No, I’m not. AT least not more than for iPhone 11 Pro, that I bought.

The next “big thing” for me will be the mLED display and the death of OLED technology .
Maybe 2022 ?

Agreed, nobody I know upgrades every year...techies do like myself but most don’t.

shooting photos along with others is fun and it sparks creativity. Besides photography is my passion so it makes sens to be with others that share the same passion
 
I’m looking forward to the 12/12pro or whatever they decide to call it. Mainly because I see a total design overhaul and compelling new features as inevitable. There’s not much dividing the 11pro from the Xs from a user standpoint right now. Incrementally better processor benchmarks don’t play out to a meaningful difference in user experience IMO.

Do you really see a ‘total design overhaul’ though? What exactly are they going to do different? They may be able to reduce the notch area but it’ll likely still be a full screen glass rectangular slab. I think the introduction of different sizes will be the differential factor and I hope the iPhone 12 retains LCD to keep the price sensible. I don’t want to be forced towards OLED and a grand plus price tag.

I guess what I mean is either eliminating cords, changing to USB-C, or something similar. Plus 5G. That type of hardware change will probably require a design overhaul.

I’m not saying I care that much about how they make it look. Just that I see the feature-set of the next phone taking a significant step forward.

I’m personally not that concerned about bezels or thickness or screen resolutions or color correctness etc. I use my phone to call people, send messages, read emails, look up point-of-care reference material, and use some work supplied apps for patient care. I also have a vast iTunes music collection, and listen to music regularly using the phone. Oh, and I do use Safari and maps a fair bit when out of the house or office.

I don’t play games with my phone (other than the odd inane basic time waster when I’m on a long flight or something, and even then I usually just download a couple of free ones right before I board). I also don’t watch movies on it, it’s too small for that to be a pleasurable experience in my opinion.

so any design is going to work fine for me. I just want a 5G connection, and the continued use of the Apple ecosystem.

But I’m not excited if it will have all of them, because I will not use it enough.

10th anniversary of the iPhone 4

perfect timing

the iPhone 4S in white and iPhone 5 in black/slate are still some of my favourites, love the designs and the iPad Pro design in that style.

If by flawlessly you mean without flaw, then I have to disagree with you. I see many flaws daily. I never had to input my numeric password as much as I do with Face ID, even with the iPhone 11 Pro which didn’t seem to get any improvement from the original iPhone X.

I’m most excited for the new 5.4” size and a flat-edged design. I’m so ready to give up the X/XS/11 Pro size. It’s too unwieldy for me, personally. And I’m so thrilled to see a modern reinterpretation of the iPhone 4. I’m so happy that Apple is bringing back a one-handed device that’s comfortable to hold.

I’m also looking forward to the possibility of an always-on screen, though I hope they don’t reserve this feature for the larger Pro models. I’m less interested in many of the features that others have mentioned (5G, promotion, camera enhancements, reverse wireless charging, no notch, etc.).

USB-C would be nice, but I can live with lightning. I would, however, like to see enhancements in the effectiveness of Face ID or Touch ID under the display. I think there’s plenty of room for improvement there. And if it’s possible to squeeze out even better battery life, I’m all for it. If Apple delivers as close to an iPhone 11 Pro in a 5.4” package, it’s an instant buy for me.

I think you are right, there is not much that can be done with the hardware, it's pretty much as good as it will get. I picked up a 11 Pro+ because it works better with my hearing aids (yeh, I know) the design of this phone is superb. I come from a long line of Galaxy and Pixel phones and have loved them all. It has taken me a long while to get back to the Apple way of doing things, I'm delighted with it though. I always look forward to upgrades each year and, tbh, waste more money than I should on the latest and greatest.

I’ve lost interest with the top tier devices if I’m honest. I’m more interested in the 11 or the 12 as they seem to have all the important features IMO. I upgrade every 2 years too and my last 2 upgrades have been previous years devices. I’m probably pretty typical and less of an enthusiast as prices have creeped up. My 8+ is still a fast phone with amazing battery life, I can’t see what else they can deliver?
 
4 main things i want:

Always on display
Qualcomm 5g
120hz display
Face id and touch id combination

Bonus feature that will never happen:

LED notification light

Needs at least 5x zoom in the iPhone 12 otherwise they are seriously going to be left behind by the likes of Samsung this year!

They have been using 2x zoom since the 7 plus so it’s getting very old!

I could be incredibly wrong, as this is purely a gut feeling, but I can’t imagine that many people look at all the phones and pick the one with the best specs. I think at this point, someone has some kind of loyalty to either android or iOS, and they pick the best device WITHIN that mobile OS. Again, purely a gut, but I think the only people that select the best phone with the best specs, independent of mobile OS, are people who are loyal to android, as they have plenty of devices to choose from. I’m sure there’s a small sliver that bounce around from one OS to another, but I suspect there are WAY more people leaving android for iOS than people leaving iOS for android. I have no data it’s to rely on there. Purely a gut feeling, so I could very well be wrong.
 
I am the most excited I’ve been for an iPhone since the original, the iPhone 3G, the 4, and the iPhone 5, which is to say this is the most exciting iPhone year ever. I’ve been waiting for the beta that is the X and 11 line to come to fruition in the final of the 2020 iPhones. Let’s see what we get and hopefully waiting for 2021 won’t be necessary.

I’ve been holding on to my 8 which itself was a holdover from my SE. I’ve been waiting for a smaller phone from Apple since the 8 and I’m hoping 2020 brings the options.

What I would pay through the nose for is an iPhone SE sized phone with the maximum features including somehow a killer battery life. It’s probably not possible so I’d settle for iPhone 12 Pro.

Am I "extremely excited"? Not at all. I am, however, extremely curious (the same way I am every year) about what the 2020 iPhones will bring. I am currently using the 11 Pro and couldn't be happier with it. If the 2020 model is a significant improvement over the 11 Pro, I'll sell mine and upgrade. If not, I'll keep it for another year.

Yep. As someone who normally upgrades every year it was very hard to skip this generation and stick with my Max, so I hope it’s worth it!
