All models appear to still be in stock. Given limited quantities are available, makes me wonder how successful this product will be (at least for gen 1).
Great point, I’ll wait for the outcome of this product, i will buy it when this first gen is at the lowest price.

Apple is now accepting pre-orders for the Apple Vision Pro, the company's first spatial computing device. Orders are live in the U.S. online store, with the Vision Pro limited to the United States for the time being.

Vision-Pro-Pre-Orders-Feature-1.jpg

The Apple Store app on an iPhone or iPad with Face ID is the best way to order the Vision Pro, because the ordering process requires a face scan to determine the correctly sized Light Seal and head band for each user. Accessories need to be in the right size for the Vision Pro to work as intended.

Customers who wear eyeglasses will need to submit a valid, unexpired prescription from a U.S. eye-care professional to order ZEISS lenses that can be inserted into the headset, but this can be done after the ordering process.

Priced at $3,500, the Vision Pro features an aluminum alloy frame with a laminated glass front, and it is equipped with two 4K micro OLED displays with 23 million pixels combined. More than a dozen cameras do everything from tracking eye movements to registering hand gestures as a method of control to mapping the area around the wearer.

A soft, fitted Light Seal attaches magnetically to the frame and conforms to the wearer's face to block out ambient light, and there are two bands that come with it, including the Solo Knit Band and the Dual Loop Band. The Solo Knit Band is made of a stretchy, braided material, while the Dual Loop Band has an extra strap that goes over the head for better weight distribution.

As a mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro is able to display augmented reality content overlaid on the real world, or immersive content that is entirely virtual. A Digital Crown on the side of the device controls the level of immersiveness. The Vision Pro runs visionOS, and it has a dedicated App Store. It is also able to connect to a Mac to serve as a display, and it can be used with a keyboard and mouse. Apple is using an M2 chip in the Vision Pro with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, plus it has a second R1 chip that is responsible for interpreting the information coming from the cameras, sensors, and microphones.

With an included external battery pack, the Vision Pro lasts for up to 2.5 hours, but it can also be plugged in for all-day use.

Rumors suggest that Apple made a limited number of Vision Pro headsets for the initial launch of the device, and units are expected to sell out. Those who want to get their hands on a Vision Pro should plan to pre-order immediately.

The Vision Pro will launch on Friday, February 2, which is when pre-orders will be delivered. There may also be units available for in-store purchases at that time, but how many headsets each store will get is unknown.

I was a little surprised how smooth it went, got in early to the office, had my laptop and my phone ready five minutes after I was done! Boom!💥

I am with you here... I do not trust a Medium conclusion from the fit... so I am hoping they have some replacements when I go to pick it up.
Same here. Just for testing purposes, I began to place an order for an additional light seal....which came out to a different size? Decided to do a pick up at the store instead to insure a perfect fit and eliminate exchanges. Also gave me the opportunity to change my mind and upgrade to the 512GB option...I suspect this VP apps will eat up 256GB rather quickly.

Be sure your prescription is signed. My optometrist emailed a PDF of my prescription but it wasn’t signed, so Zeiss came back and asked for a signed version.

What is everyone planning to use their new Vision Pros for? Has Apple cracked the code of how to make a headset useful outside of gaming and some vertical markets? Is it rugged enough for the vertical markets (of which one the biggest is "fixing things")- and I'm not sure I'd want a glass-fronted headset if I were a mechanic...

Would be nice if they did 3 years of Applecare+ coverage for $399 like they do with their MacBooks.

Out the door at $4994 plus tax (1TB, AC, Rx, case, extra battery and clip).

I pre ordered a 256. I’ll wait and see what they use this thing for before wasting money on storage . I have a 128gb quest that is barely half full after a year

I got my order in at about 8:18 AM Eastern. I went back and forth for a few minutes debating about pullling the trigger but ultimately decided to do it. My wife and are are DINKS (dual income, no kids) and we both make good money with a good amount of disposable income and don’t combine our personal credit cards or individual saving accounts so why not?

