Does anyone have any experiences of not being able to make the seminar and being asked to another one? I made it clear in my CV/cover letter that I was 16 and at 6th form so I thought it was strange that they gave me a 1pm event time.

I've emailed them and hope to get a positive response.

Is it the norm for people who apply for Specialist/Expert/Genius/etc to be invited to a seminar?

I suppose perhaps maybe not for expert or creative.

They have an interest in you, so they should be flexible. It might be worth calling the store directly.
I went to a seminar about 2 months ago now, but found they weren't looking for someone just for the summer months. The manager called me after and said he had recommended me for an another recruitment seminar at a store closer to my uni. Good luck!

Well I have some bad news, Apple doesn't hie anyone under 18.

I was hired and my manager kept on trying to push it through HR and Legal but they wouldn't budge. The reason is because people under 18 aren't legally responsible, even with your parent/guardian signature.

Good news is that the manager said to walk in to the store on my 18th birthday and he'll hire me right then and there :D

@Groat: If I were you I would still try and go, its great to have the interview experience.

Wow, that doesn't sound good. I don't understand why they'd even ask me if they knew themselves that HR would not allow anyone under 18? I made it clear that I was 16 on my CV.

I'm hoping that on Monday I'll get a reply from the Regional Recruitment Manager in response to my email - although I do agree even if I don't get the job an interview experience is always great!

I'm assuming you're going to keep his word and walk in on your 18th?

I asked the regional recruitment manager the same thing since I did the seminar and everything. She asked around and said that they can hire under 18 but that wasn't the real truth, as I found out.

What area/store did you apply to? I went through the East Bay, CA one.

I'm applying to one in the UK, maybe the rules are slightly different? Do you have any tips for the seminar/event - I'm currently unable to attend unless they allocate me an evening/weekend interview, but any advice would be great. I don't think it's too much to ask for a re-shuffle, seeing as I made it clear in my cover letter I was a student and could only work weekends!

Just be yourself and be glad to be there. This is really just a personality test don't be afraid to ask questions or talk to people.

Does anyone know what a Business Manager does at the retail store? I got a call from a recruiter about looking at this position. I have an extensive background in business management (Managing Account Sales executives and Business solution sales). Any idea what level this is?

The Business Team handles the needs of small business owners who would like to find solutions to their line of work through us. If you're hired as a Business Team member, you'll be in charge of getting in contact with new business introductions on a weekly basis as well as catering to their needs. Think of it as a position where you would mainly be in the back of the house handling the needs of certain people.

I recieved an email yesterday stating that I'm being considered for a Genius bar position after reviewing my CV and Profile and that they will be in touch over the next few days with me with details of the Recruitment event...

Anyone know how long it takes before they get back to you with dates?

So is this considered a management role? Or is it more of a entry level sales position dealing with businesses? In this role would one have the flexibility to make visits to the customer or are you at the retail location working the retail hours. Any idea what the earning potential is? Is there a quota involved? Sorry for all the questions. Just want to know if this is something I should pursue with my background. I made over six figures and not sure if this position has that potential.

I went to one of these and it was such a pathetic joke. It was basically a fluff piece for apple and watching people kiss apple's ass was sickening. I was pretty much only asked two questions which they could of done in 5 minutes. Overall this was a complete waste of my time.

On the flip side it provided some comic relief listening to people talk about their "interesting facts" about themselves.

Is this group setting type interviewing for the retail side only? This kind of reminds me of what you would do as an entry level retail/sales associate. I am wondering if the business manager is different.

It was for all positions aside from managerial. If you mean Apple store as retail side then I would assume yes. The few people I know that got into Apple corporate were all one on ones where they actually asked questions that forced you to think a little bit.

Btw, the highlight of the session was listening to people state their "interesting facts" about themselves.

Guy 1: "I like to spend 10 hours a week in the woods...alone.

Guy 2: "I like to watch movies."
Manager: "What's your favorite movie?"
Guy 2: "Saw."

It was pretty clear there was little to no resume screening, which is highly unprofessional.

I think this is for the Apple Retail location as a business manager. I guess I will find out more. I hopefully I am not looking at a position where it's more or less a retail store clerk selling a product. If so I am not interested. Hopefully I don't sound like a snob but my background is in dealing with corporate business accounts and finding solutions.

Not at all, I can relate to that. I'm an engineer and was looking for some part time work until I found a full time job. But from my perspective the session was insulting, while everyone else there just ate it up. Interviews are assessments for both the employer and the employee, but it felt much more one sided.

I have no issues with the way they conduct interviews, just want to make sure it's a right match for me also. I think it would be awesome to work for Apple, but it has to be beneficial both ways.

The latter is a more accurate description. Yes, you will have the opportunity to make visits to your business clients and you do spend your time helping out in the front of the house as well.
