I'm tempted for sure... I absolutely love my 9.7 Pro but the 10.5 looks fantastic! Probably not tempted enough to justify the price, but they really ticked the boxes on things I would like to see in my next iPad.

I haven't seen a side by side of the current 9.7 Pro and the 10.5... is the size difference very noticeable? All the photos I've seen the 10.5 looks more like a miniature 12.9 Pro.

I am awaiting a side by side of the 10.5 versus the 12.9 I already have. I would go smaller with the better specs of the 10.5 ONLY IF I could live with the smaller size.

From my understanding, it sounds like the displays for the new iPads will be available on Monday in Apple stores. At least, I can say that Regarding the stores in my area.

Care to elaborate? My understanding is a work order needs to be in place for installation and that installation happens overnight, not during working hours. So maybe Monday installation, Tuesday on display. Just speculating. I doubt they would install Sunday night.

What is there to elaborate on? I was in two Apple Stores and I was told directly by one store manager and another employee at the other store, that The news iPads will be on display on Monday morning. Your store or other store(s) may vary.

Good enough for me, thanks for that specific info. Maybe elaborate was not my right choice of wording.

I was not told that specifically at my local stores. They would not commit to any day.

It is not the iPad Pro 9.7 specifically that is lacking, but IOS and iPad for the type of work I do. I really wished I would have taken my MacBook Pro along. Due some issues at work I ended up having to do a lot typing of documents, editing code online and compiling on remote system, etc. A real keyboard and mouse would have been great, not to mention having a development environment on a laptop.

A tablet isn't for you if you need to do coding

Agreed, but that was not the plan. I was hoping to have a nice trip with some reading books, watching YouTube, and cruising down rivers. But then life interferes. The problem for me with only having a tablet is that when I needed to go to the next level, the tablet was unable to do it.

I have an iPad Air 2 and yes I am little bit tempted to get the new iPad Pro 10.5 and want it as well.

Even tho it will definitely be more of a upgrade then the Pro 9.7 did last year considering the new features and much more better and powerful hardware under the new iPad Pro 10.5 but I won't upgrade just yet, I think I will wait maybe next year to get the new iPad Pro 10.5 as my iPad Air 2 is fine and still a powerful and a BEAST of a tablet and I am very happy with the Air 2 at the moment. :)

And if I was doing heavy content creation like video/photo editing and play really high demanding graphics intensive games then I most probably get the new iPad Pro 10.5 right now but I don't as I do mostly casual things like web browsing, watching videos, playing games etc, So my iPad Air 2 still does the job more good enough at the moment but even with more demanding things video/photo editing the iPad Air 2 will still be powerful enough and will get those tasks done without a problem and still fast and efficient enough but of course not as fast/efficient compared to the new iPad Pros.

So most probably next year I will get the new iPad Pro 10.5 or the 2nd gen/next version Pro 10.5. :D:D

What promotion?

It's ProMotion: a new technology that delivers refresh rates of up to 120Hz for fluid scrolling, greater responsiveness and smoother motion content. With ProMotion, Apple Pencil is even more responsive with an industry-best, 20-millisecond latency for even more fluid and natural drawing. ProMotion also improves display quality and reduces power consumption by automatically adjusting the display refresh rate to match the movement of the content.

Oh, pro-motion. I read it as promotion, as in sale. I thought maybe there was some place selling at discount.

Thanks.

I took the leap and got the 10.5 after having the 9.7. I will say the screen size is very noticeable, and ProMotion is amazing as well. I will say I disagree with people saying that is reason to upgrade to the new 10.5. While ProMotion is amazing and the refresh rate is outstanding, it's not compelling enough to be the reason I switch. I am not one of those people saying I now wish my iPhone had it. Sure it would be a nice addition, but if I went back to using my iPad 9.7 again, I would have no problem adjusting back to not having ProMotion. To me it's just a luxury. The reason I upgraded was the incoming iOS 11. I wanted the bigger screen for it, plus the added RAM. Again I don't think the 9.7 pro will be slow, but I think these new pros were built for it and the future iOS upgrades. That is what sold me.

If it wasn't for the 512GB option, I wouldn't have been.

