My next phone will either be next years Max phone (non pro), or the SE Plus if it gets released with a home button (basically an upgraded 8 Plus).

In short - No.

That virtual event will have to show something just incredible or some insane feature that the leaks and rumors haven't mentioned in order to convince me to buy the iPhone 13. To me, just based on the rumors, and pretty credible rumors at that, this looks to be another year of incremental advances and no feature screams "Upgrade Now!"

The iPhone 14, on the other hand though, seems like a worthwhile upgrade for those of us who bought the 1st Gen OLED iPhone, the iPhone X:
  • No notch - this alone...
  • under-display Touch ID + Face ID
  • all models: ProMotion/120 Hz displays, whereas only the iPhone 13 "Pro" models (13 Pro and 13 Pro Max) may have ProMotion displays.

12 Pro Max was only available in November. And this tiny upgrade does a lot of things, but not make me 'excited'. I guess it would be different if I were on a 7 or 8plus or something.

Yes, excited about getting 13 pro or max. Have the 12 mini, great phone but battery has me hankerin for an upgrade. Plus promotion, camera and a new color are exciting. I’m really thinking about going pro max unless folks w 12 pro max experience would advise against it.

Nope. Not excited at all. At the end of the day it will be just another smartphone.
Another iPhone that will be able to make phone calls via satellite and no signal around 😶‍🌫️

Newer iPhones are no lo ger interesting, especially since the only thing Apple can do is increase the price. At more than $1000, you can put in any tech you want.

More interested in the Apple Silicon Macs.
Right on the $$$, the redesign has me so hyped….

I sometimes have dreams about it…what can Apple do to totally blow us away?

I get the same giddy feelings those months before Jonny Ive and Gurman hinted at redesign of iOS when iOS 7 was going to be shown at WWDC…

Curious what they roll out. I will wait and see if I’ll retire my 8-plus or try to hang it on for another year.
Probably just a "12S." Basically a refined iPhone 12 with more power efficient 5G modem. The rest of improvements are a wash (faster A15 will be negated by throttling, larger battery will be negated by faster refresh rate/more power hungry GPU) when you consider the price increase. That's why Apple now do exclusive color every year, just so people can tell other people they are having a newer iPhone.

The best deal this year will be the reduced price of the iPhone 12.

From the rumors I’ve read, camera improvements sound like the biggest upgrades. Depending on how it is implemented, a bokeh effect in video could be big news. This combined with improved microphones could make this quite a compact powerhouse for digital nomads and vloggers.

The question that nobody will ask. Does Apple still use the same failing component from the iPhone 12 repair program in the new iPhone 13?
I can’t imagine they would. The date range for the repair I believe ran to April, so I’m assuming this means they made adjustments at that time and corrected the problem.

I actually am, I was holding on for an SE plus as I don’t really want a Face ID phone, but it doesn’t look like that will be happening now, so I’m well overdue for an upgrade from my 8+. Was hoping for under screen Touch ID but that’s now looking unlikely too but don’t think my battery is going to last another year and don’t see any value in getting it replaced vs just getting a new phone now.

Can't argue with your take on the 13. It does indeed seem like a solid but uninspiring upgrade. I actually think it will be a better upgrade than the 11 and 12, but not by much.

I was under the impression the iphone 14 will have some type of notch or hole, and the no notch is slated for 2023 based on articles on this site. (would love to read the articles that talk about no notch for next year). This would also mean no under screen FaceID and even the TouchID isn't a solid rumor at the moment.

All models promotion will be big along with an apparently much much smaller notch (bullet hole style). Plus the telescope zoom lens will be an actual camera upgrade worth upgrading for.

There was a rumor that this year's phone could get FaceID system that unlocks with a mask on. It was a wishy washy rumor so I'm not putting too much hope into it, but that could be on the way next year or it could just be bogus.

It's really disappointing that Apple is doing nothing this year about the situation with FaceID and masks apart from Watch unlock. But that doesn't help with Apps, just the actual phone.

nah because i have a 12 pro max.

i'm sure the 13 will be a great device and many people will enjoy it. it has some cool features i'd love to have but i can't justify it. only 9 months ago i spent ~£1,400 on my 12 pro max. i won't even think about replacing it until 2023 at the absolute earliest (when my AC+ expires). if i drop it the day my AC+ expires then it might make sense to buy a new phone and i will do that but i'm gonna be holding onto my phone until it is no longer fit for use (slow performance/crap battery life, etc) and it's not worth fixing or it isn't fixable. my days of replacing phones often for new stuff is over. it feels irresponsible. i'm wanting to make this phone last me 3-5 years.

i might be interested in the iPhone 14 next year just as my AC+ is about to expire and if my 12 pro max is struggling (i doubt it. still super fast with 100% battery). i might seriously consider the iPhone 15/16 though.
