For those members who are upset about the 3.5mm jack missing , can you please also state your earbuds that is not replaceable?

I’ve not heard anyone mention any qaulity earbuds that’s actually worth complaining about that you can’t replace with wireless buds honestly.

If you don’t have premium earbuds I don’t see the problem as the solution is an easy fix.

I gave up Sennheiser IE60’s and 80’s for my X. Here was my thoughts :

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/my-thoughts-on-beats-x.2116619/

I have THE IEM: Campfire Audio Andromeda (1150€) with the cable Reference 8 (270€) and I notice every sound difference between devices. I noticed this with the IE80 too which I had before.

Those are nice , hard to give those up. I get it. o_O

I had to make this choice too.

I also get both sides of the argument: You got those who aren’t audiophiles who would like to stop reading about 3.5mm complaints because it doesn’t effect them, they don’t understand audio or they moved on.

On the other hand you got those with real earbuds forced to use a hanging dongle that changes the analog to digital on premium earbuds not to mention aesthetics and the weight you feel on the cord.

But that’s what open discussion forums are for, for those who don’t want anyone to complain, you don’t have to participate if you don’t like the subject.

There’s almost no one left but Samsung with 3.5mm, so the topic should be changed from Android to Samsung.

I couldn’t go to the Samsung OS on top of Android, so here I am. :)

I love wired headphones. I hate charging things.

To all the wireless lovers - keep using BT devices. A headphone jack doesn’t stop BT from working fine. The rest of us really like wired tech.

Apple just wants to sell more BT headphones. This was a business decision, not an aesthetic decision.

Bring back the jack!
have you ever used wireless headphones playing sports or at the gym? wired headphones are ok for none athletic type listening. me personally my listening is all sports based. wireless is a game changer. especially extremely good sounding wireless earbuds.
in your eyes killing tape players for CD players was just a business decision?

Sales of BT ear/headphones were twice that of wired last year.

Be that as it may there are applications for wired headphones that are not artificially created like the use of Bluetooth devices when ports are being forced out of the market in order to sell more stuff with batteries inside.

Music production and the high end audio market are the first two examples that come to mind.

Who is producing music on a phone or expecting high grade audio on one?

I am responding specifically to the claim that soon no wired headphone will be available for purchase. I have not claimed that iOS devices are the most common music production tools but am simply pointing to multiple fields where wired headphones rule and where they make sense.

They won’t go away for production. They will only exist on high end audio. Which is a relative fewer number of actual people. The headphones jack will go away from all portable audio players.

Most Android smartphones now do not have the 3.5mm headphone jack in them either! With bluetooth 5.0, there no reason to have the 3.5mm anymore. Bluetooth earbuds are cheap and headphones are in the $30.00 range for cheapo ones.

Most don't?

Why is a headphone socket not required with Bluetooth 5.0?

There are a large number of dedicated portable audio players that use and will continue to use an audio headphone socket.

I am tired of making sure I got my headphone adapter with me. That is not good user experience and it just doesn’t work straight out of the box which Apple products used to do.

And no, wireless headphones sounds terrible, I have tried them all. I only have a pair of wireless headphones for when I am flying due to the noise cancellation feature it has.

Looks like I will go to Android if the next generations $1500 iPhone’s have no headphone output.

Okay. Bye.

While I agree getting rid of the headphone jack is a deal breaker for me too, the iPhone SE (and 6S) still has the jack and the home button. In fact SE2 is coming out next month. I have a 4S so if the jack is gone on the SE2 I will pick up the SE before they are gone. I am a musician so having that jack there to interface with various pieces of equipment is already baked into my setup and when you are "live" you want tight connections, not dongles. I hope Apple continues with the jack in the SE2 so we headphone jack types still have a choice.

As much as I would like Apple to return the headphone jack I do not see that happening. That is one reason I use my SE way more than my 8. Maybe, just maybe, if the SE 2 becomes a reality, Apple throws me a bone and keeps the 3.5mm jack in it. I don’t think it will happen but I can always hope.
I am hoping for a jack in the SE2 too, if not going with SE before they are gone.:)

No, that’s not a _fact_ that the SE two is coming out in May/June. I understand the rumors have been influencing for others to believe that, but there is no validity behind that an iPhone SE 2 will be updated in May or June. There were also a plethora of rumors indicating that March would also see an iPhone SE 2, which also did not happen.

The only analyst/rumor that I do believe came from Ming Kuo, and he believes that iPhone SE two would not be the year for a refresh in 2018. And I certainly don’t believe an iPhone SE 2 will launch during the fall Keynote, given that three iPhones are expected to be announced.

And I have mentioned it before in other threads, I don’t think Apple will retain the 3.5 mm Jack if they update the iPhone SE, because it goes completely against what multiple Apple executives have stated that they believe the Jack is antiquated and dated technology, where Bluetooth is the future. Which is one of the main reasons why the AirPods even exist today.

If you think the headphone jack itself is obsolete, not just on mobile devices as that's debatable, then I strongly disagree with you. I'm pretty sure my Sennheiser HD 660 S (those actually have a 6.35mm jack) smokes all bluetooth headphones ever made and will be made for at least another decade even when used without a dedicated amp (which obviously I do use).

I do have a pair of wireless HD 4.50s for on the go but for at home listening, at least for me, nothing's going to replace the headphone jack anytime soon.

Do you notice a difference using these with a phone or a seperate dac? In my eyes good headphones that are wired are for listening in closed environments or music production studios. Try using those running up the bleechers or working out at the gym.
Theres a time and place for good quality wired headphones and good quality bluetooth earbuds/headphones. I think phones dont necessarily need the headphone jack anymore. At least there are options for when you want to use wired.

Yes, obviously. Most built in dacs/amps aren't powerful enough to properly drive high end headphones and you get interference from the electronics around them. They're perfect for listening at home but yeah I wouldn't take them on the go lol.

Try to buy a BT headset in half those stores for under $20 when you lose your wireless headphones. Gimme my headphone jack back, please. We'll both be happy -- you can be wireless and I'll use my crappy wired headset that I'll probably lose and replace next week for $5.
You can still purchase your $5 headphones with jack and use with your iPhone with the adapter. Or did I miss something?
