Do you plan on ordering the new Apple Watch Series 7 (2021) this September?

That’s unlucky as I’ve always got a solid 30 hours out of my Apple watches
Mine did too, the first few months. It’s three years old now. I’m curious, do you have functions turned off? I use only a few apps, and would love to dump the rest of them, in case they’re using battery power, but not sure how to do that.

I did not have high hopes for such a small device — and tiny battery. But I thought I could get five years before buying a replacement. At $600, only 3 years, not a good value.

No not really. I just leave everything on standard settings. To be honest, I don’t have a lot of additional third-party apps on my watch. If you’re suffering from serious battery drain then you may want to consider removing your apps and reinstalling them one at a time as it could be one of those apps that is causing the problem

I always restore. It’s much easier as I have my bank cards set up in the wallet and cellular data plan
From memory you are on EE? Do you just unpair your old and restore the new from backup or do you have to get EE involved?

I though am keeping my S5 so that may complicate things.

When I’m training for a marathon I will consistently wear my Fenix but otherwise wear my AW pretty exclusively. For me the AW is too toyish and lacking features for serious run training. Casually when I’m just logging miles it’s fine though. And the Garmin battery life is 🤌
Why do you say the AW is too toyish and lacking in features for serious run training?

Yeah I’m on EE and i just restore from the back up to my new watch. I’ve also have had data plans on every watch since the Series 3 with EE.
Each time I upgrade to a new watch, I just unpair my old watch and keep the data plan. Then when I pair my new watch I make sure that Wi-Fi is switched off on both the phone and the watch. When it gets to the Part where I connect the data plan I normally get an error code and it’s at that point that I call EE and give them the new EID number and they transfer my data plan to the new watch and normally it’s up and running within 10 minutes

My card just got charged on my order , pick up on 10/15 Apple Store !

@kid84 did your order status changed after the charge? Because my order is in the processing state since friday. Also my CC got not charged yet.
Store Pickup in Austria 🇦🇹

As I mentioned earlier, I tried to order today (it’s two days since launch of pre-orders), and the one I wanted was unavailable. I’m glad. I’ll be waiting, probably a few months, to see how others report that it does, particularly on battery life.

If I’m ever in a town with an Apple Store, I may just get the $75 battery replacement for my AW4, and then go and buy a solar Garmin. I really want longer battery life and a camera would be great.

So, how can be a second watch paired with the iPhone to keep both watches paired? I guess I will ask that in store when I pick up my S7 next weekend.

My card has been charged (delivery expected on Friday). Not sure when it was charged, but glad to see the order process and hopefully all will go well for the delivery on Friday.

Battery life isn’t great for long runs and races, lack of enough physical buttons to use get while tired/running, lack of ability to program runs, lack of ability to properly do intervals, GPS doesn’t lock before you start the run, display/information generally too simplistic (especially in the stock app).

I love my Apple Watch and just ordered a 7. I will wear it when I casually run but for me it doesn’t cut it for formal training.

I can’t remember if this is still applicable but I used to have two watches paired to my phone. It was dead easy to switch from one to the other. When the Apple Watch first came out you had yo unpair an re-pair to swap watches but subsequent watch OS updates changed that

Yeah you can have as many watches tied to an iPhone as you’d like. I’ve had up to 3 attached to my phone.

the limitation is when you have cellular enabled watches. Carrier limitations apply. Like I can only have one cellular watch connection per iPhone so having two cellular watches, I can only activate cellular connectivity on one of them.

Cheers!

I have had data on my 3,4 & 5 but can never remember what I do lol to transfer the plan.

What I do know is not to get hoodwinked into the £7 plan over the £5 I have :)

Have you mainly been using the stock workout app? If so, I highly suggest you give “WorkoutDoors” ago. It is the best running app there is for the AW. It can do what you are looking for. WoD is my go to for running. I can easily go 8hrs - 10 hrs on my long runs (depending on GPS signal). I do make sure to turn off notifications, AoD , and don’t stream music during the long runs.
