapter with me. That is not good user experience and it just doesn’t work straight out of the box which Apple products used to do.

And no, wireless headphones sounds terrible, I have tried them all. I only have a pair of wireless headphones for when I am flying due to the noise cancellation feature it has.

Looks like I will go to Android if the next generations $1500 iPhone’s have no headphone output.

You'll be heading to Android for sure if that is your requirement, so why wait? Go ahead and make the switch now. You can probably get a good deal on the S9+ and the camera is very good.

S9 plus is a solid device. I really want to switch back to apple but between the quirks and the price I can not bring myself to do it.
The watch and the sycn and transition is flawless and everything works well.
It just that stuff is a bit pricy and there are a few things that made me swicth from Apple that I did not like.

Now when I mainly use the phone for internet, text, and calls and occasional social media I can not see myself spending more to do that.

Yes I want a Plus, and air pods, and a macbook air, I want the apple watch as well, and I do want to go back to apple music.

Figure tomorrow I will make up my final deicision. Either an 8 plus and do the annual upgrade early this fall along with an apple watch and air pods for sure or go with an S9 due to price. and the fact I am engrossed and got everything switched over now....

What do you mean price? The S9 plus from is from 839.99. https://www.samsung.com/us/smartphones/galaxy-s9/buy/s/Device/
The 8 plus is from 799.99...https://www.apple.com/us-k12/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-8

I have some $1000 IEM’s which i usually use with an external DAC. But when the battery runs dead, I have to rely on a dongle to use it (so i need to make sure I have this dongle with me also)

I have the Bose QC35 II myself (which actually is alot better than the Beats Studio 3 that I also tried) but it is nowhere close to my IEM’s. But I only use it for flights to get rid of the engine noise.

You use an external DAC, but your issue is with a dongle? Ha ha

Have a nice trip to Android because the A Train is moving on to better tech

If I didn't have a spare battery already charged to pop in, I would just use the cable that came with my phones and put up with the dongle.

I got myself a pair of BeatsX when I got my iPhone 7 Plus. Couldn't be happier. The future is wireless.

WTF all iPhones come with an adapter for your wired headphones...
Which is nice and all but you basically have to make sure to have it in you and it also doesn't really do much when it comes to being able to charge the phone while you use wired headphones (be they 2.5mm or Lightning).

One of the main reasons I picked up a S9+. Miss iOS though.

Exactly opposite of what I did, I gave up 3.5mm audio jack and great earbuds I owned just To stay iOS which was more important to me. Its what everyone should do on a personal choice.

Got my Beats X (neck buds) today and it’s much better than wireless earbuds that seem too awkward for me sticking out of my ears like Herman Munster. They Feel natural in ear with nice fit and easy to forget your wearing them when wrapped with connected magnets around my neck when not in use.

Decent sound but I’ve had/heard better. Paid only $119 on sale so it was worthy.

When I really want audio, I listen to a real headphone I own powered by DAC & AMP.

you leave the adapter connected to your headphones...
charging and having it plugged in is a different story. wireless charging is your friend then. unless you want to use your phone charge it and listen to music.
just get the adapters they have that have two ports for charging and the headphone jack.

Me personally I havent used wired headphones in 4 years or so now. the jaybird line of bluetooth was finally good enough to get rid of all wired stuff and I couldn't be happier with no wires. Not sure why people complain so much there are options

Wireless charging isn't much help with an iPhone 7. Nor is it much help if you are somewhere where you don't have your wireless charger, which is far far from being as ubiquitous as a cable these days. As for adapters, they aren't the most reliable unfortunately, having gone through a number of them, including the Belkin ones (which are still not even official ones as Apple doesn't even have those).

Basically yes there are options out there which are more cumbersome and often enough less reliable when it comes to rather simple things that could be done without a second thought with previous iPhones or even other Apple devices.

hey what can you do. Complain and switch or adapt with what is new. time to go wireless and move on with your life. You can still use the dongle if you want to use your wired headphones sometimes.

Well, not jumping into a whole different use of something just because someone decided that essentially, so adapting through means I can find (like the adapters, when needed), for the time being at least, but at the same time expressing my opinion about it when fitting.
