seems there is a usb c connector to charge up battery, maybe connect it to power while sitting and watching a movie or gaming? or they will definitely sell the battery by itself so you have a full one ready to go for another 2 hours, just keep switching…not ideal but will work…obviously they will improve this as generations come…still getting it on day one, battery life doesn’t concern me

Yah - battery life - who cares. Who didn't clue in to plug it into power? This is 1.0

Tell the naysayers to wait for Vision Pro 2... NO - Vision Pro 3. haha

Despite those sofa-based adverts (and the ironic 'get your arse back to the office, Apple employees' WFH videos) the price tag has industry written all over it. This thing will be great for design, healthcare and engineering outfits for all sorts of reasons.

But for home entertainment I don't see how it improves upon PSVR2. VR-specific apps aside, I can still experience video on the big personal display or play the PS5 software library on it. Apple Arcade is great for gaming on your phone but it's hardly Gran Turismo 7 or Final Fantasy XVI is it?

Well, how come you do not have a nice 3D VR video of your relatives and loved ones from 5 years ago?

Just as an example.

Vision Pro goggles will make it as easy as you make a short birthday party video with your camcorder. Right? Oh wait - you don't use a camcorder anymore. You use your iPhone to make a video of the birthday party. Is it 3D VR? No.

Yah, 3D TV was a fad. I got one. Called the cable TV company and said how come you are not broadcasting Wimbledon in 3D so I can watch it on my new $3300 Samsung LCD 3D TV set??? They didn't and still do not broadcast sports in 3D. What happened there? So you seen it all and know all about 3D enough to pooh pooh Apple ?

You will be shown, but the reason I post reponses on this forum is to get people reading this stuff to think about it a bit more rather than feeling settled that they know something. I can see that already people are getting the usual things about the new product wrong.
Even 3D TVs back in the day had the ability to be watched by more than one person at any given time, though... Am I gonna buy a family of four $15k worth of headsets so we can all relive memories, or close to $4k (w/ tax) for one so we can watch one at a time? Just seems like a strange value prop. And making one thing easy ≠ make it necessary. We'll see how this pans out, but I'm far from the Kool-Aid table today.

Bold move from Apple if that’s the case. That could quite easily be considered discriminatory pricing.
Nope. Prescription lenses are going to have a cost. That's not discriminatory, that's life.

For this thing, they'll need to be a custom setup, not just generic lenses. They'll be ridiculously high priced, but that's also fairly common for "brand name" lenses.

Ouch. I remember in January 1984 waiting for the Mac to be released at the rumored price point of $999. Boy did it hurt when it came out at $2495.
Try adjusting for inflation and see what that gets you in todays money 😅

This isn't a consumer product... yet. But it gets the ball rolling—even if it's into Black Mirror territory.

I'd give anything to see an authentic BOE. I wonder if they're even breaking even.

These could be like the first HomePod or AirPod Maxes, or maybe they catch on in time.

This seems like a long-term investment rather than a home run on the first pitch.

The technology is pretty solid but this price point is just nuts, gonna wait until 3rd or 4th gen and see if prices come down around $1,000ish

3D technology is still a thing on consumer products? I can't find a single 3D HDTV on Rtings, Amazon, etc. that isn't at least 4+ years old. And are there any consumer-grade 3D displays one might use with a desktop computer? Hmmm...
AFAIK projectors still support 3D. It really depends on the pixel response time how viable something like DLP link is.

It is beautiful, and I LOVE the style and concept. But, $3,500 and a 2-hour battery pack?

That's a non-starter, and crazy fundamental misunderstanding on how a lot of folks will use this - or want to use this.

You can't finish a lot of movies. It would be worthless for a lot of long plane rides. Even around the house in a remote work option, 2 hours sucks!

It needs an 8 hour battery pack and some price trimming to make it an in demand item, IMHO.
Long plane rides will usually include power outlets. Plug it in.

