it's going to be damage control. The more I think about it - the more I'm convinced it will be one that touts the # of sold and how amazing and awesome and well received the device has been

Why - to point out the millions of units in the field

then it will be commentary on recent reports and indicating that it's a very very small percentage of people who are experiencing this and they are very sorry for those people dealing with that issue.

Why - to point out how non widespread the issue is

then they will probably have a study or other "evidence" to discredit or put into question consumer reports and other internet "propoganda"

Why - damage control. Deflate the "enemy"

then they will re-iterate their return policy for anyone unhappy

Why - because this is their "out"

then when fielding questions, they will maintain the same responses they've just given and/or ones already mentioned in the letter and via emails.

There won't be an admission of guilt or design flaw. The issue will be relegated to the fact that only a small percentage of people are experiencing any issues and all phones have SOME users that will experience a fluctuation in signals based on area and network coverage.

repeat - they will NOT admit a design flaw.

Usually Apple events have more of a notice when it is a new product release. It will NOT be the white iPhone and it will not be an international launch. This is a last minute event being put together to address a problem. I can promise that.

My 3 predictions are:

1. Free bumper when you go to a store and register a serial number.
2. Apple store credit.
3. A recall that will happen in waves (not likely).

Perhaps only an announcement of ios4.1

I disagree with that. Because even if it was only an announcement of 4.1 most of the questions at this press conference would be targeting the issues regarding the phone and the white iphone. which will shift the entire thing to a different direction. The antenna/consumer report issue will come up. no doubt of that.

i need opinions on this subject. do you think they will quietly release the white iphone4 out of no where one day this summer or do you think they will put an actual release date on it?

Nobody knows but I'm with you. F()cK the reception fix, just give me a white iPhone!

Thank God for Freedom of the Press or this would never have happened.

Thank God for no Internet Control "yet" like they have in China or this would have never happend.

When this "around the world media" ends because of the controls they want to impose on the internet and so on , this kind of thing will be gone.

Bottom line without the internet and the press Steve Jobs would have NEVER went before the public, whether to blow smoke or tell the truth.

If he blows smoke we will know and will not buy his products, if he tells the truth, things will get fixed and Apple will booom in the future.

Thank the press and forums like this....

I don't know about you guys but I would live for them to say there is a problem. Here is a bumper and please allow us the opportunity to win you back with iPhone 5. Next year early upgrade for anyone that purchased between such and such a date. And then they actually unveil that they have started the fix on newer batches.

I'm laughing at people who don't realize this press conference is entirely due to the antenna fiasco. Do you really think Apple would announce such an event two days prior and only invite select media to announce an iOS4 update? Please.

Who knows what their response will be but I do think they will downplay the hardware issue. I'm thinking free bumpers to early adopters otherwise they can return their phone. I do not envision a massive recall.

What I'm curious to know is if Apple will change anything with regards to iPhone's being released moving forward. Perhaps a coated antenna?

As for iPhone Verizon speculation, I'm confident that AT&T holds an exclusivity for five years meaning we won't see a Verizon iPhone until summer of 2012.

It's a press conference, a Q&A session with the media.
Do you have a source, confirming your statement?

I'm not challenging you, Apple's past history is. Apple's favorite tactic is to tell their customers what's best for them without question. They do not follow accepted customs and practices. To ask Apple a question would yield the same finger pointing statements, not answers.

These points reflect good customer relations moves, derived from common sense. Unfortunately common sense does not apply it's a concept beyond Apple's realm. Apple reflects the same mentality of it's followers. An attitude of entitlement & superiority. This time it resulted in Apple getting clocked in the head by the slap of reality. A rarity indeed.

I hope they announce a new, improved notification system and make it available to people who are perfectly happy with their iPhone 4s and just want to move forward instead of being stuck on this signal thing some people are (still) on about. ;)

If it was going to be recalled they would hold the press conference at the beginning of the week to deal with all of the media fallout, not on Friday when everyone wants to enjoy their weekend.

Without the Internet, the iPhone wouldn't exsist. I'll be glad when the forums return to normal. We've been invaded by June/July '10 newbies with their profound wisdom.

What I think will happen as far as the antenna reception problem.

There will be no recall. It would cost way to much since the phone would have to be redesigned.

Apple will admit there is a reception problem if you use your hand to bridge the gap between the two antennas on the phone. This is easily avoidable and that is why they designed the break to occur in the lower left hand corner since a normal user would not be touching that location while on a call. For those that are using a hand position that is affecting the antenna, a case or bumper will fix the problem.

All the current iPhone 4 users will be given a $40 credit with Apple. You can use this credit to purchase a bumper/case or you can use it in the iTunes store. The reason why they will be giving credit instead of a free bumper is because many people have already purchased a case or bumper and they don't need another one.

All new iPhones will have a bumper included with the purchase. This might be a voucher included with the phone or you pick the color of bumper you want at the time of the order. The reason why it will not be a $40 credit like the people who already purchased their phones is because sending them a bumper will only cost apple $1 instead of giving them $40 worth of credit.

Next Year with the iPhone 5, the antenna will go back inside.

Umm, Monday would be the absolute worst day to have a news conference to deliver bad news.

Google "Friday News Dump", this is a PR strategy to push out negative news on a Friday, so that people don't pay attention to the bad news over the weekend and hope it dies down when the new week begins and other stuff take over the news cycle.

Thats the point. Push bad news out on Fridays and hope everyone will forget about it over the weekend.
Worst think to do is release bad news on Mondays. You got 5 days of angry customers and stockholders.
