If one takes that to its logical conclusion, one has to wonder; "If they were aware of what the opposition were doing", would they still stay with the iPhone?
I don't think you could answer that question because you'd likely find a group of people with totally different preferences anyway. You couldn't say if they bothered to learn about the opposition that they would undoubtedly suddenly think the iPhone is crap. You could of course have a situation where it only reinforces their original choice further, but that's equally as much of a guestimate. We can only wonder.

----------

I since owning and using iPhones through the iPhone 4 would call myself an android guy. After the I4 I went to a skinned version of android, and then to the nexus line. After using android for about 2 years I decided to see what the iPhone 5 had to offer. Had it for about 7 months and then got the note 2. Not long after the note 2 I got the nexus 4. I am now back to using my iPhone 5, and have a sim adaptor to use my nexus 4 too if I want.

I say all of this to say my views may have changed over the last serval months. After using the i5 I thought I would most likely never go back to iOS again. I dogged it pretty hard after I stopped using it. Then I realized just about a month ago iOS does what I use my phone most for better. I need push notification on my phone. Whether it be macrumors, Facebook, or any other app I depend on push notification for. iOS can handle them better. I say the because tapatalk on android does not offer push notification at all on android. One of the things I enjoy doing on my phone is talking on forums. It helps break up my work day. Not have info for when someone quotes you, or replies to your tread can be a pain in the butt. I am not saying android does not do push notification well. Just not on the apps I use. Which in these cases are not androids fault. I realize now my smartphone is more about what gets the things I do most done better. Right now the iPhone does that. I am not more about functioning for my needs then me being able to customize the home screens. iOS may be kind of boring, but it is working for me.
I hadn't realised tapatalk notifications didn't push on Android. They do on iPhone but I wasn't a member here when I had a Samsung S3. Well said though, its nice to know there are others out there that just enjoy simplicity and the functionality of a device rather than competing to prove why one is better. :)

One could say, "they don't know what they are missing" then? One would imagine that out of those you describe as "blissfully unaware" that at least some (not all) would change? That must be a safe assumption one would presume? :)

Of course Dave that was the point I was trying to make, everyone has different preferences. Perhaps 'blissfully unaware' was a bit ill informed of me as I don't really know if these people are totally unaware of the opposition. It just doesn't pop up in conversation much and these particular people have never expressed an interest. We can assume all we want I suppose and no doubt their are Android users who are 'blissfully unaware' of the iPhone and its features and who would change if given the opportunity. After all I used Android on various phones for 4 or so years and enjoyed it thoroughly, yet upgraded to the iPhone 5 as I fancied a change and have not regretted it as yet.

I do know somebody with the S4 and is a complete technophobic. She doesn't have a clue what half the features are on the phone and to be honest any smartphone is complicated for her. We were using facetime on Saturday night when calling some friends after dinner and she asked if her 'phone did that?' Its worth remembering that there are people out there who don't really care as long as a phone does what they want it to do or in some cases haven't got a blimming clue in the first place. :)

Yep no push notification on tapatalk app. I reach out to them about 2 months ago and never heard anything. I read that the tablet android app does have push notification, but who cares. Oh well I like my iphone and what it offers. I have grown up some and realized that it is not going to work for everyone, and neither is better. One works better for some people and the other works better for others.

iOS is just a bit boring to me, but it works for what I need so I will get over it. I do wish they would add a bigger screen cause I have big hands, but other than that I can live with the iphone.

That's good to know they've sorted it. For some reason tapatalk on iPhone seems a lot more polished to the Android version I was running before. When you pull down to reload it does it whereas I used to have to restart the app on my S3 and the general appearance just seems nicer. It is silly and unacceptable IMO because you pay the same amount of money for it so it should be the same. Its been several months since I used the Android version now, so perhaps this has caught up somewhat, like the notification option? :)

Actually its a lot better designed than the previous Tapatalk premium app too. Much easier to navigate and works great on the One.

I just got done downloading it, but I did not see push for quoted text. It had it for reply and private messages, but no quoted text. Kind of weird. Unless I am missing something.

I assume it assumes quoted text is a reply ;)

At the end of the day, just like MS Office for Mac is a bit different than MS Office for Windows, Android Apps will be a bit different than iOS Apps.

That's a fact that unfortunately some iOS users choose to use as a way to bash Android. They fail to accept that differences will always exist. Nowhere does Android state they are attempting to be iOS. Yet some people insist on thinking that way.

In turn that reflects more about them, than the platform they hate. Besides using differences as an excuse to hate something is obviously quite immature.

Well I would think the same thing, but that is what is on the tapatalk 2 app, and the only way you get notification is if you subscribe to the thread. I don't always subscribe I just want to know if someone quotes me.

I never subscribe and I'm getting the notifications ;)

Ok cool. I just know on the tapatalk 2 it would only send you notification to replies to topics you subscribe to. Since it is in beta can you send them feedback? The UI looks sexy, and now even better than the iOS app.

I get notificarions on tapatalk 2 as well. Replying from it now. There is also a tapatalk 4 now that is in beta.

I think notifications on Android are far better than iOS. The iPhone for me is ok but the screen is too small and i have to have it jailbroken and even that. You have to wait for it now and it still isn't as good as Android. Just my opinion.

Oh Tapatalk 2 you do get notifications, but it is not push. It only checks on a timed schedule. The new beta tapatalk 4 looks good.

Notifications come through pretty promptly on iOS. I might have misunderstood your point though, but surely notifications are pretty much the same on both OS's if they are working correctly?

Excellent post, and I would add it's not just a one-way street. Many here think that if iOS doesn't become Android then Apple failed or the people who use iOS are stupid or ignorant.

Cheers!

Indeed :)
There are examples for both sides of the argument as demonstrated here. There is also examples of those who are offended by the slightest criticism too. The latest discussion concerning tapatalk is useful though as its clear its improved dramatically since I left Android. Judging by the screenshots above it looks very similar to iOS although a use of brighter colours etc.

I think we have had a very smooth discussion about Tapatalk this time. I know I am not offended by anyone and I don't think I offended anyone.

Point well taken. I for one truly enjoy my iPhone 5 for it's strengths and look forward to Apple responding, if they choose to do so, to market demands for the types of improvements that have already been covered here in the forum many times.

Nothing beats a good discussion, as opposed to bashing the competition over trivial issues just to fulfill a single users desire to hate a product.

I agree.

As one who has tried Tapatalk on both platforms from time to time, I've found that I don't care for it. Yet that doesn't mean it's not a great app that fills many users desires for the kinds of capabilities it delivers.

There are lots of Apps I neither care for or use, simply because I like the native full desktop internet experience. I am simply not someone who is very fond of most apps. Whereas the desktop, not mobile, internet experience can be had with a display in the range of 4.7" & up with a bit of zooming.

No matter what my personal preferences or thoughts may be about a certain product, I do enjoy reading and participating in a good discussion as opposed to some of the fights that break out here.

Cheers :)

How do you guys feel about the web experience of an iPad compared to an Android tablet?

I personally prefer browsing the web on an Android tablet vs safari on my iPad. While the interface is as smooth all the time I find with flash installed its a better experience. This could be the reason for not an as smooth experience. Some websites just stump my iPad.
