Tuesday vs Special Event Day
Anyone else think the Take 2 update is sounding more and more like it'll hit on the Feb 26th "Special Event Day" instead of this weekend? There are only 4 days left for these guys to get it out the door and frankly I don't see it happening.

and writers strike is nearly done. 99% there, they vote on saturday. NBC was central in talks, and main issue was royalties on electronic media, prime example was itunes.

"IF" there will be a special event at the end of February, Apple would obviously have known about it well ahead of time. Why would Apple say the update would be out in "a week or two"' when they had no intention of releasing it until the end of the month? That just makes no sense to me.
How do you know there's no chance by Tuesday? And who says it has to be by Tuesday? Technically, the "week or two" note from Apple was made on a Wednesday, which gives them an extra day. In fact, the "week or two" comment is pretty general, so to me any time next week would be with the time frame.

I just got my 160gb Apple TV (that I ordered 3 weeks ago) and set it up - I'm very impressed... Apple sure are leaders in interface design aren't they. Interface is usually the worst aspect of AV gear, even from big brands.

So, is it going to get here by 2/13/2008 or what? That would be the additional two weeks that Apple stated in the press release.
I am eager to see how it handles the 5.1 sound and the sooner that it is out there...the sooner Handbrake cam update the AppleTV settings for the Take 2 software.
Between this and waiting for my MC Pro w/8800GT, my patience is wearing thin.

hoping for tomorrow. hoping special event day is SDK and release of cool iphone aps.
I would think that apple would not want to take the focus off the iphone if the special day is for the sdk.
i agree. they generally keep their press announcements separate. like the time they released nano, and then a week later released video ipod. thats why i'm hoping they live up to their word with the update sometime this week. (this is when the lawyers on the thread start dissecting the exact words about the 1-2 week delay...

hmmm, I seem to remember in early 2006 they did a special event to release the mac mini intel and the hifi. Not much product relation there.
I remember that. Worst Apple special event EVER! Remember what Steve said to squash expectations in the first two minutes-- "Today we're having medium-level announcements." Man, I laughed really hard at that...
I cant imagine apple would make the same mistake twice, they are unlikely to say two weeks, twice, and both time let us all down. When leopard was delayed they delayed it at first, then gave a more accurate timescale. For a company to be 2 weeks away from a major software release, they must have been close. So lets get this thread fired up again. Ok so its not coming today(monday), tomorrow, maybe, Apple ad tuesday software releases are common. and wednesday is the end of the one or two week deadline. Its ok for a lot of posters to say "its ready when it ready", but we are all ready NOW.
lol. i remember it as well. part of the announcement was about leather cases for their ipods. they had to get them "just right"....
