Further, we also notice that the dates keep going back. 12 September 2012 > 10 September 2013 > 9 September 2014 > 9 September 2015 > 7 September 2016.

I'm putting my money on Sept. 6. Further the MWC date has been known for a few months now, so Apple must have been aware of it. Unless they don't give a **** ...

it would make sense if it's the 6th with your theory of the dates going back, the 6th is a Wednesday and within Apple's usual Tuesday - Wednesday event frame (at least for iPhone announcements). Tho the 12th has been mentioned but I'm not sure how reelable this rumours is, last year Even Blass leaked the date and he was correct.

But that's going to be a friday....

Apple likes everything to go in sync from what I noticed during the years. They never said: "we do events on wednesday's or thursdays's". They also never said: "We will always make new design on a number release, and we will never update the design on an S release". So people shouldn't be counting those as some kind of evidence in my opinion.

That one is easy. iPhone 7 was 7th September. iPhone 8 - 8th of September.

I'm skeptical of them calling it the iPhone 8 at all, to be honest. This seems like a good cycle to change their naming scheme, since the numbers aren't really sustainable (no one is going to say "I have the iPhone 17S"). The iPhone 8 designation, as far as I know, hasn't seen any confirmation in leaks. It's just the name people have given this new model of iPhone.

I think they are going back to just the iPhone. It's the 10th anniversary so it's time to go back to the beginning, the start of a new technological era marked by AR.

I agree. Only issue is the terminology would get messy when discussing different generations of iPhones (e.g., "What iPhone do you have? Mine is from two years ago"). The numbers make it very easy to "rank" iPhones when talking about them, but they also imply a whole lot of erroneous information (iPhone 7 isn't the seventh iPhone, for example).

At the very least I see them ditching the current pattern of Number-->NumberS, and the sooner they do it, the better.

Has the "iPhone 8" entered mass production yet? I'm seeing conflicting reports with some stating that mass production has started (Digitimes early August), while others (Kuo) state that final verification will happen at the end of August, with the iPhone 8 entering mass production during the third week of September.

Would this mean the iPhone 8 being delayed or available at launch?

With the leaks of part pictures recently, I'd guess its entered mass production now.

This was my original thinking. But it's possible now the KeyNote might be on the 12th according to the latest rumors. So if the invitations do not disseminate shortly this week, then it will be later.

I think the invites will go out tomorrow or Tuesday if it's the 6th. If not then it will be the week after I think, if I'm correct that is? Last year I think they sent invites out a week before on the Monday.

Last year, the invites were sent out on Monday, August 29. So they very well could launch this coming Monday. But I would expect sometime this coming week we should see a confirmation of this.

I'm not expecting it, but I'd like to see Siri be vastly improved/updated for the iPhone 8.

I always did find it amusing if they went on sale on September 12th. It's probably why I ended up upgrading, I think I got one of my devices online on that date. Birthday present to myself.

Nothing wrong with upgrading and gifting yourself an iPhone. I find that to be a nice gift indeed.
