I ordered my base spec MBP Friday morning with dates of Dec 1-8. It has been in “preparing to ship” since Saturday morning. Is this a good thing?

Just got an update mine has just left China? Ugh!
I think that means the item is already on a plane to ANC. There's one in the air that lands at about 11:30 AM AKDT. I'll bet you (we) show a stop in Anchorage on tracking about then.

It looks like items sit in post-"Export Scan" waiting for their turn on a plane. In the case of mainland US via UPS - a flight from Shanghai to Anchorage. It looks like that process takes about a day or so.

From a logistics point of view, I wonder if UPS simply forwards all cargo from ANC to their main hub, or if the west coast (including BC?) content gets diverted.

FYI UPS showing Monday 11/16 delivery compared to 11/24-11/27 on initial order.

Yeah it goes from ANC to Louisville, KY (their main hub) and then split again to regions (your closest region hub, on Air) rest is ground. (this is based on tracking the 12 Pro/Mini)

I’m not sure. That flight left 4.5 hours ago and that update said it left the facility an hour ago. We shall see what the updates are later today.

I ordered MBP 256GB/16GB a few hours after shop went online, still on processing. Kinda sad seeing how everyone seems to have their Macs on their way to AK :( Delivery date on Apple Store is "Nov 25 - Dec 3", hope it doesn't take that long

I having a feeling that the 16GB computers aren't as readily available. I could be mistaken... yours will probably still ship a bit sooner than quoted though. Apple underpromises and overdelivers, mostly.
Nice to see you from the iPhone forum - guess we are hoping to track our M1 device just like the iPhone tracking!

FYI - Just took a look at the invoice. And even on the invoice, Apple fails to mention the clock speed! LOL!

and this is very different from the invoice you get if you order an Intel-based Mac:

My MacBook Air (ordered November 11th, in the morning) has cleared customs in the US so I have a complete record to this point for people who want to compare their progression:

Mac Mini M1 base. Ordered within 1 minute of availability. Still processing, still not charged, November 19 delivery.

While excited, I’m obviously feeling a bit discouraged

I know it is Hell waitingo_O. Take solace in the fact you've got a November date. Some of us are into December. In fact close to X-Mas. I haven't fell this expectant since I was a kid....many, many years ago.

Ordered the Pro and Air and was going to decide once reviews came out this week as my delivery dates were the end of November. Of course the Pro shipped on Friday and I think I really want the Air. So now I wait.

An update: I ordered the base model M1 Air the evening it was released and it originally said it would deliver 11/17-11/18 and I just got the delivery notice from UPS saying it will deliver by end of day tomorrow! (11/16) Shipped UPS Worldwide Express Saver, 2.4KG, it passed through customs at 10:05AM 11/15/2020.

So excited!

Update:
Just got the notice from UPS, the delivery date changed from today to tomorrow between 9:00am & 1:00pm AZ time. Kind of bummed. But excited to get it tomorrow!

Did you check on UPS for tracking?

I am in a similar situation. I can only see something if I search for references number (my order number minus one digit). Apple still says processing and hasn’t issued a tracking number yet.

Is it certain that this is my delivery or someone else?
