Lol this comment keeps coming up over and over again. On FineWoven, lightly dragging your fingernail results in a scratch that is basically perm.

Leather you have to use more force. And even then, you can wipe it off or make it less noticable.

Apples leather cases were horrible quality too but the patina, the solid buttons made it somewhat worth it.

A $59 replacement with all these QC issues is not very acceptable and the public are speaking up. It isnt just macrumors, its several forums/twitter/Reddit etc.

People have access to a free market filled with cases. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy an Apple case. Don't like it? Don't buy it. Simple. But quit with the victim stance.

I'm wondering why they just didn't go with vegan leather as the replacement for the leather case. Many auto manufacturers use this and in some instances, the vegan leather is more durable than the real thing (speaking from experience, my 2011 car has synthetic leather and it still looks great).
Maybe it works inside a car, where you just sit on it and don't move much. I've had two vegan leather bags, one from Levis and another from Camel Active, and they ended up self-destructing after a few years (seemingly the same way, and it does come down to either the upper layer tearing from friction, or the rubbery substrate breaking down from heat or plain old age (or both).

we mock them for the wheels on the pro, they at least do there job, this case is so trash it should never have left the factory with there logo on it

A case is a case on a phone... to protect a phone. Nobody ever said that the case should protect itself.

I'd play the environment card, but the FineWoven cases still have a plastic interior, so how environmentally-friendly is it? A step in the right direction, along with a compromise on material resilience?

Lol why are you telling me? I like my FineWoven case. Love the material. The wobbly buttons and misaligned cutouts are unacceptable for a $60 case. Apple needs to do better and the public are speaking up. Macrumors wouldnt have posted this article if there wasnt such a huge outcry.

My buddy works at the apple store and told me they have to replace every display case 2x a day because of how messed up they look. 2x a day.

I know Apple has a massive fanboy stance in this group but this hard to defend.

That could be true but knowing Apple, im sure their marketing team could have come up with something like...

xx% more durable than leather
more premium feel
carefully selected premium materials
with the word "revolutionary" thrown in there somewhere hehehe
etc etc...
Exactly. And they made those claims regarding this product in particular, which obviously don't seem to hold up to scrutiny.

No. I don't think Apple's reputation is at risk over a phone case.
Well, I do think it kind of is. It's a bit concerning that there are people on their materials engineering team wasting time with stupid products like this, but especially that upper management doesn't put the kibosh on them when they're patently not up to snuff or, even worse, are forcing the teams to do so as a form of greenwashing. Apple fails a lot internally, and that is to be expected, but what happened to Steve's “thousand no's for every yes”? 🤔

I’m not for killing animals just for the sake of accessorizing things, but considering the number of animals that are being used for food, is all that potential leather just being thrown out now? How is that any better?

Secondly, Apple should stop changing the size of their phones so that we can keep reusing our cases from generation to generation.
There would be no progress if things remained the same size. The rear camera bump gets bigger as technology improves. Do you really think the 15 series rear camera tech can be made the size as the 12 or 13? Moving the speaker to the top to make room for dynamic island required a new case. Do you still want everything to have the notch instead? The 15 series has an action button which required a new case because you want a button and not just a hole and some case manufactures realized that so they have new versions coming out with the button.

I'm for sure in the minority here, but I originally preferred leather from the first case available. However I quickly changed to using silicon cases for the same reasons. The leather cases scratched easily, stained easily, and looked worn far before I'd prefer. Truth be told, I can scratch any of the cases in the lineup, as well as most competitors other than those made of ballistic plastics. Keys, nails, or the random object in a pocket has been the cause of many of cases to get nicked, scratched, chipped, etc. If it's not your cup of tea, go with silicon, or one of the countless knock-offs. Personally I applaud Apple for actually caring enough about the environment to attempt to make the change. Sometimes 10 steps forward begin with one step back. I'm okay with it.

I don't understand all the sturm and drang over this issue. If you don't like it, buy something else. What a bunch of whiners !

As for myself, I will continue with the TwelveSouth BookBook leather wallet case for the iPhone 15 Pro Max that I've used on every iPhone I've had since my iPhone 4S.
How are you suppose to understand if you dont even own the case? Lol.

Its simple..Apple touted a new case that is prem, luxurious, revolutionary. Its $60. The case is hot garbage, cutouts do not even align on most which you cant find for $4 on Amazon. Within days the case looks like it has been used for months. Apple has even sent out updated talking points to tech support bc of all the calls.

Its pretty easy to understand....

honestly the notch is in practicality better than the island. The notch had the UI designed around it. The notch didn't interuapt touch controls on gameplay. The dynamic island literaly takes up more space than it should. It's not a progression of the notch. It's what I imagine existed BEFOR the notch. And progressively moving up the screen with each generation, then disappearing altogether.

But we got the exact opposite. The notch fell, and took a huge chunk of our screens with it.
It’s regression. It’s not innovation.
When an android phone on the market can literally be under the screen and turn the pixels off when the camera is in use, why can’t a far more expensive far more capable iPhone do something similar.

Apple wanted to be unique. And well it’s like having a massive mole on your forehead. Everyone’s gonna notice.

To be honest, the Twitter pic in the post showing the “after one day at Apple retail” how these cases look, they look like people picked them and purposely tested their limits by scratching and scraping. I am sure leather cases would look similar if not worst if someone scratched it with a fingernail.

Though I will say it could be better.