Pickup wasn’t available for the 256 GB model by the time I placed the order but I was still able to have it shipped the and delivered the week of February 12th. Delivery via shipping slipped into March quickly in my area even for the 512 GB model though as of an hour ago you could still do in-store pickup at a store about 30 minutes from my home on February 3rd for the 512 Gb model. I considered canceling my order and making the trip down there to pick it up but in the end I decided against it in case by the time I canceled the original order and placed the second order there were none available for pickup any more forcing me to wait until March.

I don’t know if it’ll be worth it. I highly doubt it but I figure I can resell it with the understanding the new owner would need to order their own light seal related accessories and price that into the resale value but then again, if demand is high enough, maybe I can get the whole amount I spent back if I decide I don’t want it.

We’ll see….

Wow I’m mad. Had one in my cart for 8am pickup and Apple Pay failed on me literally ten times. Tried different cards. I’ve used the app and Apple Pay a million times before with no issues. Saw my pickup time slowly creep into the late afternoon, before my order finally went through. Feb 6th in the email though it showed feb 2 on the app. Bizarre
I tested my Apple Pay earlier this week on a $50 gift card and it would not work, and then my card wouldn’t work either and I’ve spent countless hours with Apple tech support trying to get that working before this morning to no avail. This morning I go and try to order one just for the hell of it and it goes through no problem at all. Something is up with the store

I’m guessing they want to watch a lot of 2d videos with limited 3d ones. This involves wearing something the weight of a 13” iPad on your face. Weighs significantly more than the quest 3.

All this sounds good on paper I guess but let’s see how many movies anyone actually watches in these. With the quest I wasn’t interested unless it was really good 3d media at minimum and usually for like 15-20 mins tops.

This desire to see such media quickly gets old though. The weight, battery issues, and headaches of the device remain the same.

I’m guessing Apple will see a lot of returns.

Prism could be corrected in software by shifting the images. If only a software update or 3rd party app would support it.
(Potentially, it might even be possible to develop software that trains your eyes/brain to do more of their own prism correction)
Software could also adjust the rotation of images, which can’t be done with lenses, which could be a boon to people with optical myasthenia gravis.
The possibility of correcting for prism offset in software had occurred to me as well. It absolutely couldn’t be 3rd party, though, because it would require very low-level manipulation of what appears on one of the screens and how eye position is tracked.

The one potential issue is that it’s going to screw up the edges of the field of view by however much the prism offset is, since the screen itself isn’t moving, just the image on it. For corrections of a very small amount like my eyes, I doubt it’d be noticeable, but for more severe adjustment you’d substantially limit how far you could look to the sides and would have strange asymmetrical dark areas in your periphery where the screen ended even when looking forward.

For that reason I suspect it will end up having to be corrected by the lenses, if they ever support it at all. Which they might not if the percentage of people with prism is low—the whole thing fundamentally is useless to blind users, so Apple could just decide that it’s not worth serving the edge of the potential market with particular hard-to-address vision problems.

Your idea of rotational correction is really interesting, though—hypothetically this device could be repurposed to correct something otherwise uncorrectable.

Gentle reminder that the Apple Vision Pro in 2024 is a Version 1 product, just like the first-generation iPhone was in 2007. Some people need to manage their expectations.

Don't forget to see the potential future in this—what will the Apple Vision Pro look like in the year 2040—just like a pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses? 😎 All that tech (and much more) miniaturized into the stems (arms/temples) and lenses of the glasses?

Remember there's a 14-day return window. Plan to use the hell out of mine in that time to find out if it's really worth it. The issue is that the App Library may not be substantial until later. Remember when the "fun," new app for the iPhone was the app where you could "fill up" the phone with beer and it would slosh around and then you could "drink" it? How far we've come.

Was literally screaming at my phone at 5 am when it took 14 minutes to do a proper face scan

Still somehow managed to get a February 6 delivery, maybe because I chose the Goldilocks storage (512)

By 2040 the Vision Pro will just be contact lenses ;)

Ordered one from Europe and have it delivered to a friend. Now just need to fly over to US and pick it up mid Feb 💸
