I'm not sure I understand your main concern. What is stopping you from positioning the Apple Watch with the Digital Crown and "friends" button facing down?
I think those that want to use the "alarm clock mode" of the watch want to be able to do the typical slap of the snooze button without actually waking up. (this would necessitate the buttons facing up).

(hope none that plan on this have ceramic tile floors in their bedrooms) :)

I made a typo, I meant why can't they have the digital crown and friends button facing up? There is nothing in the design that limits the orientation.

It was suggested that the magnet isn't strong enough to both support the weight of the watch in addition to the pressing (or slapping) of the snooze button - that the watch would likely come off of the charger as there's no supporting "lip" underneath to provide additional support. Me, I'm not invested in the debate - I'm quite happy with my Spigen. :)

I really like the functionality and looks of the Night Stand by EvelvationLab, but I have a couple of concerns with it. ... And, I wonder if the watches will simply slide off the face of that unit when someone hits the button because the magnets on the charger are not all THAT strong. ...

In case anyone isn't aware, Elevation Lab say that the NightStand isn't suitable for link bracelet watches (I'm not sure it said that previously and nor is @mcdj).

"Recommended for all bands except the stainless link bracelet."

http://www.elevationlab.com/products/night-stand

Now that I've requested a return, I was informed by Elevation that the product page mentions that the stand is not made for the link bracelet. It does indeed say that NOW. I do not recall it saying that when I ordered a couple of weeks ago.

Ah, got it. I was looking in this part "So, someone fumbling around to hit a button a small device to silence an alarm will probably be looking to hit the buttons at the TOP of the watch, not the bottom." It seemed like iBigHouse was getting hung up on the orientation when the watch can really be placed either way.

Knocking it off the charger is a valid concern though. I printed off another stand that is an Apple Watch/iPhone stand. Still haven't run the charging cables through it though. Here's a pic of what it's supposed to look like (I snagged this image from thingverse)

My original concern was that it would be easily knocked off the charger if I put the buttons facing upward. So it's stopping me from ordering the unit. I mentioned this in an earlier post and I even wrote the makers. They are passing my suggestion about putting a "safety ledge" along to their people.

This would also solve the link bracelet problem with the added weight- allowing the watch body to rest in a safety ledge groove that would extnd out a bit and cup the bottom of the watch. The change to their design would be minimal and THEN I could own one without thinking that I might knock the watch onto the glass topped nightstand and break something.

Edit: I see in the dedicatd thread that someone photoshopped the stand to include a safety ledge:

Still not sure if that ledge would provide enough support. It looks like it needs to stick out a little further. Its not even the width of the watch!

I'm going to test out the iPhone/Apple watch stand tonight to see how it goes. I'm sure you can find someone selling something similar, or someone who will make it for you.

Ok so got the Nomad ripoff through today and have to say for a early copy it's pretty well made. A few points to note it's not aluminium it's acrylic (not a bad thing as no chance of scratching the watch on it). Also there's no counterweight in the base but seems to have a better cable run on it as there's no cutout showing on the front where the cord meets the magnetic puck. All in all great for £14.99 off ebay UK. Pics and link below.

That hangs so close to the edge. What size watch do you have on it?

Those look really nice! I'm almost sorry I don't have a use for a second stand. Good luck!

Thank you! We are very excited and proud of the final product.

We have improved on it by eliminating the need for any tools to install the magnetic charging head.
Our manufacturing partner is so excited and confident of our success they have done a small production test run to make sure we have no delays in getting them out to our backers.

Any assistance anyone could give by helping spread the word and the kickstarter link is greatly appreciated!

Good luck with the kickstarter but that campaign video is horrible

Thanks,
We (I) will keep that in mind for the next. If it was in the budget to pay a professional for a video, we would of, but it wasnt, so we made do. I hope the product speaks for itself and the video gets its point across.
Im definitely not an actor or videographer! Haha

Just got my eBay stand from China. Super cheap and works well soft silicone and the charger fits perfect.

We just launched a kickstarter for the Ascension Dock. Please check it out and feel free to give us any suggestions or comments!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1484805756/ascension-dock-charging-dock-for-your-apple-watch

good luck with your campaign, but do think 22k are realistic? and exactly, the adhension dock looks like a cheaper bandstand :/

I personally dont like those china stands made from silicon or plastic. i pay so much money for the watch, so the stand should be made of metal or wood.

Looks ok. The only thing it seems to have in common with the Ascension dock is the swivel.

I dunno, they're not really that different. I'd like to see new stands going for a more stylish, individual design rather than just more or less copying one that exists.

I think Nomad, whom I won't give money to, had one of the most aesthetically pleasing stands with their original design.

I already have a stand but I'm keeping an eye out for something with a beautiful design to replace it.
