New update still hasn't fixed the 1 day out of birthdays in the Contacts App.

SFPD

So let me get this straight. I paid 10.00 to upgrade from my 2.2.1 OS to the 3.0 OS and I could have waited literally two days and only paid 5.00 to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 3.1? That's BS!

But I intended on Jailbreaking so the point is moot, but it sucks for those who just barely upgraded/bought new iPod Touch's and did the 10 upgrade when they could have gotten it for 5.

Imagine if you paid $600 for the Final Cut Studio 2 Upgrade, then two days later, FCS 3 Upgrade released for $300. It's five dollars..

woo hoo

woo hoo, 1 hour backups are now back with 3.1

I miss my speedy 1 minute backups, but since upgrading, it's back to the damn 1 hour backup problem.

Fetch.

Anyone know how you make one of those genius mixes? i'm in the iPod app but see no genius icon at the bottom?!

Could anyone post a screenshot - category top 25 - from the iphone app store? There is a new button "rewarding" at top?

Someone please check the volume of their speaker. That guy that posted a few pages ago talking about it sounds like a 2G has me worried, and im not upgrading until i hear it from a few people.

pleeeease, and thanks!

When I installed 3.0 on my 3G 16GB, WiFi stopped working (a bug a LOT of people had). It had something to do with Bluetooth being on the same antenna or something like that. Strange that I didn't have this problem with 2.x. So I waited till 3.1 came out trusting that Apple would see the large number of people having this problem and fix it. Well, for me anyway, it isn't fixed. Has WiFi performance improved for anyone on 3.1 who was having issues on 3.0?

Not that this has anything to do with 3.1, but I found after 3.0 I was equally wi-fi challenged (had to be within a meter of the router to get a signal bar on the iphone).

When I configured my router to be "G-only" as opposed to "G or N" suddenly my phone wifi came back to _nearly_ its original form. I have no idea why but it helped.

You may want to check that.

I had the O2 UK tethering hack installed on my non-jailbroken 16GB 3G. I just updated to 3.1 and tethering wasn't working.

I went to settings - general - network and there was no tethering option. I removed the O2 profile provided by the hack and the tethering option reappeared in network settings, but selecting it gave the message to contact O2 to enable tethering on the account.

I reinstalled the hacked O2 profile, back into network settings. As the page was displayed the 'set up internet tethering' option was visible for a split second before disappearing.

Looks like they've well and truly nobbled that hack. It was bound to happen I suppose. It hasn't exactly broken my heart. I'll just go back to using my 3 network mobile broadband USB dongle with my Macbook that is cheaper to use than the O2 tethering bolt-on. I just thought I'd post my experience in case anyone else uses it a lot.

I'm not sure why people keep missing this.

IT STATES ON THE APPLE SITE:

If you bought OS 3.0 for you touch - then you get 3.1 FOR FREE.

If you're still running 2.x - then it's $5.00 for the 3.1 update; which includes all 3.0 updates.

Reading comprehension, ftw.

Hmm... if 3.1.1 is iPod touch only, I wonder if 3.1.0 had a camera app for the 3rd-gen, when they had to scrap the camera at the last minute?

If they don't plan on adding a camera this year after all, and the iPhone losing AT&T exclusivity are true, then maybe they're going to phase out the iPod touch in favor of contract-free iPhones.

The ringtone thing still confuses the hell out of me.

Why is it you can buy a song for $0.99 but PART of the song costs $1.29?? I know it's still cheaper than most carrier ringtones ($4.00!! WTF!) but seriously, on my BlackBerry I just download the song (iTunes Plus, for example) then crop it and put it on my phone. That cost $0 more than the song.

Does it not seem obvious to everyone that ringtones are the same thing as music files? Gah!

Yep, total ripoff. But I guess they figure they can charge a premium for doing the cropping for you.

I'm still an iPhone noob, so I'll apologize for posting this if it's common knowledge, but here's how to create ringtones from your non-DRM music files.

Worked great for me.

Someone pointed this out on the iTunes 9 thread - but it would go better here.

You can put and play AppleTV spec encoded movies on the iPhone 3GS (dont have the other models to try but it works for me on the 3GS) YEAH!.
