Folks…..this App must of somehow just got accidentally released. It was a summer project for one of their grade-school interns. Not to worry. Apple would never release anything this bad.

P.S. Pretty good stuff though for a 12-year old.
Lol you're spot on about this being impressive for a 12-year old. I'm a fan of Apple products, but this is a garbage app. I downloaded it, played around with it for a minute, saw there isn't an option to add your favorite NFL teams, deleted the app. I'll stick to Sports Alerts.

I kind of hate the fact that this thing exists.

As a developer who has been thinking about leaving the startup world in favor of indie app development… god what's even the point in trying to make new products, the FAANGs sherlock and eat everything.
Get better ideas then. Apple isn't sherlocking anything with this app. If anything, it's removing all the bloat and garbage from the ESPN, CBS SPorts and Yahoo Sports apps of the world.

Wrong answer. Tennis and golf are major international sports. So is auto racing. This app is unfinished and should never have been released as-is. Of course, all of the Apple apologists will see it otherwise.

Look, I’m not an Apple hater. Take a look at the gear in my signature. But the company needs calling out when it screws up.
So if they don't add every sport known to man regardless of popularity right at the get-go it's "unfinished & never should be released as-is"?

I downloaded it and will use it since all other sports apps are bloated with ads or have an ugly UI.

But this seems like a Google app release - ship it out before it's complete. How does it not even have support for live activities, when those live activities are already in existence for some sports in the Apple TV+ app?

Fast Company says the app supports Live Activities but it hasn't been confirmed or verified by others yet. I guess I'll know in a few minutes when the Liverpool game kicks off: https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...-focused-on-simplicity-says-eddy-cue.2420077/

Complete rubbish. If they’re going to make an app, at least make sure it’s comprehensive in its coverage, otherwise people tracking games/teams in lower league need a second app (which will likely be comprehensive, making the Apple one redundant). In the UK you have to cover at least the 4 top football leagues in England and the top one or two in Scotland. Otherwise it’s pointless. I imagine the same applies in France, Germany, etc.

i was just thinking I needed a simple text website to see sports scores/box scores. I go to ESPN and it is a chore because of all the clicking needed to read something simple and the loading between each page is obnoxious. The newspaper used to let me read a bunch of box scores on one page. The internet computer world has gotten so bloated.

but I don't want to see scores in real time or at least have the ability to not because I often watch stuff delayed.

But for a place to look up box scores for say an NBA game....if it's quick and comprehensive enough I will use it. Feel like it won't quite be comprehensive enough. We'll see.

I am worried about Apple wasting time/effort with sports. In the worst case some of that might creep into Apple One subscription.

Update: Liverpool game just started and the only Live Activity that shows up is the one that's been launching automatically for followed teams that comes from the Apple TV app. I'm sure that's what Fast Company was getting confused with as there's no setting for Live Activities with this app, nor are you even asked to enable notifications when you first launch it.

To no surprise, it is pulling from the exact same data source that the Live Activity play by play does when you look at it within the app.

The UI is very nice though, especially if you like clean and no-frills. Being able to turn off the betting crap is nice too.

As will I too

I actually deleted ESPN in the process of getting this app in the hopes that it would be my replacement for it; FARRR from it (at least for now)

I for the time being at least switched to Sports Alerts, got all my favorite teams' notifications configured to my liking; now I'm looking forward to seeing how the dynamic island comes into play, especially if there are multiple teams of my favorites that so happen to be playing at the same time

On a side note with that Sports Alerts app, while I have all my favorites configured on the phone side, on my Watch, they don't seem to show and it seems that you can only configure the watch favorites on a per-league basis; so far, unless I'm missing something as to how to configure just a team on there as a favorite, pretty solid app thus far

Another thing we won’t see here in the Netherlands, like Apple News, Apple Fitness, precipitation warnings etc. If the main language in your country is not English, Apple simply deems you a lesser person.
A lesser person or a person from the country that the company doesn't originate in? Seems a bit extreme. I can understand anyone not in the US wanting all of the features that a US based company releases as soon as possible, but just logic would indicate that since it isn't their primary market that things won't happen at the same pace and has nothing to do with people being "lesser" or "greater"

Also, beyond where the company is based, there is also economics to consider. Since they are a business who is looking to stay in business and generate revenue and then profit, they are going to want to take advantage of where they can get the best return on the expenditure of effort. The US market is saturated with people who spend a lot of money on many things. If you are going to argue about "lesser" you would actually maybe need to consider the opposite since the spenders in the US are often making poor decisions about spending money and thereby enticing businesses for focus their efforts in that market.

Or they just don't find it worth the investment in terms of potential revenue.

Added MLB and it says "The 2024 MLB Season starts tomorrow"

Sweet, this app came with time travel!

EDIT: CAUSE PEOPLE CAN'T STOP REPLYING WITH IT. I KNOW SPRING TRAINING STARTS TOMORROW. SPRING TRAINING IS NOT THE 2024 SEASON.
Only to you my boi. The season begins when Spring Training begins.
