Just two weeks for the announcement. Are you excited for this years iPhone?
Yep! Definitely.

It'll be a massive upgrade:
  • Far, far more powerful
  • Far, far better camera/video
  • Better battery life
  • Face ID
  • Edge to edge brighter display
  • Wireless charging/Magsafe
  • Newer more efficient WiFi and Bluetooth
  • UWB airtag searching
  • But I do lose my headphone jack. 😥 (and I have to get used to holding space to move the cursor, rather than force-touch anywhere on the keyboard)
I'm updating from a 6S. It still works pretty good, but definitely a little long in the tooth and doesn't warrant fixing the cracked screen. Is it much more exciting than last years? Nope, not by much. But then it's never that exciting as everything is largely incremental. Why it's clearly daft (and wasteful) to get a new phone every year. I don't buy a new car or laptop or bike or TV every year and same with a phone. If there is anything particularly exciting we're unlikely to know before the annoucement (e.g. mumblings of satellite emergency support). And even the big things are pretty small overall if you upgrade from a few years back.

I'd like USB C, but rumours say not til next year. Periscope camera? Maybe only coming on the Max next year. But there's always a load of little things you could wait for. Never any point waiting forever as there will always be something better coming next year, but equally no point in rushing to upgrade too soon when stuff is only ever slightly better than last year.

To be fair I could probably put up with it for another year, but I need iOS 16 if I want to run the latest version of Watch OS (and there may be slight incompatibilities with MacOS Ventura/iPadOS 16, although they may be fine - normally it takes a couple of years before they break stuff)

Having an 13 Pro Max, the answer is no, unless it had a USB C charging/data port. Rumors, and they are only rumors at this point, show a reasonable iterative upgrade but not enough to buy another lightning equipped iPhone. If I had an older iPhone, say X or earlier, then I may consider it, but the fact that the next iPhone will almost certainly move to USB C may give me pause. If Apple moved to a portless phone (wireless only connection), then that would probably be the end of Apple iPhones for me as I need a physical connection for CarPlay in one of my cars.

Yeah. My 11 Pro's battery has got real **** in the last few months so I'm going to be happy to have a new phone. Be nice to have the updated design too... mmm flat edges.
You’re lucky! My 11 Pro’s battery never was very good and the entire phone would occasionally go bonkers and heat up like it was about to explode. But that midnight green! My 11 Pro was a thing of absolute beauty!

Maybe there was an issue with the battery. I often ran the battery case on it. But I live and drive in a poor signal area and that takes a toll on every phone I have ever had when I’m away from Wi-Fi.

Actually, judging from my travels, if you’re an AT&T customer, just about everywhere has these surprising clumps of poor signal areas. I recently learned I can test out T Mobile without committing to an account and I just may take them up on that.

I’m excited about the 14 Pros. I’m probably going for the Pro Max. I’m excited about having a big battery again and eager to see if there really is a vapor chamber cooling (which I think has been needed for years). I’m excited about all the rumors so far.

56. Lol we remember these in avocado green to harmonize with the lovely earth tones of Harvest Gold appliances.
Yes! But with other brands, since I am Swedish. I also had this cool phone, see below, at home, when I was a boy. Its name is Kobra (Cobra in Swedish). Avocado green, I suppose!

I’ll let you know next week. 😉

I had no plans to upgrade my 11 Pro. It’s the perfect size, lightweight, and takes really good pictures. And I hate having to setup a new phone for work (Authenticator, Imprivata, Outlook, Sharepoint, Teams, etc.). It’s just a lot of hassle that I don’t look forward to. I recently bought a 13 for my daughter, it’s nice but larger and heavier than I would like.

But with that said, my 11 Pro is starting to show its age. There’s now a lag when I play MR videos or when I flip video orientation from portrait to landscape and back. It never used to do that before. And the battery doesn’t hold a charge like it used to. IF the rumors are realized, I just might bite the bullet.
I’m using an iPhone 11. It’s less than a year old since I got it for Christmas and it works beautifully, no lag of the kind you’re describing.

