They certainly are you should do some research , but looking at your current location means you pretty much know jack since American Muscle , Chevvy , Camaro is all US folk is familiar with and they are losing even that market to BMW and Benz because alot of Americans got smarter and realised EU cars are the best. Mercedes is called the King of the Roads for a reason.

One more time an iPad is just an iPad. Repeat after me.

Living in the Middle East and seeing many wonderful cars I can certainly say that Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz don’t make the best cars in the world, they make good cars but far from the best. But like most things it comes down to individual opinion whether that be cars or iPads ;)

Worrying about resale value of depreciating luxury items is foolish.
I think it is a factor to think about when making a buying decision. Buy an iPad for 400 or some other tablet for 350 from another vendor? Maybe you get 200 for the iPad after two years, but only 100 for the device from the other vendor. But i agree on your point that an iPad is not an asset.

Well... Apple has just released their new iPad Pro and I’m speechless, if you were going to use this iPad as a computer you would need to get the bigger size, the keyboard case and the Apple Pencil, all of this would cost £1,287, yet I can go buy the new MacBook Air for £1,199 and that has a bigger display, a physical keyboard, Touch ID, 2 USB C ports compared to 1 and 128gb compared to the base model iPad Pro 12.9” at 64gb. This is absolutely outrageous Apple are charging more money for their iPads than for their laptops, I can’t tell you how angry I am, I feel like Apple are trying to rob me, they should of at least included the Appl pencil and or the keyboard case in the box, this makes me feel sick.

So then don’t buy it. If you want the full laptop experience there are lots of other options, including actual laptops!

All of the things listed are premium items in their categories. One was used simply as another example for premium pricing.

The rest of your generalisations are totally out of place.

And these kilobuck iPads are only as good as long as the battery holds up. Expensive high end audio that works for decades, yes. Expensive high end tablet with continually deteriorating battery, no. I’ll go regular iPad.

The same reservations could be raised against the battery of the cheaper iPad.

its getting harder and harder to spend money with apple, and it's not a lack of money, it's a lack of value for what ultimately will be business as usual and doing the same stuff once its purchased and set up.

I've never liked my Air 2, and have wanted to upgrade for a long time, but $800 to surf the web with 64GB? Probably another year of hard pass.

Oh, and considering the Air and Air 2 all had curves to their chassis from being so thin, it's only a matter of time until we see a thread next week saying their new pros are coming curved out of the box.

To be fair i have to say that the iPad batteries in my old iPad Air2 (gave it to my son) and the iPad Air of my wife are still in good condition.

Why not get a 2018 iPad with 128GB? It is definetly faster than the Air2.

I used to be able to buy a pretty specced out iPad for $750-900. After almost three years w my current Pro, I'm looking at a baseline $949 for a Wi-Fi only 256GB, $1,099 if I want to add cellular (I do like having the option) and if I want some extra storage to have this device hold me off upgrading a while, I'm looking at spending a whopping $1,149.

...that's the price of the new Air, and close to a MacBook. I do agree that they're getting greedier as the years go on, and everything seems to be getting pricier.

I'm thinking I might spring for the maxed out model, just so I don't have to upgrade in another two years and spend another grand.

Then you CANT afford it. People who can really afford it wont scoff at a price difference of 150-200$ over what they expected. If an extra $100-200 is the deciding factor over you buying it or not then you shouldnt be buying it.

This is a ridiculous and idiotic statement.

You can afford something, and still "scoff" at Apple's continuous increase in price over the past couple of years. If you have money, and you're smart with it, you start to question that extra $200, and change your purchasing habits accordingly.

Just remember they are charging more and more each year and you get the same s.hitty 10 hour battery from 2010. Either improve that or GTFO, Apple.

BTW I paid 829 for the 10.5, 256 GB, WiFi + cellular model... in BHPhotovideo. This was August 2017.

So don’t buy one. Problem solved.

That's very easy to say, but for some of us who have purchased multiple iPads and have integrated these devices into our lives, we're in need of certain upgrades, and today's prices are steep.

Almost all of Apple's products cost near, or above, $1,000 now. That's a huge difference than a few years ago when only Macs sold for $1,000+.

Big deal. Apple is not obligated to keep prices low simply to accommodate your needs.

Unless these “upgrades” you’re talking about are required to maintain life, there are other reasonable alternatives out there. Or, you can do without.

Ok, now i am curious. Why do you need several of the new iPad Pro’s?

Every Apple product released today is more expensive than the product it replaced. Every one. No exception.

Apple restrained from updating the MacBook Air and the Mac Mini for years and kept the ridiculous price, and now it raises the price to sound like the new model is a bargain. It is not.

Apple is just ripping off its consumers. The U.S. economy is booming and (some) Americans may be happy to pay a higher price for a product they feel is better (even though they replace a seriously outdated and overpriced one). For us, in the rest of the world, where the economy is not so strong, well, we will have to sell our kidneys, buy Apple's second-tier products, or give up on Apple.

Who is Apple trying to convince that the new MacBook Air is a bargain? You pay USD 100 less than the entry-level MacBook Pro, but you also get a slower processor and a worse screen (it is retina, but it does not seem to be 500 nit nor support P3 color).

The new Mac Mini is a joke. How can Apple possibly charge these prices for these small computers that do not even have a dedicated graphics card? Is Apple trying to convince anyone that an SSD is still so expensive these days?

As for the iPad, even the Apple Pencil and the Smart Keyboard are more expensive now. Apple is making good progress on its A-series processors, but the iPad is still a platform not as well developed as macOS or Windows. It is hard to justify paying USD 799 for a tablet with 64 GB that does not even come with the keyboard or pen(cil), and which would cost an additional USD 300 or so.

No, Apple, thanks, I will pass. I am not impressed at all. I am just annoyed that Apple is making those obvious upgrades, and wants to charge a premium over them. I am definitely not paying more for every advance Apple makes in its products.

The prices are higher, sure, and higher than I expected frankly. But this is Apple making its biggest push yet towards getting people to ditch their computer for an iPad. I don't remember ever seeing so many laptop comparisons. This is Apple's case for the iPad as a primary device. And in the main, I think they succeeded. The new keyboard case looks great, the new Pencil looks great, the software potential is very exciting (I'm itching to see what Procreate do)... good event as far as I'm concerned.

Additionally, I've had my 9.7" iPad Pro for over two years and the only thing pushing me to this upgrade is storage space. With a 256GB drive inside I anticipate this device will last me several years, as my 2014 MacBook Air has. Additionally, when my MacBook Air finally chokes one day, I don't anticipate I'll buy another Mac. I think I'm on iPads from now on.

No one is robbing anybody - you do realize that you DON’T have to buy it, right? You could always just go buy a MacBook Air? Or a Surface? Or any number of products on the market, if you don’t see value in the iPad Pro.

Omg. How dare a premium brand company charge premium prices for its top products. Lol.
