Do you think the first benchmarks are correct?

The Mac Mini can’t even power an external display via Thunderbolt 3?
That YouTuber is showing it’s jittery af

Steam seems to work - yay.
but they can’t get any games to work in the stream - :(

Probably some issue with crappy Steam coding as usual. It's like Steam bugging out on Big Sur beta, because it didn't realize that "macOS 11" is better than "macOS 10.15".

I'm sure that it will get patched within a couple of days.

Yeah, steam have all sorts of things going on when starting a game within the client so to add Rosetta2 in that probably need a fix .

The most in-depth review is in another language and pretty much everything else I've seen are unboxing videos (come on now kids, we've seen these things before) or chaotic video export tests.

I'm slowly dying inside. I need more information.
Can I get a link to that review?

Must watch

I see, they are running the tests without the minimal test duration. Then I am not surprised at 4800U winning. Its essentially running at 30-40 watts power, so no wonder it's the same result as a 4800HS.

A couple of days? You're optimistic. I don't think anyone is steering the Valve ship. It simply drifts. Do they even know about the new Macs?

Well, they did fix the Big Sur version detection bug in under a week. And that was for a dev beta. Considering how good these new Macs are going to be with games, there will be considerable pressure on Steam to improve the Mac experience.

Has anyone said anything about the viability of 8GB RAM in this new setup?
Also waiting for this. I've got a 16GB on order, arriving in 2 weeks, but I'll head down and get an 8GB model now if it's obvious 16GB on M1 is overkill for light-medium usage (particularly Chrome + Superhuman + Slack, which are absolute memory hogs).

I'm F5ing macrumors like a sociopath.
Feed me numberz.
Benchmarkz.

I also wonder if the 16 gigs are overkill.
Definitely not with intel chips.
The +200€ makes the bill jump on such a "cheap" machine.
However hopping that the unified memory is more than just a bs commercial term.

Anyone wants to know how long a base model M1 MacBook Pro takes to boot up to login screen, took me roughly 10 seconds. ???

Sleep to wake is instant, open the lid just a little bit and the screen is on.

is it fair to say since these initial reporting is being with 8GB, there will be a slight bump with more ram?.... since the memory is unified the 16 gb version could do better in certain benchmarks? not sure what CineBench uses memory wise but in theory the GPU will have more memory to work with as well in the 16 GB version?

I really want to see idle power usage for the Mac Mini. I wonder if it can get to Raspberry Pi levels of always on idle usage for a home server. The 2018 due to the desktop chips was a big jump in performance power usage.
