What does everyone advise that I wear to a seminar in the US? The email stated Business Casual but going through this forum and others I see a lot of people suggesting jeans...???

People pretty much wore everything. Some had dress shirts and slacks, some looked like they rolled in off the street. I would go with something you feel comfortable in that looks nice, but doesn't look too nice. I felt out of place in my dress shirt and slacks at the time, especially since the employees made no effort to dress up.

So does anyone know...

How long it takes from the moment you submit a background check till you get a phone call or e-mail from Apple?

No clue.

I've been through 4 interviews and waiting for final decision now. However at no point was I asked to submit for a background check. Guess perhaps my process is different.

I just applied for Specialist after my boyfriend just got hired with them.

What is the average turnaround for them to email/call you about a seminar?

A Genius I know also said she would recommend me. Do they have any pull on hiring?

Thanks! So excited... even though nothing has happened :) :apple:

I got the email last week thursday, and I'm wishing the seminar was this week... i'm so stoked about this! I've got 3 friends who already work there, I'm just not sure how much/if any sway they have in who gets hired or not...

Seriously, 4 interviews? I thought it was a bit much to have three interviews for my current engineering job. You'd at least think they could line up more than one interview at a time. Wait, was this 4 interviews on separate visits or 4 different people you talked to?

4 separate visits for interviews. And yes I think it's a bit much too. But I can see why they have so many interviews, gotta make sure you're someone they want on their team... a personable person...

Currently still waiting for them to get back to me about being hired or not. My previous job had 1 interview and they said I was hired at the end of the interview.

Funny enough, one of my friends kidded with me, So when is Jobs going to be giving you an interview?

That is ridiculous. At least line up two at a time when you visit. I've had 4 hour long interviews with 4 or more people, but to make someone come back 4 times is a bit much.

And why not just fire you if you aren't a fit for their team. At the end of the day you could have 30 interviews but never really know how someone meshes with the people and work environment until they are working full time. Personally I find Apple store employees to be annoying and overenthusiastic. If I ask a question about a product I want an honest answer, not a diehard fanboy answer. Seriously, find a single Apple store employee that will have anything negative to say about anything Apple.

Hi,

I have had two group interviews so far for an Apple Genius position in the UK. I feel pretty confident ive made it to the next stage which should be a "Screen test" does anyone know any more about this?

Cheers

The idea is to hopefully make these people think for a second that what they are doing is wrong.

I understand that you're frustrated but Apple's profit, as well as the competition to join their retail team, are both at an all-time high. If they're doing it wrong, then the numbers surely don't reflect that....

There's no correlation, or at best an infinitesimally small one, between their product sales and their hiring practices. It's also my understanding that these hiring sessions are a new tactic for them, as evidenced by this thread. I was simply making it clear to the manager that I considered their hiring practices unacceptable. The gentleman above seemed to have a more positive experience where group exercises were actually performed. My session had no group exercises, which was one of my main points of contention I made to the manager.

Bottom line is this, I work in an environment where processes are constantly picked over, analyzed, changed, improved, etc. I know Apple does this in their corporate chain and if they aren't implementing these same processes to their retail chain then they are doing something wrong.

Well their hiring practices result in (generally speaking) picking the best candidates - there is plenty of evidence of high customer satisfaction with the level of service. Having friendly and approachable salespeople have led to Apple Retail stores producing more revenue per square foot than any other retail chain. That seems to me like a correlation.

These hiring sessions are not a new tactic, they have been around for several years at least. All sessions vary to some extent, they have to keep applicants on their toes and the recruiters themselves would no doubt get bored of the format day after day.

You're obviously entitled to be bitter at your experience but that doesn't make the whole process 'wrong' as you put it.

I think you mean 'tech screen' and it's a multiple choice technical test covering Mac and iPod/iPhone.

That's specious at best, because it assumes that their hiring practices are infallible and that hiring other candidates would not produce the same results.

I know plenty of people that bypassed these sessions and got personal interviews directly, so it isn't always the standard. If my experience had been 1/10th of what ineedanewwallet's experience was like I would have been ok with that. I pointed out the problems in my session, but you seem to ignore them.

And I'm although I'm potentially annoyed, I'm not bitter. I simply went to get a part time job for some pocket cash until I found a full time job. Two weeks after the session I got a full time job that I enjoy very much and two weeks after that I got an invitation to a recruiting event for Apple design and development. This is really about companies learning to respect the individual in the hiring process and these days there is a massive lack of respect by managers and HR people everywhere. I simply wanted to let the manager know that what she was doing was unprofessional.

Does the HireRight BG check include a UA? I noticed on HR's website that drug and alcohol testing is an included service with their BG checks, but from what I hear, it sounds like Apple just uses their Credit, criminal, and employment checking services. Am i right?

I posted this as it's own thread, but realized it may have been in the wrong topic area, so I thought I'd post here since there's been tons of great info from everyone on this thread

You would be correct. You really just enter your SSN number and you're done.

Good to know. It's been almost 36 hours since the second (third?) interview, and they said I'd receive an email to fill out in 24-48 hours...Getting a little uneasy about it almost being 48 hours since, but at least I know its an online check, not an in-person check

Guess the process is not always clear cut... as brbubba has said, not everyone goes through the group seminar process, instead they may go straight to personal interviews.

It seems often times Apple gives the background check before the final interview, which seems a little strange... paying money for a background check on someone you aren't sure you actually want just yet. Granted it's their money so they can do what they want.

UDontNoMe:
Being curious, do you still have another interview or have they indicated that you got a position?

You know, I wish I could tell ya:rolleyes:
I met store leaders and others, then went to a seminar a few weeks later, and they called me back that night to come in to meet one-on-one with amanager and the store leader at the store which, if hired, I would work at. After that, they told me that I would recieve an email from HireRight regarding the background check within 24-48 hours (48 hours will be 2pm today). They seemed interested ('so, you have full availability? will this change in the next 90 days? Are you OK with part-time, to start out?" etc.), but I don't know. I could have another interview, although I don't know who I could possibly meet with (Steve's probably too busy), but I'm hoping to see an answer today.

Sometimes they seem rather lax and slow about things... Case in point, my whole interview process was pretty slow and I had to followup numerous times. But they wanted me to fill out the background check asap. Ah well, guess we'll see.

Good luck to you!

Was the bg check just as Paintball613 said? just checking employment, credit, criminal records?
