I showed the Guided Tour Video to some friends this weekend. None of them had heard of Apple Vision Pro before.

They were BLOWN AWAY.

The excitement level was through the roof as they saw each new segment of the guided tour, and the whole video left them extremely eager to try it out for themselves.

It was a good reminder for me that anyone (myself included) who is "tech nerdy" enough to be on these forums doesn't have a good read on the pulse of the general public's opinion. I'd imagine Apple has a much better read on this than we do, and will be working hard on an awareness campaign for the masses in the months ahead, to keep drumming up excitement for the device.
I had the exact same experience. During halftime of the Chiefs-Ravens, I showed my guests the guided tour video, and they were all imagining how they could use this device. Asking questions of what it would be like on an airplane. But they were all in awe.

MacRumors is NOT representative of anything that exists in the real world. I'd imagine that the LAST place Apple pays attention to are these forums.

The hate for AVP is probably in part because a lot of people can't afford it. I bet if it cost $999, there would be a lot less hate and more enthusiasm. Hate often disguises people's shortcomings.
I can afford several, but I’m not getting one just yet. Not because of hate. I think it’s the most amazing thing Apple has done. I can’t wait for what the future brings with this if Apple does what it does best pushing the technology forward. I hope they don’t drop this and keep it going. Cant wait to see this 10 years from now. Then I’ll get it!

I have done research on TRUE AR and this is NOT it. I suggest you do research on what AR TRULY is, for example what XReal is doing with lightweight glasses that are miles ahead of the Vision Pro.

IF Apple has been collaborating with Standford’s AR/VR lab, what has come from it? What Vision Pro app, is the most compelling and interesting to you?
I was with you until the second sentence.
Pretty much the only thing the XReal is better at is form factor. But they get that by sacrificing pretty much every other property of the headset.

"miles ahead"
Do you not think Apple could have easily created something like the XReal glasses, which are much simpler in design than the Vision Pro? I guarantee that they've built prototypes that are similar to the XReal glasses. Apple simply decided that a bulky pass-through headset is so superior in so many other ways that it was a better option.

I do wish citysnaps would drop the Stanford thing. Citysnaps was predicting that Apple's device would be in a glasses form factor. Pretty much every prediction they made about Apple's device was wrong.

Apple today promoted the Vision Pro in a new video ad shared on its YouTube channel, ahead of the headset launching in the U.S. this Friday, February 2.

The ad demonstrates wearing the Vision Pro and navigating the visionOS operating system.

"Apple Vision Pro is here," the video description says. "Now, digital content blends seamlessly with your physical space. You can do the things you love in ways never before possible."

As noted by Dylan McDonald, this ad is a shorter and slightly modified version of a video that Apple originally showed at the end of its WWDC keynote last June, shortly after introducing the Vision Pro. It aired during today's NFL playoff games.

Why the heck did the lady wear it while packing her suitcase?

Why does anyone wear headphones while doing anything?

These are just headphones for your eyes. With transparency. Apparently very good transparency.

It's not really as big a leap as many are making out.
It is though. Obscuring your face (especially your eyes) the way this does is actually a pretty big deal for humans. It's the same reason it can be hard to read someone who's wearing dark sunglasses, or why people who don't meet your gaze in a conversation seem awkward or untrustworthy. This is a fundamental part of human interaction and communication that we've cultivated over thousands or millions of years.

I get that it's cool to position yourself as the super-casual, forward-thinking guy who can out-logic their own evolutionary coding like it's no big deal, but that doesn't get away from the fact this is going to make interacting with die-hard goggle people pretty awkward.

This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen from Apple. They honestly expect people to walk around in their daily routine with that heavy device strapped to their heads? We’re a decade away from a version of the Vision Pro that makes this commercial realistic.

They honestly believe that if they say it and show it enough they can make people believe it.

I’m not an Apple Vision Pro (TM) hater, but I agree this commercial is unrealistic.

The fun isn't in the video. The fun is relaxing in your own life. And if you have no vision for this product, then simply move on. I have a vision for this product. I'm comfortable in my own decisions.
I have plenty of fun in my own life, but thanks for the faux concern. Last I checked, discussing Apple and its products was the whole point of the this forum, but if you don't want to discuss them then I guess there are lots of other websites out there for you. I don't really know how else to help you here?

Where was the fun in the video? Maybe I blinked and missed it.

because they don’t need to hear outside at that moment

There are a few people on here who believe discussing products equals endless fawning praise. Hit the ignore button. They are beyond boring.

Only if it sells. So far all we’ve seen is that the built in fanbase jumped on board - as expected. It remains to be seen if anyone else is interested.
This version might not sell but I am sure Samsung and Google R&D is planning to release something in the next 1-2 years. Might not be as good as Apple but they will certainly have a single digit % marketshare. Oculus, PSVR, Vive didn't get popular because they only focus on gaming. AVP is focusing on everyday use. Big difference imo. AVP2 for $2000 will be a killer. iPhones sell for $1600 so $2k for a AVP Lite would sell like hotcakes once the ecosystem is there and public perception has changed.

This only tells me that not even Apple knows what it’s supposed to solve like so far it just seems like another passive consuming device, ironically lacking in the games department. Everything just floating 2D windows 😴

When will you even get the chance to watch a movie on your own on this thing unless you are single.

The ad makes it seem like it will be totally normal to walk around with those goggles on all day surrounded by your family when in fact (at least judging by my Quest 3), you make the conscious decision like „ok I am going to put it on for about an hour now while my wife is picking up the kids“. It’s way too „in your face“ (get it?) to just casually wear it all day and if you don’t wear it all day, you might as well just pick up that call on your phone like what are the odds to be wearing it in the exact moment you are receiving a call.

honestly, I would find it downright rude. I am not using my Quest 3 when my BF is home for example (unless we play a game in turns) because I don’t want him to feel ignored
I’m single and I can’t wait to watch movies on it! And how many couples have all the same interests? This would be the perfect device to watch movies on after one’s significant other goes to bed and you’ll get the full theater experience and disturb no one

Most people’s phone are subsidized by carrier. AVP is not.
