Having had the watch for about half a day I can't understand anyone who wouldn't buy a stand, the current charging solution is clumsy and a stand is a MUST IMHO.

I don't have my watch yet, but what about the current charger is clumsy? You just place the watch on top of it, right?

Some kickstarter links that looked interesting:
Duet
WatchDock Steel

This one comes with a genuine Apple charger and looks similar to one someone posted earlier:
Unify Dock
Night Stand

I've seen a lot that I liked, but I kind of want one now. And nothing I've seen is currently in stock.

I'm worried about the metal-on-metal of the Duet and the Unify.

I think night stand looks really nice (but I think your links are swapped). It's a really minimalist/functional combo docking station. Almost all of the watch docks are standing up at an angle, like it's trying to display it... And I thought I liked that, but now that I think about it, the watch doesn't really show anything when charging right (other than perhaps battery %)? Laying the watch down on it's side on that base is probably much easier and more sensible then gently placing it on a taller dock that it could a) potentially slide around or b) tip over

My only concern would be with the suction (rather than a heavy weighted base). I've had issues with suctions and taking the iPhone off the dock every day could result in an occasional uprooting of the suction. Could be annoying

first night and it did its job perfectly! I can tap the watch throughout the night to see what time i keep waking up at....grrrr but my sleeping issues isn't your stands fault haha! No, this was a great piece, hope you sold them ALL!

I'll second that. I received my stand yesterday and while I don't have my watch yet, the stand is impeccable.

I'm worried about the metal-on-metal of the Duet and the Unify.

Your iPhone rests on the Lightning connector and the rubber back support. The dock opening is quite wide greatly minimizing no metal-on-metal contact.

Hey there! We shot the video for Unify Dock without the microsuction cups, it's a hefty dock that likes to stay put! The dock weighs over 1.5lbs. We're happy to answer any questions!

Hi,

I was browsing the forum and was excited to see our dock mentioned! I just wanted to note that the links are actually backwards for Unify Dock and Night Stand.

We are very pleased to be mentioned as launched our Kickstarter just today! If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask! We would love to hear your feedback.

Andrew

Oops, sorry about the switched links!

I did have a couple questions, in the photos there's a slight cutout under the watch case to accommodate the shape. Is that a 42mm watch in the photo? Is the band fastened in the photos?

I do like the idea of having the chargers included so I can have a spare.

Well... to be honest, I prefer the look (and the price) of the night stand compared to yours, but I definitely like how the watch/iphone chargers are built-in on the unify dock. Overall, very good work though.

Edit: Regarding price, when you take into consideration the cost of the 2 additional charging cables its actually the exact same price as the night stand (as currently stands on KS for each)

Couple questions on the watch dock portion. You mention metal on metal is minimized on the iPhone, but it appears the watch will lay the side direction on aluminum. Is that a valid concern? Additionally, how does the sized-groove for the watch face accommodate the 38mm and 42mm?

Additionally, do you have any pics of the space grey or gold?

Any watch stands shipping today? I ended up cancelling my nomad watch stand. I wasn't happy with the delay and i wanted to go a different route. I want something that has both an apple watch and iPhone charger in one. Anything like that out there that is shipping now?

Yes, that is a 42mm watch in the photos and video. We designed and prototyped the stand without ever having an actual watch in hand so the cutout will be slightly modified for production to follow the natural lines of the watch better. The 38mm will naturally leave some extra space.

When we tested watched in the Apple store the bands tended to naturally wrap around the stand on their own. For the photo shoot we secured the bands behind the dock. We're experimenting with a few different solutions to hold the bands in place that won't take away from the aesthetics or add any extra difficulty in docking the watch.

Knowing how crucial it is to have extra charging cables when mobile devices run out of juice we came to the conclusion that it made sense to just include the extra Magnetic Charging Disc.

Thanks for the questions!

Totally understandable! There are quite a few docking solutions that we really like the look of as well.

We feel that our price is very competitive when the charging cables, aluminum, and only requiring a single outlet are taken into account.

We will be refining the cutout on the front of Unify Dock to better match the curve of the Apple Watch so when it's docked to the charger it will not be touching the metal portion of the dock at all. The risk does still exist that it may bump against the shell when you dock the watch.