Side thought. I wonder if the iPhone 8 will have a 512GB option? That would be SICK.

I upgraded as well mainly for the 512GB. My 9.7 Pro was a 256 with about 12GB free and thats without any media on it. Thats all apps and games.

Some people think I have technology issues

I just got the 10.5 while having 9.7 pro. The good thing is that the 9.7 keyboard works with 10.5. Maybe it is not perfect as a cover as there is around 5 mm gap around, but I got a smart cover too, so I will just carry the 9.7 keyboard in addition to 10.5 smart cover. Too early to say anything about performance, but as 9.7 has already a new owner, there was a reason for double upgrade. And yes, you can read the text while scrolling, which was not a case with 9.7.

My coworker got his 10.5" pro yesterday and he let me play with it for a few mins. The bigger screen is nice but it's not enough of a jump from 9.7" to make make me want to switch. Likewise, the higher refresh rate is nice. But, it's not a night and day difference over my 9.7" and I never felt like there was anything wrong with the 60 Hz refresh rate. Really, the main thing I noticed is that it was heavier than the 9.7" pro I currently own. I know it's only a few grams heavier, but every little bit counts when you're talking about a device that weighs around a a pound. I'm definitely not eager to go up in weight and the other features aren't enough to drive me to upgrade right now. So I plan to stay with my trusty 9.7" pro for at least another year.

All that being said, there is one thing that might push me to upgrade: the 4 GB of RAM in the 10.5" vs the 2 GB in the 9.7" pro. With iOS 11's vastly enhanced multitasking abilities, devices with more RAM are going to do much better. If multitasking on the 9.7" pro suffers from chronic app crashes and reloads due to the 2 GB of RAM, I may upgrade early. I use split view all the time in iOS 9-10 with no problem but that may change with iOS 11. But I'll be waiting until the public release in the fall before making any decisions. Perfectly happy with my 9.7" pro otherwise!

Your reasons are the same for me, but I went ahead and jumped on the 10.5 thinking it would be struggling a bit when iOS 11 comes out. I think the screen size was a bigger upgrade then I thought, but not enough to be the sole reason I upgraded.

To be honest, I’m unimpressed by the 10.5. Sure its “Apples Best iPad Yet”. But for a complete redesign then it feels like a baby step when it should have been a leap.

10.5 screen! - Bigger is better. But when did anyone ever complain that 9.7 is the “wrong” size?
Less Big Bezel! - Less is nice and it still allows grip space. But aesthetically it still looks the same.
120hz! - A great feature... but its the answer to a problem nobody ever had
Full Size Keyboard! - Did anyone ever say “If only the on-screen keys were 2mm bigger”
Better Camera! - Capture the moment with an amazing camera... while ruining the moment for the people behind you

Please note that I’m not slamming the 10.5. It a nice but isn't it missing a few things?

Taptic Engine - Apple amazing Taptic improve the user experience. So where is it?
Force Touch - Omitting this creates an inconsistency to Apples User Experience
New TouchID - A mechanical Home Button just feels outdated.
Higher Power Charger - The current charger seems underpowered for the Pros
Pencil Management - A redesign should have put consideration on where to put a pencil

Again. Great machine but considering how old the 9.7” design is then its not unreasonable to expect that when a product gets a complete reimagining then it will actually catch up to the features on other devices.

Yeah I think I will wait until iOS 11 actually drops before shelling out the cash for a new device since it probably will turn out not to be necessary. I'm also hopeful there will be sales on the new pro as we get into the holiday season. But, if it turns out apps are constantly reloading the way safari tabs used to on the old 1 GB RAM iPads, I will probably upgrade. It's a shame Apple decided to gimp the 9.7" pro with only 2 GB of RAM when the 12.9" got 4 GB and it was clear that 2 GB wouldn't be enough in the not-too-distant future.

Yep I totally agree. I usually jump on the first new device, so I think that played a large part in me getting the new iPad. I think you should be fine with the 9.7, and in so many way I see no difference. I think the iPad 10.5 is a future device that won't see it's need until months down the road. iOS 11 will bring it to life, and we should see HDR video streaming by then. Right now it seems just seems like a bigger screen.
