I'm not sure why people keep missing this.

IT STATES ON THE APPLE SITE:

If you bought OS 3.0 for you touch - then you get 3.1 FOR FREE.

If you're still running 2.x - then it's $5.00 for the 3.1 update; which includes all 3.0 updates.

Reading comprehension, ftw.

He's complaining becuase he JUST bought 3.0. if he would have waited, he could have got 3.1 for $5, instead of paying $10 a few days before.

Bluetooth helps WiFi???

Can someone explain to me how having bluetooth turned on can improve WiFi performance?

Seems to me the only performance it will affect is the battery performance...negatively.

LOL, I don't think you read his post. READ very carefully

He said that anyone already on 3.0, they get 3.1 FREE

Anyone on 2.x can upgrade for only $5 and that includes 3.0

Um.. actually I think he's got it right. Suggest you re-read.

This person had 2.x and upgraded to 3.0 for $10 a couple of days ago. Yes he can go to 3.1 for free now, but he's already spent $10. Whereas if he'd just waited for a couple of days he would have spent $5 less and got 3.1

I apologize, I read his post and it didn't mention saving per your scenario, just that he was complaining that he just spent $10 to upgrade. it could've been interpreted both ways.

It won't. They are saying that there was an issue with WiFi while bluetooth was turned on and that issue has been fixed. So, WiFi is now improved when bluetooth is turned on. ;)

Ah. NOW I get it. Sorry, guess I'm a little slow today.

Seems it would've been easier to just say they fixed the WiFi/bluetooth bug, but I guess it wouldn't have sounded quite as impressive.

For the mobileme lock thing you can just bypass that through DFU :c Well i'll check just to be sure. Because if someone got my phone i don't want them ever using it >:c

woo hoo, 1 hour backups are now back with 3.1

I miss my speedy 1 minute backups, but since upgrading, it's back to the damn 1 hour backup problem.

I've connected and backed up twice so far. Both the initial backup and subsequent backup took about 10 seconds on my half-full 1G Touch.

MobileMe lock also works for iPod Touches that are logged in and connected via Wifi. If an app is open, the phone/touch goes right to lock, with the new code you enter at MMe.

A new tool to control my children. :)

i haven't downloaded it yet, but i know
- safari is snappier
- battery is better

It is, but they still haven't fixed that other speaker on the bottom. Still not working. And I still can't seem to send those picture message thingies that my friends do.

Home button is also snappier.

Keen to keep my unofficial O2 Tethering going for occasional GPRS email access (it's handy sometimes but not worth £10/month), so I'll wait and see how difficult the update makes this. Most recent posts sound promising though.

However, if I can send mail from mobileme aliases without workarounds, that might get me to sign up for 3.1. Anyone know if you can do this yet? (ie while keeping push on).

or did I pay $10 for 3.0 and if I would have waited $5 for 3.1:mad:

Yeah, but it is older tech now. Apple is always moving forward, and older products have to be dropped!

So let me get this straight. I paid 10.00 to upgrade from my 2.2.1 OS to the 3.0 OS and I could have waited literally two days and only paid 5.00 to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 3.1? That's BS!

But I intended on Jailbreaking so the point is moot, but it sucks for those who just barely upgraded/bought new iPod Touch's and did the 10 upgrade when they could have gotten it for 5.
Why are you complaining? Your iThing still does everything it did yesterday. You got exactly what you paid for. Apple has to make progress, and that means leaving older tech behind.

Yep, total ripoff. But I guess they figure they can charge a premium for doing the cropping for you.
Well, somebody has got to pay for all the innovation Apple does. And you've got to admit, playing songs when your phone rings is pretty advanced!@
