I bought a ASD in January, just want to say that is my most favourite display to date (the second one is the LG Ultrafine 24-inch).

I just hope the next generation will have Mini-LED & ProMotion (and hopefully an HDMI port for my PS5, which is highly unlikely)

Do you notice any high pitch noise or buzzing as mentioned by other reviewers?

I was a bit concerned about that as well. I just got one, and it's silent in my environment (I'm super sensitive to this type of noise).

Other people had mentioned it happened with some types of other electric devices on the same power circuit, but it's not clear whether this is correlation or causation. In any case, just get one, test it in your room, and worst case you can always replace or return it.

I had major noise problems in my old (1890s) house with layers and layers of wiring, made significantly worse when the house mini splits were operating. My new house (1940s) has much newer wiring and I hear no noise from my new studio display. Even when the mini splits are running.

You would be crazy to spend $1500 on a display and not plug it into a power surge protector with a built-in fuse/breaker.

Does anyone in the UK know if there are any good deals on atm, I waited to long for the amazon deal which was £1325 for a long time and its gone crazy now :( - Just want the VESA version.

Does the UK have any other 5K or 6K alternatives to apple? - the Samsung one is nearly the same price so no reason to get that

Not exactly a deal, but Costco have them for 1399. That's 50 pounds above Apple's edu discount price, but you get a 90 day return period and 2 full years of warranty, whereas Amazon and the rest all give you one. So all things considered its probably the best option. Needs a membership, but the online only one is 15 pounds a year.

I couldn't see them in stock in Costco last time I looked - Amazon dropped to £1399 so got a VESA one to go along the stand one. I do hope they refresh the XDR display at some point, but I guess USBC is rate limited now right so we aren't going to get 6k 120hz for a long time till the bandwidth increases

Now that the Thunderbolt 5 support is out for M4 Pro and above, there is hope for a ProMotion Studio Display.
XDR might come first.
They sell the Thunderbolt 5 cable already

Yes, but:

60 Hz @ 6K

Maybe the reason is: There is NO ONE 6K Display in the world that supports more than 60hz, YET! ;)
Maybe that's the reason, yes.

BTW for 120 Hz @ 6K 80 Gbps should be enough (and TB5 supports up to 120), there's a calculation:

If Apple is going to introduce an updated XDR, it should be like MBP XDRs - miniLED backlight and ProMotion with backward compatibility 60 Hz for pre-TB5 devices. And thinner of course. And for $6999, just for sake of inflation.

Ich hope that also Dell and other Display vendors will release updated models of their 6k Monitors or they will release complete new models, in 5K/6K/7K or 8K :) With, of course 120Hz and please in Glossy!

i've been seeing a lot of people speculating that apple will refresh the studio displays soon/next year due to thunderbolt 5 on the mac mini m4 pro. how likely is that to happen though?

My view is that the current Studio Display is here to stay. Any upgraded option say with miniLED and Promotion will easily eclipse it in price. I doubt they want to turn the monitor section into something which needs north of 2000 USD/EUR/GBP for the ‘basic’ model.
The XDR might be the only one to go Retina and ProMotion in the short term. We have older rumors by Kuo about an upgraded Studio Display but unless anything concrete pops up by the end of this year its probably not going to happen soon. Apple should instead focus on bringing ProMotion down, not up - the Air models are prime candidates now.

What'd you mean by Retina? More than 220 ppi like 270 in MBPs? I don't think this is gonna happen. 220 ppi is a gold standard, that's already Retina.

With all these announcements of Thunderbolt upgrades and the adaption of DSC (Display Stream Compression), I wonder if they will intro a new display with this "a week of announcements". I mean if they only announce MacBook Pro today, that's only 3 days, it's not a week.

IIRC I thought someone from Apple confirmed somewhere that the week of announcements is actually only meant to last 3 days. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. I would love to see new displays though
