just reading tea leaves.

Change your brand. NBC have more than likely started their talks with Apple again as they've seen they've losed a profitable revenue stream.

To say that the Apple TV will not get an update if NBC can't agree and come back is ridiculous.

no one said atv wouldn't get an update if the nbc negotiations weren't successful. you are right, that is ridiculous.

my guess is that the release is delayed because of this. apple likes to tell a good story, and if the negotiations are close, i would not put it past them to have a nice press release of nbc coming back to the family, and the atv update releasing at the same time. good market buzz.

and it was in response to a person hoping for the update early.

oh goodie. a troll. i'm wrong, you're right. now go away.

And again you make no sense what-so-ever. You can't justify your own statement when challenged so you resort to calling a poster a troll.

Well done. We are all very proud of you.

No ATV update .. BUT ...

New 16 GB iPhone and 32 GB iPod Touch.

I don't think anyone predicted that for today.

Where is my ATV update though

Plus, I don't see why the store would go down for a software update. Seems like it would just be a front page update, and changing all of the "Coming Soon"s to "Now". Maybe I'm wrong though. My guess is, next tuesday we see MacBook Pro updates, as well as the ATV update. I am betting there is a reason they are still keeping the new iPod Touches and iPhones in the smaller rectangles at the bottom of the front page...

Dang I saw this thread was active again, realized it was a week later then when the updates were expected and my hopes shot through the roof! Then I discovered it was a flame war going on :(

Oh well one day of waiting = 1 less day of waiting for the update. At least I keep telling myself that.

So is the new AppleTV already shipping with Take 2? Or if I buy one from the online store today, will I have to wait for the software update?

Apple TV is still shipping with the "take 1" software. There have been no hardware changes in the new Apple TV, so no need to wait. Buy it now and get the free software upgrade in a week or so.

Well, they said one or two weeks. Today marks that "one week". It could happen any day now. :D

I still think it will be released with 10.5.2 which I bet is what is holding the release of Take 2 back.

They will be shipping with the take 1 software for a while after take 2 comes out. They have so many left over as almost no one bought one...except me and all of the other apple whores on this forum.

I just ordered one second one a few days ago...do the Apple TV's normally ship from China? I thought only Custom and new products ship from there. If true, maybe it has Take 2 on it.

I ordered an Apple TV the day of Steve's keynote in January. It shipped from China with version 1.1 on it. I was surprised it shipped from China, too. Anyway, I wouldn't get your hopes up for Take 2. :)

Maybe they are selling better then the stock on hand in the US. I know the boxes were updated and still ship with 1.1. I would love to see updated sales numbers post keynote.

Is NBC really that popular?
NBC owns many channels including the SciFi channel which is extremely popular especially with first time adopters of gadgets which is a critical group to get on board for creating the buzz and brand of the next potential ipod. Before ipod, there were a lot of other mp3 players but buzz and adoption by critical groups helps launch industry changing devices

data? source?

which critical groups? early adopters? gadget geeks who watch the sci-fi channel?

what does "industry changing devices" mean? i don't think ipod or iphone did anything new, and i'm not sure apple are great innovators; they may just be the best followers in the history of technology. I.e. they don't change industries or products, they create the best examples of well-known ones.

My probably controversial $.02...

Yeah, but the 'one or two week' clock restarts every time someone mentions it.

Thanks to you, it'll now be ANOTHER one or two weeks. Wait...I just said it, too!!
ARGHHH!!:D

data? source?

Having spent several years working for SCI FI, I can confirm that (a) NBC does own the network and (b) a large portion of SCI FI's audience falls into the classification of early adopters, though they are not who the network targets through marketing.

You should really start ducking.

You really lazy but maybe I can help. You ask for data or sources proving that NBC owns the SciFi network. Interesting that you ask. Well there is this new technology that you seem not to be familar which surprises me with all you expertise. It is called "google". You can find it at www.google.com. You can easily search on "nbc" and "scifi" and find several hundred thousands of references showing that GE owns NBC Universal which in turns owns the right to many movies and classic shows and the SciFi network, NBC, CNBC etc.....

In terms of the rest of you messge, it is even less informed. In my message, i specifically said that "Before ipod, there were a lot of other mp3 players but buzz and adoption by critical groups helps launch industry changing devices". What is unclear about "there were a lot of other mp3 devices". If you do not think that the ipod was industry changing then I feel sorry for your uninformed response.
