As much as I miss my dearly departed Mac Pro I may sell its replacement, a 2012 2.6 mini purchased in October and get another 5,1. Having had a 2012 2.3 since January I got all caught up in the frenzy and snagged one of B&H's last 2.6s. Some day I'll learn how to make up my mind.

Looks like there will be a good market for 2.6 minis.

I'll say! A 2012 2.6 Mini is a little mobile beast but it doesn't hold a candle to a 5,1 multi-core Xeon powerhouse than can accept 48 Gb RAM, 4 PCIe slots (full-szie GPU), 6 SATA bays (including 2 optical bays), easy-opening access to Mobo, quiet fan and power supply to run it all! A quick little motorbike is not a Porsche!

Missed out!

I had set up an alert on refurbme for the 2.6 i7 but I did not get an alert.

Looks like this site is more reliable :)

I think Apple is secretly watching me with a drone and putting mini's on the refurb store when it sees I'm no where near a computer.

I snagged a 2012 quad i7 2.3GHz Mini Server quite by accident. I clicked the link for the Mini referbs, and came up empty (as usual) ... but, for some unknown reason I clicked "refresh" before leaving the site, and to my amazement there were now many models showing, so I impulse bought the server one.

Keep trying ... and good luck!

Thanks for the find but ill wait around a little longer and try to snag a 2.6 i7.

My local best buy has an open box 2.3 i7 at a good price but for my photo and video needs i'd like to have that extra 10% in cpu power.

You may benefit from a Retina iMac if you're going to be doing a lot of video/photography work.

You are completely right but i'm not kidding anyone nor myself. I'd love to have a full spec RiMac but I currently do not have the 3K+ to swing it and if I did my wife would have something to say about it lol.

What I want is a base late 2012 2.6 i7 Mini. I'll upgrade the ram and add an ssd. I'll use 2 Dell 2412m monitors and i'll be fine. Ive used these displays and i'm ok with them.

What I am upgrading from...... A G5 iMac :) Yes sir... (Gimp)

It does lag a little but does word processing and web browsing ok.
Its 10 years old and a 2012 i7 should feel like a corvette in comparison.

Also i'm tired of having to go over to my brothers house and use his computer for the heavier editing.

Don't feel bad. I'm still running a G4 Mac Pro Quicksilver on System 9 here. My 2009 C2D Mac Mini with 4 Gb RAM and 5400 HDD shreds it.

Just give me a base model 2.3GHz QC i7!

I just want the base model 2.3GHz i7. That's all I'm after. Seems like I'll have to have to pounce on it.

In the meantime, it's interesting that in terms of dual-core machines, the 2014 minis aren't a bad, but in terms of being a step down from previous models in terms of dual-2.5"-drive options and quad-core, these are a step down and thusly we're all trying to pounce on Quad-core i7 models as soon as they're up.

How likely is it that more quad core 2012's will appear in the UK refurb store? I'm assuming now its pretty slim :(

Might be like McDonald's and their McRib sandwich.
I have a running joke that each time they bring it back I say that they must have found another warehouse full of them.

Maybe Apple will find a big stack of 2012 mini's they misplaced.

Still no quads or any mini to speak of in my alerts. Perhpas the new year they're ight be sme post sales and drips and drabs over the year.

Lots of macbooks and macbooks airs.... tempted I am!

Oh right maybe they sell so quick they don't even get picked up by the tracking websites? Is that even possible?

This is a backup option for those unable to get refurb Minis. The MBA (airs) are pretty similar in capability. You can plug an external monitor into an Air also.

Also, 2.3 GHz quad core i7 Mac Mini servers (4GB RAM/dual 1TB HDDs) are still available on Apple's clearance site...
