Using AF 27.11 and something must have changed with youtube today, the video became very slow and laggy even though audio is ok. It wasn't like this yesterday. It's the same thing with other "alternative" browsers like Spiderweb. With Nightly it runs ok. Has anyone else noticed this?

Something is going on but I don't have the ability to tell you what. However, my crippled version of MPV is working great.

mpv youtube // someyoutubeurl

Thanks. There is something annoying about the override method though: when you switch to another tab, the youtube tab stops playing (when you have music playing as background for example and don't need to see the youtube screen). Any idea how to fix that?

This happens when you use a mobile user agent. It happens on my iPhone as well. No idea how to fix it unfortunately.

Goodfolks, please see my posts, starting from #1053 on page 43. As soon as the YT video starts downloading you can shut the tab, open other YT tabs, repeat the same procedure as many times as you need to and watch them at your leisure with the player that's most convenient (QT, QT7, VLC). The only thing that takes a bit of time time is loading the YT tab itself — haven't figured out whether this depends on AF itself or on the presence of SaveTube. If you're dying to both watch the video in the browser and download it, there's ViewTube by the same developer.

Another annoying thing with the mobile youtube is that you can't fast forward the video... at least I haven't found the way to do it..

Update on unsuccessful install of AF 39…

With a bit of time at hand, I thought I'd give it another try.

Worth noting: all this was on a "new" (second-hand, but apparently never used) MacBook Pro 2011 with a slightly different hardware configuration, purchased at the end of last year. However, the system configuration, cloned with SuperDuper!, is the same as that of my "old" 2011.

First, I removed from their respective locations and stashed away:

1. Arctic Fox 27.11;
2. the full Arctic Fox folder located inside ~/Library/Application Support (contains the Profiles);
3. the file org.mozilla.arctic fox.plist from ~/Library/Preferences.

Launched v.39: crash. However, it crashed "only" once, whereupon it started normally — as a totally “virgin” version of course. In the process, 2. and 3. (above) were created anew. I then did what seemed like a bright idea: emptied the contents of the newly created Profile folder, and copied into it the contents of the old one (removed previously). But the result was the same series of repeated crashes ending up with a "virgin" version, as described by several posters.

I then repeated the whole experiment, this time in Safe Boot. And ended up with exactly the same results.

If someone could forward this on GitHub...

Bug fix release is now available.
Sadly, same pattern of repeated crashes. Only one slight difference at the end:

You can file an issue/bug report on GitHub. There is already a thread about the crashes on 10.6 there that can be added to. Wish i had a better answer, but since i dont work on AF any longer i dont really have one.

Cheers

Wicknix, does SpiderWeb offer effective ad-blocking for YouTube? I've been looking for a way to go back to ad-free YouTube viewing as the ad frequency seems to have doubled lately. I tried to get Arctic Fox to work with ad-blocking but never managed it. I had some other things to worry about, so I stopped working on it for a while, but I've come back to it as the ads have grown more annoying. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Also, I'd like to be able to install the Session Manager add-on so I can transfer over my tab set. I can do it manually, but it would be nice to do it in one sweep.

There is a villainous web site builder lurking out there, ready to block access for you all. It's name is (wait for it)...
WiX
IKR? This couldn't be our WickniX, could it? (I mean, I know he's not Mel Gibson, but ... a 5th columnist from the dark side??) Anyhooo, this is what they doo too yooo –
Using any browser on Snow Leopard (even your fancy ones), try these sites:
https://pdpseven.wixsite.com
https://www.wicab.com
https://www.magnt.net.au/
At first, the pages start to load but are soon obscured by the familiar page block:
WiX.jpg

(The message attached is my own, sent to WiX under the guise of "reporting abuse")

The last link, above, is for the main Galleries and Museums of the Northern Territory, Australia. When I attempted to email them, the letters were Mailer-Daemoned back with the message:
550: 5.7.1 Phish_Test_267 Policy control on Wix sites
First I thought they had blocked my IP address, but with the same results, using Yahoo then Gmail on different machines, I reckon Wix.com simply strangles anything it gets its tentacles around.

