Samsung spent way more on advertising than Apple, and you chose to single out Apple as an example of deceptive advertising?

Samsung sells a lot more products than Apple does, so their high publicity budget wasn't all about phone ads.

What we do know from court documents and ad group reports, is that in the US, Apple outspent Samsung for years in the specific area of mobile phone advertising :

2008-2013-ad-spending.png

It wasn't until recently that Samsung spent a little more than Apple for a couple of years... and I've heard that they might be below Apple again this year.

Maybe you buy mediocre products because of marketing, but I dont.

Again, it's not about personal anecdotes - that's amateurish.

Yes, indeed people do buy medoicre products because of marketing. The trick is convincing them that it is a superior product by manipulating their conceptions of what "superior" means.

It's about the facts of human behaviour and understanding how marketers apply the dark arts that knowledge to their advantage. This is what Apple does and what Samsung has not mastered.

I can't understand why anyone would waste time in denial about this, unless they dont actually understand the underlying business of marketing.

Links/citations to the bolded citing some noteworthy source that says apples customer base thinks their products are mediocre and their products sell ONLY because of apple marketing.

Basically you are calling apple customers isheep in not so many derogatory words.

What I think is happening, and to use your word denial, you are in denial apple produces a product people WANT to buy and provides a corporate atmosphere and philosophy that keep people coming back. The value of the company indicates they know their customer base and what their customers want.

There are no dark arts, no witch craft, no spells, no cauldrons with eye of newt. It's plain old Peter Drucker 101.

This is just it - Apple detractors don't believe that the product is any good (based on some nebulous scale of goodness) and thus, it's all smoke and mirrors on how they continue to sell. However, anyone that purchases a device that isn't produced by Apple (example - Android handset), has obviously done extensive amounts of research and determined that this is the best product ever.
Sometimes, you just have to give up, since they'll just never understand it.

You can use whatever perjorative terms you want to and finger whom you want to. I am just explaining to you the mechanics of how marketing can and is used to make people buy things: I convince you that what you really want is X. And that Y and Z dont matter. And that "everybody" likes and wants X. So you should want it too. Because it means you are A B C.

Lots of companies attempt to do it. Very few do it so ruthlessly and holistically. This is the fact.

.

In your eagerness to challenge, you haven't quite understood the nature of how this sort of marketing works. The tactic is manipulation of consumers' value systems. And yet, here you are asking for a study that will get the subject of the successful manipulation to...tell you they were manipulated? Seriously?

This is absolutely hilarious.....

What is absolutely hilarious (and honestly, getting to be more than a little irritating) is your absolute refusal in acknowledging that Apple devices are actually very capable products in their own right, that they are serving their users well, and that people are happy using them.

I own a variety of Apple products (of which you can see in my desc below). You can call me a victim of clever and ruthless marketing all you want. I think I can speak for myself when I vouch that my Apple devices are serving me well, and I am getting great mileage out of them both for work and leisure. I see myself continuing to use Apple products for a good many years to come.

What is hilarious, is the belief conveyed that people can be mass hypnotized. I asked for some proof of everything in your post and didn't get any. The assertions in your post are further examplex of "factoids".

Therefore I am assuming at this point you cannot backup what you are trying to say in your post; which of course makes sense since people don't really behave like the mice in the pied piper.

And as you said in your other post: "the amount of nonsense is high in this one".

The irony here is YOU are asking someone for sources. You never provide sources for anything you claim

That may be the irony here, but the real irony is what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Remember the all so important credibility?

Yeah….but we post sources for our claims. I have yet to see you do that.
So you're right….you have no credibility…….

Another off-topic post.

Instead of being the "credibility hall monitor", it would have been much more useful to the thread to actually further the conversation.

You must be new to the internet! :) You can have the last word, in the scheme of things, it's quite irrelevant.

soooo….when confronted with the fact you never provide sources for any of your claims……even though you ask others for sources. You respond with……..you want to have the last word……………but it is irrelevant.

Why should he have to provide sources? It's like the police trying to indict someone of a crime. The onus is on the police to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is indeed guilty of a crime. The suspect shouldn't have to prove anything.

The sad reality is that the amount of effort needed to refute BS will always far outweigh the effort required in spouting it. Why should we be the ones who have to do all the grunt work of generating all this "evidence" while the accuser just sits with legs crossed, wags his finger and says "nah".

Context is everything, which is something that seems to be lost in you.

The person who started this thread has yet to offer convincing evidence which sufficiently substantiate his claim. This shows that he is not in the least interested in having a productive discussion to begin with. If anything, it amazes (and dismays) me that this thread has racked up as many replies as it has, despite the topic clearly not having progressed anywhere.

And when other people do, he either refuses to acknowledge it, or flat ignores it outright. What then is the point of taking the effort to research facts and type them here when the other party is not even interested in listening?

Blah blah blah.........you can make up all the crap want. Spin it anyway you want tell the biggest lies you want. That's why people post sources. Because unless you have a source for your informed opinion......you're just making stuff up. Sorry that is lost on you. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving.....

My brother is starting to realise the pit falls of the marketing surrounding the LG G3 and he's only a couple of months into his contract. I think everything has good marketing in this sector, you just need to know you'll enjoy the product regardless of what brand it is. If it were all about specs, they would be the only choice.

You can still cite a source that has made things up or has a bunch of "factoids" that has the "facts" wrong. Sorry you don't understand that.

Sorry you don't get the whole internet thing. It seems technology has past you by. Passing your opinions as facts is a nice little made up world. Until someone asks for a source. That's where everything you say falls apart. You never have a source so you just make things up. Your opinions have no basis in the facts......you just make stuff up as you go along.

That's why no one here takes you seriously.

I have no problem with people saying Apple manipulates the media. It should be evident large companies do it successfully.

The second part of the sentence is where common sense goes out the window: "Apple manipulates the media, and by manipulating the media, they hypnotize the masses to buy an ill-conceived, bug ridden, under speced phone, extremely expensive phone as compared to the competition.

That's the subtext.

now you are discussing who takes who seriously? You must be new to the Internet.

Based on your post you must be in physically great shape. You appear to get a lot of exercise "leaping to conclusions".
