returned mine also directly to the apple engineering staff so they could fix the crappy cellular reception

I downgraded to the x. Saved half the amount I spent on the new iPhones. This is the first time since smartphones was born where I'm at peace for not needing the latest and greatest lol. The x literally feels the same as the new ones minus the camera and maybe face ID. In the last week I went from max to xs to x.

Thrilled. Just watched a 4K video in HDR on YouTube. The colors are nothing short of amazing. This is a fantastic phone.

Lies.. how did you play 4k on YouTube?

So update: can use my phone as a phone, but I can’t connect my headphones and the yahoo app doesn’t work on this phone (but does on an older phone)

I‘m so happy. The screen is bit yellow and I have to get used to the new display size (normal xs, coming from a 7) but damn I‘m happy.

It‘s a bit hard for my thumb to reach the notch areas without changing the „position“ of my hand. Even with big hands
I am not being constructive, but After a few days beside the iPHone X, I can say that I am not impressed with the Xs.
1, the yellow display, even though it is supposedly easier on the eyes.
2, the filtering of facial features. As can be seen in Dan's selfies in his camera article.

Loving our phone. Having been a Macrumors member for awhile and the love of certain users to post problems with every single device ... I've learned not to get caught up in all the hysteria and intentional dissing of Apple. Some people love to do this and post history shows it. Whatever floats their boat.

Wife and I opened our Xs Max phones last night and were pleasantly surprised. The phone flies even though we had 8+ phones previously. The screen is a HUGE wow factor over the 8+. Face ID is taking some getting used to but I like it. Battery life is impressive even coming from the 8+.

Have to laugh at the "yellow" screen thing - neither of our screens are yellow. Some maybe, but not ours. Reception? Reception seems normal or better than the 8+. When the phones were activating with Verizon, reception went to 1 bar for awhile and then popped back to normal. I had problems activating my iPhone with Verizon - for some reason their automated process couldn't get my SIM chip right, and the website had no way to change it. So had to call in, a nice rep helped me, was good to go in 2 mins.

Having no screen flickering issues at all. Absolutely LOVE the screen reading at night in bed. The phone definitely feels heavier than the 8+ but feels thinner (could have been the wallet case I used on the 8+).

I don't even notice the notch and love how reception and all that is on its own. Still getting used to swiping up constantly, but it's almost already second nature.

The A12 processor flies. I type very fast and people always comment how I do things really fast. The Xs MAX feels like the first phone that is actually faster than I am. 8+ was fast, but this phone flies and can keep up with me.

Wife absolutely loves her phone too (Xs MAX as well).

Looks like we got another winner from Apple and 2 more happy long term customers. Now we are planning on keeping these for 2-3+ years.

I’m considering switching from the Max to the XS. I got the Max because I wanted to watch video. But I’m realizing that I watch 99% of my video at home. And I have much better ways to watch videos at my house. If I’m not going to be watching video then I don’t have much of a need for the giant phone. I do realize I will miss out on a bit of battery life but idk if there’s anything else. I’ve got 7 more days to decide.

Right now? I’m very unhappy with the experience I’ve had with the XS Max. Part of it is the fact that I can’t even activate the dang phone (not entirely apple’s fault.)

My Bluetooth headphones (which connected to my 7 plus just fine) that use the 4.1 Bluetooth software aren’t even recognized by iOS 12 on the XS Max.

I also didn’t know I’d lose the battery percentage indicator. It’s a small thing, but I’d rather have the number than the picture.

Yahoo’s Fantasy Football app won’t load on this phone, but it loads just fine on the 7 plus.

I’ll have to explore more to see what else is broken.
Yahoo app loads fine for me now. I had to delete it and re-install it fresh on the max.

I went from iPhone 8 Plus to IPhone XS. Aside from a slight loss of width. It is much larger than the plus sized screen.

I chose XS as I have small hands and I can finally have a similar sized screen and be able to reach things.

My only concern is battery life. Never had any issues with 8+.

It works great but there's a yellow tint at the top half of my screen that is pretty annoying.

I would also set the night shift slider to zero on the less warm side. Even though mine wasn’t active it was still affecting the tint.

Have you noticed a significant drop from the 8+?

Went form a 6+ (now a backup) to a Max. It's a decent speed improvement. The Face ID is noticeable faster than on the X (which I lost), and the larger screen may be useful.

I don't use these all that much, but the times when I need them for maps, and web, i'm hoping this big phone will come in handy.

But time will tell.

I went to the Apple store planning on buying a Xs Max, but on handling both I found I much preferred the size of the Xs to both carry and hold - so bought the smaller Xs with no subsequent regrets (I know it was the right decision). I can see for people that want a mobile device for videos, etc then the Max will be most attractive - but I use an iPad Pro when I want a bigger screen. My iPhone is mainly a mobile device to reference on the move, a camera and to make phone calls - with 90% of my viewing (according to Screen Time) on my iPad’s.

The Xs does seem on the face of it only marginally better in performance than the X, so for most people an upgrade is not necessary, but I wanted the Xs specifically for the duel SIM to save me carrying around two phones.

Apart from my dim, slightly yellow screen, I am very happy with my XS Max. Arguably the best phone I’ve owned on either iOS or Android. BUT, the law of diminishing returns is truer than ever here. For the money I spent to get the phone, it’s hard to justify my purchase.

Love my Max. Camera is a huge improvement, screen is incredible, Face ID is fast and much easier to use than I expected. No problems to report whatsoever.

You've made an excellent point. It depends how you use your iPhone to determine what size you need. That applies to screen size and GIgabits

Went from X to XS Max - no complaints here. Actually my only "issue" is that I tend to use it even more than previous phones. The screen quality is so fantastic and the size is bordering on my (favorite for gaming) iPad Mini. So a lot of usage I might have had on the iPad Mini is slowly creeping toward the phone. The good news is I haven't had any battery life issues, but that could also be because I have wireless chargers everywhere (work, home, car). The bad news is the usage report makes me feel like I'm using it too much lol.

I don’t either. Why would I with oled screens in the house? For me the bigger screen is just more eye candy. It’s the best screen on any consumer device. Pics is the big thing. They look better on here vs the X. Typing is easier for me as well but that may vary for others.

Bad reception and low data speeds
Problem is with signal strength in certain areas. If you are in good areas it does great. Fastest iPhone yet. If majority of everyday use fits that then it’s hard not to think fantastic. Just don’t want signal problems to the far negative either even if just that 1%.

Returning my Max. Going to get a note 9......just joking why would i downgrade? ;) i been loving my max so far. No real issues to speak of besides it jumping to my 2.4 band at the house. That's been taken care of like old yeller
