Some questions on the fans to the owners of the Studio Display: How audible are the fans in the display? Do they spin up to faster RPMs if the display has been in use for longer periods or stay more or less at the same RPM/volume constantly? Do they automatically power down when the display is not in use?

Asking because this is honestly the first ever display I've ever heard of having fans to begin with, and being somewhat sensitive to noises would hate to introduce anything to the desk setup that's a source for "noise pollution"…

(And yeah, there's the additional "electrical buzz" issue which is a bit worrying in this regard, but wanted to understand the normal operating volume as well…)

I don't hear the fans at all on my unit.

Barely audible even when I put my ear right to it on a warm day!

+1 for the fan noise here as well, though I don't really use mine much and the heat we've been having here in the UK has me wondering if they come on if the display is off but with power still supplied to it in "standby"

I'm a worrier though...

Own a Studio Display since last November as it is a pretty nice display.
One thing I noticed today (and I assume to be normal, just checking with you guys):
Since it's very hot right now here in Portugal (temperatures between 30-40 degrees Celsius, my Apple Studio Display is a bit warmer and I notice that when facing the display, the right side (where the USB-c/ThunderBolt ports are is a bit warmer than the left side (and you can also notice if you put your hand or if you place it right above the upper exhaust holes, right above the fan positions, the right one is blowing a bit mor warmer air than the left one).
Can you really confirm?
I can only assume that the components that generate more heat should be positioned on the right side...
Other than that, it is not overheating at all.
Just noticed this today because the day is being by far the warmer day of the year (and the warmer day since I bought the Studio Display)

Yep same on mine. Guess the PSU is located there or something.

+1, and I’m very sensitive to noise.

Especially glad to hear this comment from another self-confessed noise-sensitive dweller! And thanks for chipping in, everyone! Seems like I "only" need to worry about the electrical buzz when it comes to noise with the Studio Display 😅

Is it expected that the next version of the Studio Display will include a stand that allows for rotation?

It's frustrating that the Pro Display XDR stand offers this option, but the Studio Display stand does not.

Is there a free equalizer app that would allow us to reduce the bass of the audio coming out of the Studio Display? Just picked mine up - love it but would like to reduce bass if possible.

I wouldn’t expect that since you have that option with VESA mount today.

True. But the Pro Display XDR has options for both a VESA mount and for a stand that allows for rotation. So I'm hoping the Studio Display soon offers the same.

It is interesting that, while not supported by either of the two desktop stands, the Studio Display supports auto-rotation in macOS. I've got two VESA mount Studio Displays, and it tells macOS what orientation it's in and will auto-rotate the desktop when the display is rotated.

They must've been expecting a large portion of ASD buyers to go with the VESA mount option. Arms have become more common in offices over the years (which is why you can get a good high end one for cheap on eBay from liquidators) so it wouldn't be too surprising if a lot of corporate buyers especially buy the VESA version.

Hi everybody,
i am planning for a mac studio m2 ultra and a studio display. Do you know, if there are any problems
when connecting both via thunderbolt. Does the studio display have a power connector ? At the apple website a
cable for power is not being listed for delivery.
Thank you !

Best regards,
Schnitzel

ASD arrives with power cable attached and a thunderbolt cable in the box.

It's funny. I have two tilt stand and one VESA. I thought I'd use the VESA one in portrait for reading (e.g. NYT) but my OCD is such that I can't rotate it!

Exactly. I mean, I get that this functionality is still useful for folks who use VESA mounts, but you'd think they'd also want to allow users who purchase their stands to take advantage of it. Especially as their Pro Display XDR stand offers this functionality. Anyway, hopefully this points to them introducing Studio stands in the future that allow for this. 🙏🏼
