What are the chances of even getting picked for the seminar? I feel like its very very slim. I will be a college student in Boston next year and I applied to multiple positions in Boston and Cambridge.

does apple allow someone already working at an 'aasp' to work for them as well? i think the aasp has a non-compete agreement and apple a NDA which isnt necessarily the same...so im assuming its more cant work for apple if im with the aasp (as they had the non-compete).

Photographs?

Do they still do the task where you have to get 2 photographs taken in front of everyone, one funny and one normal?

This is important for obscure medical reasons, I hope someone can answer me! :)

A contract with Apple Retail has a clause stating you must get approval from Apple if you wish to be employed somewhere else at the same time. I would imagine you would be refused permission to work at an AASP at the same time. Can't say for sure but given that Apple Retail employees have access to information not available to/in advance of AASP's - I could imagine they would have an issue with that.

Seminars tend to vary a lot (I never had to do any big group tasks or presentations but I know others did) but what you mention didn't happen in my seminar a couple of years ago.

I went to a recruiting seminar on Sunday and I got an e-mail about 30 minutes ago saying that it wasn't the right time for right now. :( How long do I have to wait to be able to apply again???

No problem at all

I got on to the Grow Your Own (GYO) Genius programme whilst I was a Specialist. GYO training is quite good but you can end up in this kind of limbo for a long time. You tend to find the managers are very bad at allocating enough time for your training - they'll just say it's really busy on the floor and get you to sell. I actually quit Apple (for various reasons) whilst I was still a Specialist, having spent 5 months as a GYO. A few months later they were advertising for a Genius job and I was tempted by it, so I applied and got the job. Whilst I was there, very few Specialists moved to become Geniuses (some did become Creatives though). It probably depends on the store though and how technical the Specialists are - the first step in applying is always completing a technical test and you need to get above a certain score.

When you went to your seminar, how much information did you know about their products? What sorts of information?

I knew a fair amount but only because I already owned a few products and kept up with their announcements. That's not to say I needed it though - there were no questions or tasks in my first seminar that needed knowledge of their products.

At my second stage group interview we had to demonstrate a feature of the Mac or iPod/iPhone to someone who was pretending to be a customer, so knowing something about what they do would be good, but I remember them saying not to worry if you hadn't used any products before. I think I did mine on iPhoto - but they're not looking to see what you know, but how you talk to the 'customer' and explain concepts.

Product knowledge really isn't required, and they certainly don't choose people for being knowledgeable alone. You're taught 'all you need to know' about the products during training.

I was rejected at the Financial Credit Check after the second interview - I *think* I'm on the "do not hire" list, as I applied 1/month for a year after that and never got any response. I applied to current stores and a large new one opening.

Doesn't matter anymore, the retail job I have now is incredibly awesome and they used my references instead of my credit check...

They have so many people applying, I think that since they now know for a fact they don't want you...

Sorry... :(

Apple called you in for a Seminar? Here's what to expect.

Hello everyone, so i just got back from the seminar. My seminar took place in berkley at a hotel. There were about 25 people there. Started right on time. Lasted for about 2 1/2 hours. First thing they make you do is, pair you up with a partner and make you introduce them and tell them why your partner would be a good fit for apple. You sit, then everyone takes their turn. After that they go through some slides, show short videos and introduce apple. Then they put you in a group of 5 people and send you out to corners. A worker from Apple asks you questions about your previous job and the issues, disagreements, accomplishments..what not. Its not as bad because at least your not speaking infront of 25 people, but 5 people. Overall it was a great experience. Just relax and take a deep breath. Time will fly..btw i just got called in for my 1st interview. Im going in tomorrow. Ill let you all know how that goes. :)

Hey guys first post here, I had my seminar last week, wasn't too confident about going through (individually I did ok, but we had to do a group roleplay and honestly our group was far by, THE worst ).

Luckily the next day I got the invite back to the 2nd step of the process: the individual interview. Has anybody got any tips? The seminar was a very relaxed and fun environment and they didn't ask much relating to why you should get the job, but I'm expecting the more serious stuff next time.

I just got invited to a seminar after submitting my info to a bunch of local Apple stores (northern VA has, like, eight). I feel that I'm a good candidate for a Specialist: like to teach people, personable, knowledgable about Apple, etc). My biggest concern is my age, however. I'm only 17 and a rising senior in high school. Does Apple even hire people under the age of majority?

I could have sworn you had to be at least 18 to work in an Apple store?

Anyways, which ones did you apply to? I'm basically in your situation (Without applying). A 17, rising senior. Northern VA.

The closest Apple store to me is probably either Tyson's, or Pentagon City.

I really have no idea if they hire minors. If they read my resume, it's clear that I'm not 18. Maybe they deal with the issue of age on an individual basis?

I applied to Tysons, Pentagon City, Georgetown, Reston, and Fair Oaks mall. Reston is the closest for me and that's where the seminar is. It's amazing how DC has so many Apple stores. Most states are lucky to have a couple.

I see the recruiting sessions are still just as demeaning as they were a year ago.

Still bitter I see .

People who have been to these sessions might call them many things, but demeaning is not one of them.

they are quite demeaning if you actually know your stuff. alot of the seminars are very childish in the sense they are there merely to dilute anything you 'think you know'. Its not being bitter, its being honest.
Hell the "genius" i talked to about an issue with a MBP i had, was small talking and said yeah I never even touched a mac before working here and I just got trained in as a genius and it was clearly obviously he had no idea about some of the tech information I was asking him. nothing that was over the top or patronizing in that regard but legitimate inquiries, so maybe its good people with a true passion for this stuff dont bother wasting their time there at apple retail.

just get apple certified and contract yourself out.

So, yesterday I attended an Apple recruiting seminar. It went alright. Being a 17-year-old with little job experience, I was nervous. The people were really nice and, actually, kind of funny. It's impossible to say how I compared to the other candidates. I, most likely, know more about Apple than many of them. But, I have no sales experience while most of them did. How long does it generally take to receive an email asking you to come in for an interview?

Sorry about bumping the thread.

I attended an Apple Hiring Event today.

It was basically me with 12 other people, we did some group stuff, and we had to watch videos about Apple

I don't think I'll get through to the next stage; I didn't get told about the salary or anything like that, it seemed very vague.

Gotta wait until the weekend to find out if I move onto the next stage or something, but it's only retail I suppose.

Oh well, I've tried anyway.

"As you can imagine, we have received a large number of qualified applicants for this role. At this time we have chosen to move forward with other candidates that meet our current needs. We want to personally thank you for investing the time to speak to us about this opportunity. "
