Didn't want to start a new thread for this but I'm curious about launch day availability.

In the UK I've always been able to pre-order an unlocked device for launch day, but I'll be in New York later this month and wanted to pre-order an unlocked iPhone (X/Pro/Edition - whatever) and have it shipped to my hotel.

I'd read that last year with the 7 the unlocked phones were released earlier. Any ideas if I might be able to pre-order the device next week? Was that possible last time round?

Failing that, I'll be back in America in November and might order later and have it held at somewhere like Shipito.

It's a shame that the US carriers have been able to restrict access to unlocked phones in the past but it sounds like it got a bit better last year. Here's hoping it's better still this time around

Also, if I order a T Mobile version - does that come unlocked? I know that drawback was that it was the Intel model with the 7 but I'm never likely to use Verizon anyway so that might work too

I agree with Evan Blass here on the preordering and shipping dates. He was accurate with other past predictions as well.

Yea he was very accurate last year with both the event and pre-order dates. I'm looking forward to being online at 8am (here in the U.K) to pre-order an iPhone 8 (Edition, X, whatever it's called) i just hope i don't have the same issue as last year where by the time the page had come up the date's had already slipped :( i eventually got my Jet Black iPhone 3-4 weeks i think it was!

I'm not sure if with the iPhone 8 (Edition, X, whatever it's called) being more expensive at £1000 that will put people off and therefore it won't sell out as much/as fast as the 7s and 7s Plus will.

When I ordered my iPhone 7 last year, it was strange, it went immediately from processing my order directly to preparing for shipment within 12 hours. I Pre-ordered within two minutes after the website went live, and I couldn't believe how fast I received my iPhone last year compared to others. So I think it's dependent on which model, storage and overall how quickly you get your pre-order in.

I couldn't get on at first and had to refresh the page a few times, I went for the Jet Black 128GB so that could be why.

I ordered the 7 Plus in Gold and 4.7 in silver. Not very popular colors and I ordered the base storage, so that's a big reason why I received mine quickly. Jet Black had a huge demand.

Yea the jet black was in huge demand last year, I wonder if it will be the same again this year but with the iPhone 8 (Edition, X or whatever).

Why not ??? old model using 3 yrs ahead .... you dont bored ?????

If I don't get the "iPhone 8" I'll probably be upgrading from a 6 to the "7s+".
The increased size will be enough of a change for it to feel new to me.

This is my first purchase so I'm not too familiar how things work. I want to buy it in store. What's the availability like the first days, for example, if I'm not able to go on launch day (I may not be in town that week), will there be stock the next few days or weeks or will it become unavailable for the next weeks after launch day?

As I say I don't want to order online, I want to go to the apple store myself.

If you truly want the iPhone, you'd be better off pre ordering online. There's no telling just how much supply could be strained, so it doesn't really make sense to wait try your luck in store after the launch.

Thanks, but as this will be my first iPhone I want to make it special. I'm ok with waiting a couple of weeks as long as it's not months.
