Aw crap!!! It shows -115. What can or should I be doing to fix this?

See, this is where understanding what that number means becomes crucial.

That number is not caused by a defect with the phone, it is simply telling you the strength/quality of the signal the phone is receiving. It could be that you're in a very poor coverage area, there is nothing the phone can do to improve that except for you to move to a better area, sometimes that isn't the case and we deal with it.

Where this IS an issue is where another device can obtain a much better signal (lower number) in the same location. If you are seeing that, then the phone is a problem.

Otherwise bad signal is bad signal. You need something to compare this to.

Yep.

I put my X and XS Max near each other and the X was -60 whereas the XS Max was -110. Certainly appears like hardware to me (in my case).

You have to be kidding me? There is that much of a difference? Not calling you a liar by any means, there are a few things to weed out before saying bad hardware but .. if that's true and there is nothing else causing that quality drop then good lord.

I'm hoping mine that arrives tomorrow is better than this because that's unusable.

I understand. My wife has a Sammy Phone. I tried that # up above, it doesn't work on hers. Do you know the # that'll work on her phone?

Dial *3001#12345#* A Main Menu will appear. Select LTE. Select Serving Cell Meas. The number after rsrq0 is your true signal strength.

props to @Glideslope

That was indeed my case, and could replicate huge differences between the X and XSMax each time.

I’m no expert (not even close), but those results sound like a hardware issue from what I have read.

Maybe Apple can push a fix, but according to a buddy of mine who is a network engineer, he said the fix is to push more juice at the antenna and will likely cause battery drain.

Was hoping to see something from Apple on this, but probably just going to send it back and not gamble. Shame, as the camera is slick.

Hope you have better luck.

I can’t get the test to run presently. Wonder if VZ or Apple pulled it?

Yeah if mine tests out like this it will go back. I am not willing to deal with bad reception while a "fix" is figured out.

I am still giddy that i have my Max phone. Love the huge screen. And i still have my old X phone. When i compare the 2. I am amazed that I used that X phone for a year. It seems like a toy compared to the Max to me now.

Field test mode is horrible and buggy, it does stuff like that pretty frequently. Reboot the device and see what it gives you.

I’m happy, but I can’t make up my mind about the color. I got gold, but sometimes I feel like it looks more rose gold than gold. My wife likes it and she says she doesn’t think it looks rose gold, but I can’t decide.
Trust your wife. Women have higher more accurate color perception due to more cone cells in their retinas. There is a reason the automakers have women as paint color engineers. Women naturally can discern more subtle color hues than men.

I am having cell issues with my new Max. Calls cutting in and out bad where they didn’t used to on my X.

Turn off true tone and you'll be happy if you don't like the yellow. That's what I did and it's a huge improvement.

What is the point of true tone? is it meant to be easier on the eyes or something.... It makes my display look absolutely horrible, I know its a matter of personal opinion but I just don't get how people love this feature so much. I can't stand the way it makes my phone look.

Love it. Got my space gray XS today as an upgrade from my silver 8 Plus. I absolutely love it. I love how the screen is about as big yet it’s so much more manageable and lighter. I picked two Apple leather cases, a product red and a black one. Love it all! The iPhone upgrade program worked flawlessly again!

Good color combo on the cases. I would recommend a change in avatar while you're at it.

I'll be honest, I thought I was going to be upgrading to a S4 aluminum watch and that was gonna be my only purchase from the Fall event. But then I stumbled upon someone selling a couple brand new iPhone XS Maxes the day after launch and ended up scoring a space gray 64gb max with applecare plus coverage for $1000. Stunned. I don't know if he just didn't get the memo with how scalping is supposed to work or if he bought them with a bunch of giftcards and wanted cash or what but I ended up with a BNIB Xs Max with valid purchase date and active AppleCare Plus coverage for a little under $400 off retail had I ordered through Apple (and didn't have to wait for shipping!). Looks like I need to find a buyer for my X and fully re-adjust to the big phone lifestyle. That said, I couldn't be happier with this beautiful piece of technology and have no regrets moving back up to the bigger footprint!

Couldn’t be happier larger display and outstanding battery life.

Not having any reception or WiFi issues.
Must be a unicorn feature on the 512gb Max
I’m not on the 256GB version either :)

Hope it gets sorted for those having issues though

I think it might be a problem with have to do with American iPhones and American networks to be honest.

How are you enjoying iPhone X’s max and the Apple Watch s4 combo

I’m loving mine.

Not really much you can do besides go somewhere with better signal. It's not necessarily a phone problem. Compare with another iphone in the home. If they both score low, then its just where you are located.

X -66.50

XS Max -105

Seems a little odd.