We have a few photos on Twitter with a 38mm watch, but that was without a charging disc installed so it doesn't fully show how it would look unfortunately.

We will be getting our prototype anodized in space gray within the next week, not sure if we'll have an example of the gold prior to the campaign ending, sorry!

I mean in the sense that it is quite slippery and there is not a whole lot of weight to prevent it potentially sliding off the surface also it is a bit fiddly trying to put the watch on such a small contact patch that close to a surface.

This is just what I have found and makes me wish Apple and shipped a charger stand as standard with the watch like Motorola do with the 360.

Just got my Watchstand from Griffin delivered.

Whoa, I thought it wasn't shipping for another 1-2 weeks? I've ordered one too and that what it said on the confirmation.

+ please post as many pics of this stand as you can mate :D

Hi, I am very much interested in the Unify but have two questions:

1) I am concerned about the metal-metal contact on the side of the watch face when it is placed in the stand. I have a 42mm stainless steel apple watch that is more prone to scratches and thus want to ensure no such damage will off. How can/will you prevent scratches with the metal-metal contact that has to occur through your solution?
2)If you fail to reach your target I receive my money back?

When the watch is fully docked there is no metal on metal contact. The only contact that may occur would be during the docking process when you place the watch onto the magnetic charging disc. Additionally, Unify Dock will be anodized so the surface will not be bare aluminum further reducing the risk that you scratch your watch. However, we obviously cannot guarantee that scratching the watch is impossible.

The way that Kickstarter works, is that we have to raise the full amount of our funding goal, in this case $40k. If we reach that goal then your credit card is charged and we push forward and deliver Unify Dock to all our backers. If we don't reach our funding goal your card is never charged and we have to regroup on our end.

Hope that answers your questions!

I ordered this cheap one from Amazon until more stands have a chance to come out. All the ones that appeal to me right now are too expensive. For $12, why not? plus, it may end up being my work desk one and then I'll get a nicer one for home.

NOTE: disregard some of the reviews, apparently this is the same page as some watch bands. The watch bands received some bad reviews but the 2 reviews for the stand are 5 star.

I ordered a Spigen stand because it is only $19.99 on Amazon and like you I figure I can use it in the short term and when I get a permanent solution it will become a stand for my desk at work. Hopefully they deliver starting May 8th like they've promised.

Thanks for the reply.

I was more than satisfied with your answers and was about to pledge $119 for one in space grey but then I learned that it would cost an additional $80 to have ti shipped to the UK . I like the stand a lot but I'm not willing to pay $200 USD (£130 GBP) for a dock, sorry.

I have the Griffin Watchstand on order (about £20 GBP) and I'll wait for some cheaper iPhone/Watch docks to become available.

Completely understand! We're finding that the price point is a bit of a sticking point so we may need to reassess and put in some work to bring the production cost down with some design changes.

We were incredibly surprised ourselves at the cost to ship overseas when we went out collecting rates. We think the cost should be reduced at higher quantities, but unfortunately not at the launch levels we are aiming for.

Thank you for the candid feedback, can't tell you how valuable it is!

I'm not sure to be honest. I won't spend more that $50, and I'm trying to decide if I want a phone/watch charging combo or not. I think $20-$30 is the right price point for me (for either type of stand). However, I do want to wait for more options to come to market before dropping any more money on them.

I did really like this one! I have a Space Gray watch that I'll be keeping, so I'm kind of hoping for a Space Gray aluminum stand, that's why I didn't order this one yet. But I almost pulled the trigger

Completely understood, I'll be keeping an eye on this product because it is by FAR the most appealing dock I have seen to date for iPhone and watch and if the price should come down to a point that I am willing to pay I will grab it with both hands!

Good luck :D

Thank you for the answer! Would the inclusion of a charging disc, leaving yours free to be kept elsewhere (office, bag, etc.) convince you to spend between $75-$80?

Thanks! We really did put a lot of thought into the overall look and aesthetics of Unify Dock. What price point would you put us in? (Understanding that shipping cost has a huge impact)

perhaps, but I'm not quite sure. I have another charging cable on order from Apple, but saving $30 on one of these would be beneficial. Maybe now I'd be in the $60 range ;)
