No one knows for sure where its going to be....However apparently chinook is expanding and building another section. Which means if apple is moving in the new section its going to be a awhile as they haven't even broke ground yet. I don't think it would be in this new section but you never know.

I grew up in Calgary. I have never been happier since I moved away from there! It's a cold and boring hell. Maybe the apple store will make the oil people happier.

Well the weather has been lame lately. Snowing like mad, then a sunny spring day the next. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

meh, I think I've got one more year left of this city and then it's time to move on. I'm getting sick of fighting with the booming population for basic services like doctors and a like. I wouldn't call the highest inflation in Canada "great"

but that's just me

As of today, Apple has removed even the word "Alberta" from the pull down menu on its job website. It doesn't look good folks.

NOT GOOD! But I had a feeling this would happen. As Chinook is getting a new wing. So I bet apple wants to be in that wing, and that wing hasn't even started yet. So they might be putting it on hold. :(

Has anyone heard anything on this? Is the store coming or going? I know sephora is all setup in its space ready for opening in the fall apparently.. But las ttime I was in Chinook I didn't see anything to indicate apple had snaged a store spot. Do you think that with the lack of employees in calgary that apple couldn't fill their spots? Or maybe chinook wanted too much money?
If they do get into the new wing, maybe they're wanting a custome space...
arg, I just want to have apple here where I live

I have a feeling they are going into the new wing which hasn't even broken ground yet. Which means apple can't really expect people who apply last november to still be willing to work for them 1-2 years from now. So its not worth collecting possible employee info yet.

Hey guys so I was looking around on the Apple site and I did find this:
http://www.apple.com/ca/support/products/premium/onsite.html

If the Covered Equipment is located within a 100-mile (United States) or 160 km (Canada) radius of the following cities, and Apple makes a determination that repair service is required before 1:00 p.m. local time on a business day, in most cases, Apple will deliver On-Site Service to the location within four (4) hours of the dispatch. For the same locations, if the need for repair service is determined after 1:00 p.m. local time, in most cases, On-Site Service will be delivered no later than 12:00 p.m. the following business day.

United States
Atlanta, GA
Boston, MA
Chicago, IL
Dallas, TX
Denver, CO
Houston, TX
Los Angeles, CA
Miami, FL
Minneapolis, MN
New York City, NY
Portland, OR
Sacramento, CA
San Franciso, CA
Seattle, WA
Washington DC

Canada
Calgary, AB
Montreal, QC
Ottawa, ON
Toronto, ON
Vancouver, BC

I am not sure if this means anything, since Vancouver is on this list though. Could there be a Apple corprote post or something.

Downtown?

I was visiting Calgary a few weeks ago and noticed this huge building-high iPod Ad in Red on one of the buildings downtown. I didn't investigate, but the building was definitely under construction. Does anybody think this will be the Apple store?

I know there's been a lot of discussion about it being in a mall but Apple usually likes to make major landmark stores, especially when working in new markets and areas.

Sorry about the crappy picture, you can make out the Apple logo and the dancing iPod guy. It was downtown probably...5th street? I'm only estimating I don't know Calgary very well.

Nope, that's the Theatre Junction building, it's been going under renovations for quite a while now and that one side of the scaffolding has had a number of different ads on it from GM trucks to Budwieser beer.

not so

I work at Williams Sonoma in Chinook and the sign on the newly renovated space next door says " Bebe" - not quite an apple store.

apple store

The store beside Williams Sonoma says "Bebe" on the hoarding - not Apple = perhaps in the new renovation?

Apple store in Calgary

Guys if you needed confirmation of where the Apple store is in Calgary its actually already opened inside of the Deerfoot Meadows Futureshop.

I spoke to the guy there that is employed under Apple Canada and he says that based on demographics and overall market demand in Calgary, Apple couldn't justify opening a full blown store but instead leased some space to set up their own Kiosk inside of Futureshop. I guess the inventory is owned by Futureshop but the Apple guy there is hired by Apple.

So I guess to sum it up the Apple store here is really an Apple Kiosk with an Apple products expert.

That is what I witnessed myself this past weekend.

NO Apple store in Chinook Centre

Apple Store not in Chinook Centre. I work in the Centre and I can honestly varify that there is NOT an Apple store currently in the centre or are there plans to have one in the Centre.

At one point there was a plan to put one in Chinook center because apples website said so. But that would be very hush hush anyway. It still could be going into the new section of Chinook when that is built. Or possible the new mall going in up north.

Oh man! I can't wait for this to open! As great as Westworld has been over the past few years, I'm excited to see what all the fuss around these Apple stores is about. And as someone from Edmonton, I have a personal satisfaction that we are going to get it before Calgary... (Childish I know, but I can't help it :p)

hahah let the Alberta rivalry begin. You guys may get one first, but i have this feeling that ours will be bigger. And besides we will have a bigger mall then you guys in due time.