If you’re still loving your 11 Pro you may just need to do a bit of maintenance on it as it’s likely something accumulated in your software that’s causing the lag. And you probably are in need of a new battery soon.

That’s amazing! No I never saw one of those before. Yes that’s definitely the color of the inside of an avocado. We USA folks had a much darker version of that green for our avocado green.

Yes, I still think it's cool. The rotary dial is placed at the bottom. And the call was ended by the big red button, just placing the phone on the table. Forgot to mention that. The nostalgia.

I've been using Android phones for several years now. I currently own a Samsung Galaxy S10+. I was going to pull the trigger on the iPhone 13 Pro Max, but had to hold off. Now looking forward to the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Apple Watch Series 8. If the 8 isn't that much better than a 7, then I'll get the (hopefully) cheaper Series 7 45mm GPS model. Can't wait to jump back into Appleville. :)

Depends on the trade in options available.

Last year at Best Buy, if I had an iPhone 12 ProMax, I could have traded that towards a 13 Pro Max for about $150. Now that I have a 13 (coming from the XS Max), if a similar deals come for the 14 Pro Max, I gladly upgrade.

What's sad about all this is that the compact camera market has been annihilated not because the image quality has been superseded (though there are subjective arguments regarding post-processing), but because people now value convenience over larger image sensors, the flexibility of an optical zoom and the requirement to actually have patience and time to think before taking shots, rather than whipping out the phone camera and going into machine gun mode because they saw something that looked mildly interesting. I posted recently about families going to Disney World and literally pinching-to-zoom for a shot that they either queued and/or paid for with a man in a stuffed costume. The world has gone mad.
Madness is carrying around two devices in the Florida heat when one will do just fine and is a thousand times better than the camcorders people used to lug around to shoot home videos they maybe watched one time after they got home.

Nah. I had an 11 Pro Max which was an excellent phone. I only upgraded to a standard 13 because I got it for a steal of a price and 5G. Unless I had gotten that deal, I wouldn't have upgraded as 4G LTE worked fine and it being an otherwise boring upgrade. The iPhone 14 also looks to be a boring upgrade year.

I will upgrade to the 15 with USB-C.

True that. I do like my 11 Pro. Maybe I’ll attempt a reset before committing to a new purchase.

I hope it works out for you. It’s one thing if you were excited about the new iPhones and want to upgrade. But it sounds like if you can get your phone working like new again you’d still be pleased with it. If that’s the case I hope you can get it working good as new.

Oh mate, I'm going to be very sad losing the midnight green! Think I'll go back to slate/grey/graphite whatever they're calling it this time round!

I'm pretty excited to get MagSafe too, really tempted to pick up one of the MagSafe wallets and maybe the battery pack, but I'm not sure how comfy they will be to hold.

I really like my 12 Pro Max. The 14 Pro Max would have to have some really show stopper features for me to drop my 12 Pro Max. We shall see what Apple launches next week.

With all the prices spiking, not so much this year. Maybe if other things start following the gas prices down, I might jump in mid cycle.

I’m always excited for new Apple products. Even “iterative” updates always have something to get excited about.
True. A difference between excited and reasonably being able to afford. I'm always excited about MacBooks, but they are out of my range

Yes I am excited about the 14 pro max, I do freelance media and marketing as well as short films. With Apple really upgrading the camera on the phones to be rivaling some cameras used in filmmaking, it’s really appealing.

Plus, coming from an iPhone 11 Pro Max, going to the 14 pro max would feel more like an upgrade with the other things I missed out on ( bigger screen, different form factor, 5G, LiDAR, 120 refresh rates, and more).

Also plan to upgrade my series 6 Apple Watch to the rumored pro model Apple Watch (although if the rumored price of 1K is true( I might settle for the standard Apple Watch Series 8 with cellular ha).

Not quite, as my iPhone 12 Pro Max works fine, so I’m gonna stay until either 2026 or 2027

Holy crap we all gonna be 5 years older!

Life is short as a rabbits tail. If you use your iPhone daily for several hours I’d say it might be ok to upgrade sooner. But yah, they are all built so good you could use em until apple no longer supports the older models I guess.
