I'm hoping for a $100 store credit. The problem is real so Apple would only add to it if they hold a conference and said that everything was fine again. Then again, they can't keep selling problematic iPhone 4's so if it's revised I'd return mine.

Announcing iPhone 5 with a revolutionary internal antenna.

The term "press conference" implies that Apple will be fielding questions, right?

for $100 store credit, they might rather do a recall !

phone cost about $250 to make; and they can still sell the phones as refurbished items once non-conductive coating is applied (if that is the corrective measure)

Wrong.

They can and they are.

I bought mine on the 7th and had it delivered on Monday of this week. I have no issues with the prox sensor and I have it in a Candyshell so no signal loss.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who plans on putting my glass phone in a case.

I personally think that the whiners are in the minority and the majority of the whiners have never had a dropped call resulting from the antenna issue.

If they state that there is a real problem with the iPhone 4's antenna, they'll likely begin shipping revised iPhone 4's next week rather than shipping the iPhone 4 with the same problem that they held a press conference about.

I don't see a store credit of any kind. I see a free bumper and/or refund for those that bought a bumper.

a) if you bought a case - that was your decision (in Apple's eyes) and since they don't make cases, they can't refund that money. Their cost to produce bumpers is really low - so they can give them away. And they can refund you if you already bought one. Lowest cost to them and a whoop-dee-doo "fix"

b) If they gave a credit - they'd have to keep giving credit to everyone who ever buys the iPhone 4 until the next gen comes out. Too expensive and that means for every phone they sell, they have to subtract that cost on their bottom line. Giving away a bumper reduces the bottom line by next to nothing.

So unfortunately - the easiest "get out of PR Jail free card" is the free bumper.

They will still maintain that there's no issue. That people can return theirs for a full refund - but that over 2 million have been sold and this problem is only affecting a very small few people. But HEY! We're so nice - we're going to give EVERYONE a bumper even though over 2 million don't have any issue. Aren't we great!

I'm hearing that the press conference is to announce that Apple is reducing the price of the bumpers from $29 to $25.

The bumpers will be announced as one of Apple's best selling accessories in the company's history, and wants to make them accessible to all iPhone users.

There is no press conference issue.

- Steve

Sent from some device that I can't even recognize because my iPhone 4 won't stay online long enough to send a few words of text so we have to do a press conference. Oh joy.

Damn... I paid full price weeks before the phone was released ( and had to wait longer for that).:D

This is what going to happen

They will say majority of the iPhone4 user don't experience the antenna issue, only a small group of people using the iphone4 in an non ideal signal location might experience signal issue and apple is working hard on a software fix to resolve the carrier low signal/coverage issue.

And no freebies, because any freebies means compensation for the faulty device, period.

And on the next conference, if the software doesn't fix the issue, apple will say they did the best they can to solve the carrier issue, but you can only do so much on to the phone side, the root cause are still the sources of the signal.

And the next thing going to happen is the launch of ipod4, ipad mini, iphone5.

I think people like you should stop for a moment before you post and think to yourself - Am I overgeneralizing and am I going to look like a jerk for not accepting the fact that some people might have issues even if I've never had one.

I don't care if one person has a problem or 10 million. That doesn't make them a whiner if they have a legitimate issue.

If they state that there is a real problem with the iPhone 4's antenna, they'll likely begin shipping revised iPhone 4's next week rather than shipping the iPhone 4 with the same problem that they held a press conference about.

I don't think they'll change their design at all - that would be admitting they made a design error. It's more likely they'll write it off as a few people having issues - a small minority and that a bumper or case is the only solution needed.