What I see is a device that once it is refined into something with more battery life and and smaller in size it will take off. The fact you can see through it normally is a real game changer. Your own personal heads up display,

I get that the technology is crazy but at that price I’d like steam compatibility as well. Apple Arcade? no thanks. Also it would be really cool if it could act as a Mac mini main display for travel purposes.

They talk about reducing myopia earlier on, then give us this 🤣 Curious of the long-term effects, even if the screen "appears" far away.
None. The screen appears far away, the eye is focusing far away. No one is focusing on something an inch away from their eyes while wearing this.

Apple today introduced the long-awaited AR/VR headset that it has had in development for the last several years, and as rumors suggested, it is expensive. The Vision Pro is priced starting at $3,499.

Given the high price point, there appears to be a single model, with no color options or accessories for the device, despite rumors. There could, however, be different storage options as Apple did mention a starting price.

The headset will not be launching in 2023, with Apple instead planning to debut it in early 2024. When it launches, it will be available solely in the United States, though it will expand to other countries later on in 2024.

Demonstrations will be available at Apple retail locations closer to the device's launch date.

Apple knows the price is a non-starter. MacRumors had stories that Apple is expected only 100k in sales in the first year which for any other Apple launch would be a disaster. They know the product is early and too expensive but I think the plan is to get the tech out there... to have the 1% that have this thing spend the next several years talking about how amazing it is, to get developers to make incredible apps and give Apple time to make more compelling apps... and then maybe in 3 years... BAM... $1500 and mass sales begin.

Definitely gotta get it right, but man missing XMAS holiday season is a killer, missing Q4 or any year going into Q1 of the following, you’re going into the LOWEST consumer buying period of the year. Bonne chance.

the people willing to spend $3500+ on this early tech (and there aren't many) don't base their buying decisions on time of year. Apple knows this will sell in such low quantities it will make ZERO impact on the bottom line of the company other than perhaps being a money loser... this is all a beach head to the category and to get the people that do buy it to talk it up for the next couple of years until Apple can make one for $1500 and the real sales begin.

It's obvious that this is for developers and curious early adopters. Investors needed to be appeased and Apple is just marking their territory for now.

First Adopter of AR? You know it's been around for years in wearable and none wearable form as MR and XR?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're not first adopting any tech here other than Apples go with this device. You're choosing an ecosystem that is embedded across all of your other hardware choices so doesn't feel jarring.

Apple is bringing humanity a workable and very interesting, disruptive and transformative technology once again.

I like to think about all the Uber Drivers out there. I think that without Apple, the entire careers of so many people would not exist in the same way at all. The iPhone made mobile apps happen, and allowed Uber carreers to exist really. So when Steve Balmer told us his pooh-pooh about Zune and pooh-poohed the iPhone with no keyboard on it, I think those who have seen one and seen them all are something. I don't know what - just something.

"The Vision Pro is priced starting at $3,499."
"Given the high price point, there appears to be a single model..."

Apple never uses "starting at" if there is no upgrade option unless, in this case, they are referring to the optical inserts for eyeglass-wearers (which are a separate purchase).

This also means that non-eyeglass wearers interested in saving up for this device may wish to increase their carrot intake immediately. Because if you buy these and then you find out later you need glasses, those Zeiss lenses will cost you even more.

I know many don't use them but obviously if you wear contacts you won't need the optical inserts.

Oh man. If this thing could connect to my Mac Pro and allow me to work with After Effects and Cinema 4D would be a ground breaking experience for me and many designers. What a missed opportunity. Hoping this thing lasts up to a version 2.0 and isn't DOA like the Newton.
I don't think this will be DOA. Apple has spent years building up the infrastructure to support it. The Newton did not have any infrastructure outside of some large metro areas. It really is a illustration of Apples state of mind when Steve Jobs was absent. Build it and they will come, we hope. When Steve returned he quickly killed it off it just was not selling.