Here's a few details. If you block the javascript of the main site (using NoScript or uMatrix), all the text will load properly. So you can read the site, but all the pictures are heavily blurred. Even logos of Facebook & Twitter are mere smudges. Site navigation could be a problem too, I imagine.
Looking at their code, Wix seems to use parastorage.com to store images, though I don't have the skill to detect how they control it. There are several lines (57 to 61) marked <!-- Old Browsers Deprecation -->. Copy-pasted, they yielded several pages of simple text document. TLDR.

If I were Wicknix, I would sue.

BUT WORSE WAS YET TO COME...

The National Gallery of Victoria is now off the air. More terrible than the Tate, or the Art Gallery of NSW (previously mentioned on this thread).
https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/ -------> Error code: SSL_ERROR_PROTOCOL_VERSION_ALERT

i pestered the gallery, their tech department, and the government Ministry ("for Cultural Industries", whatever that means). Eventually, Alison from IT got back, pitying me for my antique software and citing security and privacy concerns. I replied that Interweb on Snow Leopard can safely cavort round bank sites, making secure transactions willy-nilly. I also noted her site won't load with Safari in El Capitan; other browsers can load it, but none can download a complete page, pictures and all. Peeking out the edge of each page is the enCAPTCHA logo, a subsidiary of well-known internet bully Google, recently responsible for cutting search functions for browsers it doesn't like. Suggesting this was where their error lay, I let Alison know hers is THE WORST GALLERY WEBSITE IN THE WORLD!
Well, it is.

I'm going to go back to trying to get AF to work and block ads. What is the current set-up I should be using, especially which adblocking add-on I need. I'll double-check, but I think I'm using AF 27.10.

Edit: By the way, I tried to open Wicknix's Google.Drive file of add-ons and it would open in ANY browser I'm using on an up-to-date Windows laptop with up-to-date Chrome and Edge. Google tells me I need to 'update' my browser. All this specificity required by websites is BS.

Only the 39.2.mac64 version attempts to open, the other one being declared incompatible. Unfortunately, it immediately led to the very same pattern of repeated crashes experienced with all new versions since 27.11. Interestingly, afterwards I got it to launch without crashing after removing the existing profiles.ini file. It then asked if I wanted to import from Safari or Chrome, but having neither one, the result was a totally naked installation. Might it be an idea to give the possibility to import from... Arctic Fox?

P.S. Attempting to create a GitHub login in order to post is impossible with this AF (sort of freezes the page). So if someone already active there was kind enough to report the last bit about profiles.ini on my behalf, that would be much appreciated!

Has anyone tried watching YouTube ad-free with this latest version? I haven't had time to mess with it, but SpiderWeb browser wouldn't work for me.

As I've mentioned, all I want to basically do is watch YouTube ad-free on a Mac Mini.

Edit: Any recommendations as to whether I should use the the first .dmg or the 64-bit .dmg? And just to check, I can install this over my current AF installation? Thanks.

And I tried the google.doc file after updating Chrome again (on Windows 10) and it still tells me I have to update my browser, which makes no sense.

I installed this (64-bit version) on my mid-2010 2.66 GHz 8 GB of Ram Mac Mini with Snow Leopard and while it launched, using it to play YouTube gave video with no sound. Also, the way the page displayed was a bit skewed and the cursor would disappear when it was over the video window (but would appear and respond over the margins, etc.). Not sure what the issue is.

Great news AF 39.2 (64 bit) launches without an initial crash and appears to be working (including bookmarks, history etc.) on my 10.6.8 system unlike 39.1 which always failed to launch.....but see below about YouTube videos....

Many thanks Riccardo and wicknix! ??

BTW AF 39.2 (32 bit) crashes on launching. The icon appears, does a few bounces, and then disappears.....

One or more of the changes in AF 39.2 (64 bit) have made the difference.....

However, while YouTube videos play without any stuttering, there is no sound and apart from the progress bar, time and full screen icon, the volume control and other settings along the bottom are all missing.....

I am not too surprised with AF having issues with playing videos e.g. YouTube, or not even playing videos e.g. dailymotion, and with rendering some web sites properly; e.g. showing pop-windows etc.....I am just pleased that it is running again for what I use it for....
