Are you embarrassed to use the Air in public?

  • Unfortunately, yes, I’ve had this feeling.

  • Absolutely not! I’m a proud Air user.

I have not sensed that all. I am sure 99% of the forum members would say they have sensed this either. I think we are looking at a deeper issue here with you personally if you don’t me saying when you brought up this topic and started this thread.

Are you really okay?
Yes, I’m fine, thanks for asking. 😊 Still, I’d argue that many people, even if they don’t want to admit it, do feel bad when others diss them for owning an Air or for liking the Air. And check out the results of this poll. They’re far from being something like 1% vs 99%.

I'd be embarrassed. Trade-in programs give $1,100 off Pro phones but just $800 off the Air phones which actually makes the iPhone Air more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max. So knowing that, I would feel a split moment of second-hand embarrassment knowing that someone opted-in to pay more for a worse iPhone.
Do you walk up to randoms and ask if they made use of the trade in program?

I’d feel second hand embarrassment for YOU in that situation, not them

no problem, I don't care I have a burner flip phone I use for some calls - I don't notice people giving me the look over that so an iPhone air certainly not most figure it was the phone available when I needed a new phone

There’s been an unfortunate amount of negative chatter about the Air lately, and Pro (Max) users in particular (not all of them, of course) often seem eager to prove it shouldn’t even exist. So here’s a question for Air users: have you ever caught yourself, while using your Air in public, feeling a little embarrassed that someone might see you with this so-called “compromise” phone?
Man the threads on MR what heck.

Though I happily use my iPhone 13-min on-the-daily, I am aware that >60% of the personal phones I see others use have three-cameras on the back (e.g., iPhone "Pro", or Galaxy Sxx.yy).

I do not feel inadequate, nor do I feel it necessary to give a shout-out to those three-camera-phone users (or those who find themselves enjoying their foldables).

Our relationships do not orbit around the technology we choose to use.

Aside from the utter pointlessness of the entire thread, you should probably stop relying on the poll results here to back up any argument whatsoever. They are unscientific at best. An online poll with only two available responses, of a self-selected group (137 poll respondents) within another self selected group (MR forum members) that is a vanishingly small percentage - one could easily say not representative - of the much larger number of Air owners. You actually don't even know for a fact whether any of those poll respondents even have an Air. You don't even know whether every one of those replies is trolling you.

The poll may have some entertainment value for you, but drawing any conclusions about the actual feelings or behavior of Air owners from the "results" it shows is a fool's errand.

The Air is a flex, if anything. It says “I’m not someone who’s so addicted to my phone that I need to be on it 24/7, and I don’t use it for work”.

It also says “I’m willing to pay more for style points alone”. It’s classic Apple. Nobody buying a white Macbook in the 2000s was doing so because it had the best specs of any laptop at the price 🤷🏼‍♀️

I have checked the results and I am confident those who are voting are voting for the sake of entertainment (if we can even call this thread that) purposes.

This got to be one of the most ridiculous posts ever ... Congrats OP.

I feel embarrassed to respond, but it keeps popping up in the forum list.

Fortunately I know a way to prevent that from happening going forward. Good bye OP.

When I have to answer my phone I make sure I huddle in a corner and keep my back turned to the public and put my hood up, don’t want anyone to notice I’m using the air. It’s embarrassing enough as it is owning it without others noticing! 😳.

On a serious note, the Air is the best looking iPhone in my opinion since the iPhone X. 😁

If i were you I would just use the Apple Watch for calls and not even have to take the air out haha

What kind of poll is this.

I would assume most people responding negatively here (which is most people) didn't vote in the poll at all because they thought it was silly.

You are trying to apply this niche, online thing to real life. Most people don't know what the Air is in the first place. I've had the Air since launch day and I don't think a single person has even looked at it. Nobody cares.

i have never been "proud" or "ashamed" about using any mobile i have ever used.
including using my Air.
i do "like" my choice of mobile. i do "enjoy" my choice.

Service industry here. Work-issued iPhone and Otter case that've been beaten to Hades and back. Definitely not getting any trade-in value for it...

If anyone's noticing, they're probably surprised it works at all.
