Ahhhh! Patiently trying to wait for the Back-to-School offer to get the free iPod Touch as well. Last year it happened on May 25. Think Apple is nice enough to coincide it with this release? I'm cautiously optimistic. If not, it's like watching all your friends open their Christmas presents and you have to wait three more weeks;)

Not a big deal on a desktop.

Agree. is 2011 this year. Come on people!! Let's move on.
However, I have a funny feeling that Apple might kill it until next year.
I won't buy any MacBook Pro or iMac with a DVD drive. I love my MacBook Air
I want a thinner iMac :D

My problem with DVD drives in laptops is that they take up to much space. Space that could be put to better use for other things. For example a discrete GPU in the 13" MBP.

In a desktop like the iMac it is a toss up. It would be neat to see a half length PCI Express slot in the iMac though. Or space for more internal storage. Honestly though it isn't a big deal.

is the 6770m, gpu,is the m for mobile,ie laptop gpu,
i hope this time they put in really good gpus,
its the only thing that really lets imacs down a little bit,
sure they are ok,the latest models, but they could be a lot better,
afterall, why bother putting a great cpu in,if you dont match it with a great gpu, yes?

stil, its always exciting when stuff gets released.

But if it did'nt have mobile gbu, it would be thick as a door, or like a old
CRT fat-screen, would you like that?

Maybe it isn't worse, but it's worth much less after just a month of ownership. That kinda sucks.

The only reason I held back was the thunderbolt since I plan to keep the iMac for at least 3 years, during which time I believe lots of TB solutions will come out. Performance wise, I don't think is going to be a revolution. The only thing that sucks was having to wait for a month or two.

We're never going to see a half length PCI-e card in an iMac. That would require the port to either come out the side or the bottom, neither of which apple would ever do.

CMD+R ftw!

It's all just publicity. Apple can update the store quickly and silently if they have to (they already did in the past).

The staff need to be briefed on the new products. Apple doesn't do this in advance to help keep leaks at bay.

Yeah, well then how about having to wait until Black Friday in order to be able to afford a 27 "?
I won't surrender to a 21.5 today, I've given my word ... to myself :p

Probably not. I wonder if an external device using TBolt might be able to utilize PCI-e cards through iMac, though. I don't have any idea of how the architecture would work, or if it is possible.

Man if this is true the 21" is really getting screwed.

The specs were already posted:

21.5″ / 3.2GHz Core i5 / 4GB / 750GB / ATI Radeon HD 5630 512MB $1199
21.5″ / 3.6GHz Core i5 / 4GB / 1.5TB / ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB $1499
27″ / 2.8GHz Quad-Core Core i5 / 4GB / 1.5TB / ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB $1699
27″ / 3.3GHz Quad-Core Core i5 / 8GB / 1.5TB / ATI Radeon HD 6850 1GB $1999

The low end machine you kinda expect a dual core. But a quad core 21" machine would be extremely welcome by many. Also seems strange that there are no i7's in the line up.

Those specs are incorrect. It appears as though the specs. by "Mr. X" are more correct, with the i7-2600 3.4GHz i7 at the top-end and quad-cores across the entire lineup. However, we will have to see if these verify.

You know, come to think of it...

I'd love to have a Drive free Laptop. I don't use it as much as I thought I would, in fact, if I had a wireless flat (airmac) DVD superdrive on my desk, I would be happy. DVDs are ok but since it's now a dated format compared to BDs, I think maybe, it would be nice to put new technology into these machines. Say 3G wireless devices etc.

No clue I'm sure Steve Jobs has some great ideas.

That was fake man .. you should read more from the source. That was April fool´s joke

Of course it's fake, no way the base 27 iMac gets the old 5 series graphic cards

I hope they drop DVD drives.

When it comes to laptops, removing the DVD drive has the benefit of being able to add something else like a larger battery. However, i don't see much benefit on a desktop computer. What would they do with the extra space?

Personally i hardly ever use my iMac's disk drive, and I could do without it. I'm sure that's not the case with everybody though. DVDs could go away sometime in the future, but not in the next couple of years. Too many people still use them

Anyone want to speculate as to why the top end iMac has a different model number? Have we seen that sort of disparity in a lineup before?
